This paper presents a VHF/UHF-band variable gain low noise amplifier for multi-standard mobile TV tuners. A proposed VHF-band variable gain amplifier is composed of a resistive shunt-feedback low noise amplifier to remove external matching components, a single-to-differential amplifier with input PMOS transcoductors to improve low frequency noise performance, a variable shunt-feedback resistor and an attenuator to control variable gain range. A proposed UHF-band variable gain amplifier consists of a narrowband low noise amplifier with capacitive tuning to improve noise performance and interference rejection performance, a single-to-differential with gm gain control and an attenuator to adjust gain control range. The proposed VHF-band and UHF-band variable gain amplifier were designed in a $0.18{\mu}m$ RF CMOS technology and draws 22 mA and 17 mA from a 1.8 V supply voltage, respectively. The designed VHF-band and UHF-band variable gain amplifier show a voltage gain of 27 dB and 27 dB, a noise figure of 1.6-1.7 dB and 1.3-1.7 dB, OIP3 of 13.5 dBm and 16 dBm, respectively.
In this paper, a new wideband tunable analog element for multimedia system is proposed. The proposed active element is composed of the complementary cascode circuit which can extend transconductance of an element. Therefore, the unity gain frequency which is determined transconductance is increased than that of the conventional element. And then these results are verified by the 0.22$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS n-well parameter simulation. As a result, the gam and the unity gam frequency are 42dB and 200MHz on 2V supply voltage. And power dissipation of the designed element is 0.32mW.

A voltage measuring system specified for the voltage fluctuation of the Pusan-Hamada submarine cable is developed by adding circuits of differential amplification and analog-to-digital conversion to a microprocessor-based data logger with a data modem. This system is charaterized by its small size. no power failure. fully unmanned operation. and precise instrumental drift correction. In addition to the cable voltage and current it measures an ambient temperature and a mercury cell voltage in order to calibrate temperature effect and check its long-term stability. The data acquired by this system show that the voltage signal. comprising fast random noises with a constant width of about 0.2V. fluctuates within a range of about 1V and the fluctuation frequency is similar to that of tidal motion. The source voltage of power feeding equipment (PFE) for the cable system seems to be affected when the room temperature changes rapidly.

This paper has proposed a 920 MHz RF front-end for IEEE 802.15.4g SUN (Smart Utility Network) systems. The proposed 920 MHz RF front-end consists of a driver amplifier, a low noise amplifier, and a RF switch. In the TX mode, the driver amplifier has been designed as a single-ended topology to remove a transformer which causes a loss of the output power from the driver amplifier. In addition, a RF switch is located in the RX path not the TX path. In the RX mode, the proposed low noise amplifier can provide a differential output signal when a single-ended input signal has been applied to. A LC resonant circuit is used as both a load of the drive amplifier and a input matching circuit of the low noise amplifier, reducing the chip area. The proposed 920 MHz RF Front-end has been implemented in a 0.18-um CMOS technology. It consumes 3.6 mA in driver amplifier and 3.1 mA in low noise amplifier from a 1.8 V supply voltage.

This paper presents a bandpass filter using a current differencing transconductance amplifier (CDTA)s for application to low-voltage and low-power analog signal processing systems. The presented filter employs grounding and floating active inductors, which are composed of two or three CDTAs, and is capable of realizing all the standard functions of the filter without requiring any component matching criteria or extra active components. The HSPICE simulation result of the designed active bandpass filter showed that it had a 10MHz center frequency with -2.5dB attenuated bandwidth from 9.5 MHz to 10.5 MHz, and -50dB from 8 MHz to 17 MHz.

In this paper, electrocardiogram (ECG) analog front end with supply voltage of 0.5V has been designed and verified by measurements of fabricated chip. ECG is composed of instrument amplifier, 6th order gm-C low pass filter and variable gain amplifier. The instrument amplifier is designed to have gain of 34.8dB and the 6th order gm-C low pass filter is designed to obtain the cutoff frequency of 400Hz. The operational transconductance amplifier of the low pass filter utilizes body-driven differential input stage for low voltage operation. The variable gain amplifier is designed to have gain of 6.1~26.4dB. The electrocardiogram analog front end are fabricated in TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process with chip size of $858{\mu}m{\times}580{\mu}m$. Measurements of the fabricated chip is done not to saturate the gain of ECG by changing the external resistor and measured gain of 28.7dB and cutoff frequency of 0.5 - 630Hz are obtained using the supply voltage of 0.5V.

