Radioactive waste transport package was developed to transport eight drums of low and intermediate level waste(LILW) in accordance with the IAEA and domestic related regulations. The package is classified with industrial package IP-2. IP-2 package is required to undergo a free drop test and a stacking test. After free drop and stacking tests, it should prevent the loss or dispersal of radioactive contents, and loss of shielding integrity which would result in more than 20 % increase in the radiation level at any external surface of the package. The objective of this study is to establish the safety test method and procedure for stacking test and to prove the structural integrities of the IP-2 package. Stacking test and analysis were performed with a compressive load equal to five times the weight of the package for a period of 24 hours using a full scale model. Strains and displacements were measured at the corner fitting of the package during the stacking test. The measured strains and displacements were compared with the analysis results, and there were good agreements. It is very difficult to measure the deflection at the container base, so the maximum deflection of the container base was calculated by the analysis method. The maximum displacement at the corner fitting and deflection at the container base were less than their allowable values. Dimensions of the test model, thickness of shielding material and bolt torque were measured before and after the stacking test. Throughout the stacking test, it was found that there were no loss or dispersal of radioactive contents and no loss of shielding integrity. Thus, the package was shown to comply with the requirements to maintain structural integrity under the stacking condition.

In this study, the lamination performance and strength characteristics of cement-based composite materials according to the laminated specimens manufacturing method were analyzed. As a result of evaluating the buildability according to the layer height, the highest dimensional stability was shown when the layer height was 10 mm in all parts. The mold casting specimen and the printing-Z specimen showed the same compressive strength performance at the age of 28 days. On the other hand, the compressive strength at 28 day of printing-X specimen was the lowest at 71.72 MPa, and 8% lower than that of the mold casting specimen and the printing-Z specimen. The split tensile strength of the laminated specimen may show similar performance to that of the mold casting specimen, but the strength performance may decrease by more than 10% depending on the direction of the layer and the number of layers in the specimen. As a result of the interface analysis of the laminated specimen through X-ray CT analysis, it was confirmed that pores of a certain size were distributed along the interface of the layer.
This paper presents a study on the low velocity impact response of the woven fabric laminates for the hybrid composite bodyshell of a tilting railway vehicle. In this study, the low velocity impact tests for the three laminates with size of $100mm\times100mm$ were conducted at three impact energy levels of 2.4J, 2.7J and 4.2J. Based on the tests, the impact force, the absorbed energy and the damaged area were investigated according to the different energy levels and the stacking sequences. The damage area was evaluated by the visual inspection and the C-scan device. The test results show that the absorbed energy of [fill]8 laminate is highest whereas (fill2/warp2)s is lowest. The [fill]8 laminate has the largest damage area because of the highest impact energy absorption.
This paper describes the evaluations of tension-compression fatigue characteristics and life for glass fiber/epoxy laminate composite applied to railway bogie to reduce weight. Test samples of tension-compression fatigue were composed of glass fiber/epoxy 4-harness woven laminate composites with different stacking sequence of warp-direction, fill-direction and ${\pm}45^{\circ}$-direction. The tension-compression fatigue test was conducted with stress ratio (R) of -1 and frequency of 5Hz. Goodman diagram were used to evaluate the fatigue characteristics and life of glass fiber/epoxy 4-harness satin woven laminate composite. Anti-buckling jig was designed to prevent buckling of specimen under compression load. The test results showed that the fatigue characteristics of glass fiber/epoxy 4-harness satin woven laminate composite with stacking sequence of warp-direction had a good performance in comparison with that of SM490 used to conventional metal railway bogie.

In this study, the rheological characteristics and of 3D printing composite materials and the compressive strength characteristics according to the lamination patterns were evaluated. As a result of rheology test, rapid material change was observed after 60 minutes of extrusion, yielding stress 1.4 times higher than immediately after mixing, and plastic viscosity was 14.94-25.62% lower. The compressive strength of the specimens manufactured in the mold and the laminated specimens were compared, and the lamination pattern of the laminated specimens were 0°, 45°, and 90° as variables. The compressive strength of the mold casting specimen and the laminated specimen from 1 to 28 days of age showed similar performance regardless of the lamination pattern. In particular, at the age of 28 days, the modulus of elasticity, maximum compressive strength, and strain at maximum stress of all specimens were almost the same. In order to analyze the interface of the laminated specimens, X-ray CT analysis of the specimen whose compressive strength were measured was performed. Through CT analysis, it was confirmed that cracks did not occur at the lamination interface, which can be judged that the interface in the laminated specimen behaved in an integrated manner.
The characteristic length method used to determine a laminate's strength generally requires the test for un-notched and notched laminates and finite element analysis together. In this paper, the methods used to predict the stress distribution and tensile characteristic length of open-hole laminates using the stress concentration factor and equivalent material properties are proposed. These methods do not require data on the failure load of open-hole laminates or finite element analysis. Once the stress and characteristic length have been determined, the failure load of the open-hole laminate can be calculated. The proposed method considers the effect of the material properties as a parameter and therefore can be applied to a variety of materials. The stress distribution is verified by comparing with a finite element analysis and test results. The predicted failure load shows a maximum deviation of 8% from the test results.
In this study, tests and finite element analyses were performed regarding compression after impact strength for laminated composite structures of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced plastic widely used in structural materials. Two lay-up sequences of composite laminates were selected as test specimens and four impact energy conditions were applied respectively. Impact and compressive strength tests were conducted in accordance with ASTM standards. Impact damages in test specimens were analyzed by using non-destructive inspection method of C-Scan, and compression after impact strengths were calculated with compressive test results. Progressive failure analysis method that can progressively simulate damages and fractures of fiber/matrix/lamina/laminate level was used for impact and compressive strength analyses. All analysis results including contact force, deflection, impact damages, compressive strengths, etc. were compared to test results, and the validity of analysis method was verified.
In this paper, a system of falling weight impact tester was built up to evaluate the impact energy absorbing characteristics and impact strength of CFRP laminate plates in consideration of stress wave propagation theory. Delamination area of impacted specimens for the different ply orientation was measured with ultrasonic C-scanner to find correlation between impact energy and delamination area. Absorbed energy of quasi-isotropic specimen having four interfaces was higher than that of orthotropic laminates with two interfaces. The more interfaces, the more absorbed energy. Hybrid specimen containing GFRP layer was higher than that of normal specimens.

CFRP is the composite material manufactured by the hybrid resin on the basis of carbon fiber. As this material has the high specific strength and the light weight, it has been widely used at various fields. Particularly, the unidirectional carbon fiber can be applied with the layer angle. CFRP made with layer angle has the strength higher than with no layer angle. In this paper, the property of crack growth due to each layer angle was investigated on the crack propagation and fracture behavior of the CFRP compact tension specimen due to the change of layer angle. The value of maximum stress is shown to be decreased and the crack propagation is slowed down as the layer angle is increased. But the limit according to the layer angle is shown as the stress is increased again from the base point of the layer angle of $60^{\circ}$. This study result is thought to be utilized with the data which verify the probability of fatigue fracture when the defect inside the structure at using CFRP of mechanical structure happens.
