  • Performance and realization of finite impulse response (FIR) digital filters that use an adaptive delta modulator (ADM) as an analog/digital converter have been studied. This filter requires no multiplication and offers many advantages over conventional PCM filters in low power consumption, small size, and cost effectiveness. Analytical formulas have been derived for the expected mean-squared errors and also for the word length necessary to achieve the desired performance. Computer simultation has been done to optimize the parameter values and to verify the results of performance analysis. In addition, design of FIR ADM digital filters for processing single and multi-channel signals has been considered.

  • It has been known that the amplifiers for high power signal in satellite communication channels suffer from nonlinear distortions, which reduce the performance of the communication channel significantly. In order to compensate the nonlinear distortion, a new data predistortion method with the LMS algorithm is proposed in this paper, Whereas the previous approach handles this problem by assigning corresponding predistorter to each symbol for the case of 16-QAM, the proposed approach uses the same memory for the symbols, which have identical amplitudes, and predistors the input of high-power amplifiers by the amplitude and phase differences, resulting in better adaptive data predistorter with small number of digital memory (3 predistorters) and fast convergence rate. Superiority of the proposed approach in the paper is demonstrated by comparing it with the previous approach.

Conventionally, polished surface of the workpiece are recognized, chamfer ridge, machining processes such as deburring, and it is most difficult to automate because of its complexity, has been largely dependent on the human. To aim to build automatic vacuum system robotic force control was gripping the grinding tool, the present study we examined the adaptability to the polishing process to understand the characteristics of the control system feedback signal obtained from the force sensor mainly. Furthermore, as a field, which holds the key to the commercialization, I went ahead with the application to robotic sweeping machine. As a result, the final sweeping utilizing a robot machine to obtain a very good grinded surface was revealed.

  • Presented in this paper are a new complex-umber filter architecture, which is suitable for an efficient implementation of baseband signal processing of digital communication systems, and a chip-set design of adaptive decision-feedback equalizer (ADFE) employing the proposed structure. The basic concept behind the approach proposed in this paper is to apply redundant binary (RB) arithmetic instead of conventional 2’s complement arithmetic in order to achieve an efficient realization of complex-number multiplication and accumulation. With the proposed way, an N-tap complex-number filter can be realized using 2N RB multipliers and 2N-2 RB adders, and each filter tap has its critical delay of $T_{m.RB}+T_{a.RB}$ (where $T_{m.RB}, T_{a.RB}$are delays of a RB multiplier and a RB adder, respectively), making the filter structure simple, as well as resulting in enhanced speed by means of reduced arithmetic operations. To demonstrate the proposed idea, a prototype ADFE chip-set, FFEM (Feed-Forward Equalizer Module) and DFEM (Decision-Feedback Equalizer Module) that can be cascaded to implement longer filter taps, has been designed. Each module is composed of two complex-number filter taps with their LMS coefficient update circuits, and contains about 26,000 gates. The chip-set was modeled and verified using COSSAP and VHDL, and synthesized using 0.8- μm SOG (Sea-Of-Gate) cell library.

  • Current techniques for road-traffic monitoring rely on sensors which have limited capabilities, are costly and disruptive to install. The use of video cameras coupled with computer vision techniques offers an attractive alternative to current sensors. Video based traffic monitoring systems are now being considered key points of advanced traffic management systems. In this paper, we propose the new method which extract the traffic information using video camera. The proposed method uses an adaptive updating scheme for background in order to reduce the false alarm rate due to various noises in images. also, the proposed extraction method of traffic information calculates the traffic volume ratio of vehicles passing through predefined detection area, which is defined by the length of profile occupied by cars over that of overall detection area. Then the ratio is used to define 8 different states of traffic and to interpret the state of vehicle flows. The proposed method is verified by an experiment using CCTV traffic data from urban area.

  • Blocking and ringing artifacts continue to be the most serious defects that occur in images and video streams compressed to low bit rates using block-based discrete cosine transform(DCT) compression standards. These artifacts contain the high frequency components near the block and the edge boundaries. Usually the lowpass filter can remove them. However, simple lowpass filter results into blur by removing important information such as edges at the same time. To overcome these problems, we propose a novel postfiltering algorithm that calculate the weight value based on the intensity similarity in the neighboring pixels and multiply this weight to the Gaussian lowpass filter coefficient. Experimental results show that the proposed technique provides satisfactory performance in both objective and subjective image quality.

  • Recently, due to the influence of the 4th industrial revolution and the development of communication media, various digital video equipment are being used in industrial fields. Image data is easily damaged by noise in the process of acquiring and transmitting and receiving from the camera and sensor, and since the damaged image has a great effect on the processing of the system, noise removal is essential. In this paper, a weight filter algorithm using a weight graph is proposed to restoration images damaged by high-density impulse noise. The proposed algorithm obtains a weight graph using pixel values inside the filtering mask of the image, and restores the image by applying the final weight to the filtering mask. Simulation was conducted to analyze the noise removal performance of the proposed algorithm, and the magnified image and PSNR were used to compare with the existing method. The resulting image of the proposed algorithm showed excellent performance by removing high-density impulse noise.

  • Activation of macrophages plays an important role in the host-immune system. In this study, we investigated the functional roles and related signaling mechanism of hot-water extracts of bee pollen (BPW) in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Since BPW did not exert cytotoxicity at concentrations ranging from 62.5 to $250{\mu}g/mL$ in macrophage cells, a concentration of $250{\mu}g/mL$ was used as the maximum dose of BPW throughout subsequent experiments. BPW increased inducible nitric oxide synthase-mediated nitric oxide production in a concentration-dependent manner. Additionally, BPW was found to induce macrophage activation by augmenting the expression of cell surface molecules (cluster of differentiation; CD80/86, and major histocompatibility complex; MHC class I/II) and production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$, interleukin-6, and $IL-1{\beta}$) through mitogen-activated protein kinase and nuclear $factor-{\kappa}B$ signaling pathways in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Taken together, our results indicate that BPW could potentially be used as an immunomodulatory agent.