This work proposes a 14b 150MS/s 0.13um CMOS ADC for SDR systems requiring simultaneously high resolution, low power, and small size at high speed. The proposed ADC employs a calibration-free four-step pipeline architecture optimizing the scaling factor for the input trans-conductance of amplifiers and the sampling capacitance in each stage to minimize thermal noise effects and power consumption at the target resolution and sampling rate. A signal- insensitive 3-D fully symmetric layout achieves a 14b level resolution by reducing a capacitor mismatch of three MDACs. The proposed supply- and temperature- insensitive current and voltage references with on-chip RC filters minimizing the effect of switching noise are implemented with off-chip C filters. The prototype ADC in a 0.13um 1P8M CMOS technology demonstrates a measured DNL and INL within 0.81LSB and 2.83LSB, at 14b, respectively. The ADC shows a maximum SNDR of 64dB and 61dB and a maximum SFDR of 71dB and 70dB at 120MS/s and 150MS/s, respectively. The ADC with an active die area of $2.0mm^2$ consumes 140mW at 150MS/s and 1.2V.

In this paper, a low-power direct-conversion transmitter based on current-mode operation, which satisfies the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, is proposed and implemented in a $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The proposed transmitter consists of DACs, LPFs, variable gain I/Q up-conversion mixer, a divide-by-two circuit with LO buffer, and a drive amplifier. By combining DAC, LPF, and variable gain I/Q up-conversion mixer with a simple current mirror configuration, the transmitter's power consumption is reduced and its linearity is improved. The drive amplifier is a cascode amplifier with gain controls and the 2.4GHz I/Q differential LO signals are generated by a divide-by-two current-mode-logic (CML) circuit with an external 4.8GHz input signal. The implemented transmitter has 30dB of gain control range, 0dBm of maximum transmit output power, 33dBc of local oscillator leakage, and 40dBc of the transmit third harmonic component. The transmitter dissipates 10.2mW from a 1.2V supply and the die area of the transmitter is $1.76mm{\times}1.26mm$.

This work proposes a 10b 100 MS/s $1.4\;mm^2$ CMOS ADC for low-power multimedia applications. The proposed two-step pipeline ADC minimizes chip area and power dissipation at the target resolution and sampling rate. The wide-band SHA employs a gate-bootstrapping circuit to handle both single-ended and differential inputs with 1.2 Vp-p at 10b accuracy while the second-stage flash ADC employs open-loop offset sampling techniques to achieve 6b resolution. A 3-D fully symmetrical layout reduces the capacitor and device mismatch of the first-stage MDAC. The low-noise references are integrated on chip with optional off-chip voltage references. The prototype 10b ADC implemented in a 0.18 um CMOS shows the maximum measured DNL and INL of 0.59 LSB and 0.77 LSB, respectively. The ADC demonstrates the SNDR of 54 dB, the SFDR of 62 dB, and the power dissipation of 56 mW at 100 MS/s.

This paper proposes a low-power 8-bit asynchronous SAR ADC with a sampling rate of 1 MS/s for sensor node applications. The ADC uses bootstrapped switches to improve linearity and applies a VCM-based CDAC switching technique to reduce the power consumption and area of the DAC. Conventional synchronous SAR ADCs that operate in synchronization with an external clock suffer from high power consumption due to the use of a clock faster than the sampling rate, which can be overcome by using an asynchronous SAR ADC structure that handles internal comparisons in an asynchronous manner. In addition, the SAR logic is designed using dynamic logic circuits to reduce the large digital power consumption that occurs in low resolution ADC designs. The proposed ADC was simulated in a 180-nm CMOS process, and at a 1.8 V supply voltage and a sampling rate of 1 MS/s, it consumed 46.06 𝜇W of power, achieved an SNDR of 49.76 dB and an ENOB of 7.9738 bits, and obtained a FoM of 183.2 fJ/conv-step. The simulated DNL and INL are +0.186/-0.157 LSB and +0.111/-0.169 LSB.
