  • This study was carried out to investigate the combined effect of cold storage with irradiation on rooting of chrysanthemum cuttings. Each cutting was six cm in length with three real leaves. A set of Groups of the cuttings was irradiated with 0 to 70Gy of gamma-ray after four weeks of cold storage, while another groups were irradiated with the same doses and then stored at $4^\circ{C}$ for four weeks. Root and shoot growth were observed at 15 and 20 days after planting of the cuttings in a Plug tray. Accelerated root formation was observed in 30 Gy irradiated group, and root growth was also enhanced in 20 and 30 Gy irradiated groups 20 days after planting. In case of irradiation combined with pre-treatment of cold storage, survival rate of cuttings was the highest (80%) in 30 Gy irradiated group. The groups treated with irradiation first before cold storage were apparently better in root formation, among which 50 Gy irradiated group showed the highest rate of root growth.

  • Studies on the fabrication of UAV by using 3D printer have been actively carried out. However, research on structural load characteristics in low temperature environment is insufficient. In this study, a composite sandwich structure with ordinary orbs structure was proposed, and the load characteristics for temperature condition changes were analyzed. The ordinary orbs and honeycomb structures were fabricated by using a FDM type 3D printer. The bending load test was carried out at room temperature and low temperature condition. The low temperature condition was classified into four cases. Bending load tests were performed in a low temperature chamber to maintain the required temperature conditions. As a result of the test, it was confirmed that the proposed ordinary orbs structure had better load characteristics at low temperatures than the existing honeycomb structure.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of chemical application and amout of soil moisture on low temperature stress of cucumber seedling under the greenhouse conditions. When chilling treatments ($2^{\circ}C$) were begun at 07:00AM, survival rates of seedlings of two conditions; -0.3 bar and -5.5 bar were 28.3% and 83.3% respectively. But when chilling treatments were begun at 6:00PM - even the soil moisture condition was -0.3 bar - the survival rate was above the 87%. When reducing the soil moisture from -0.3 bar to -9.0 bar, ABA content in leaf was inc.eased by 6.5fo1d. Spraying of abscisc acid (ABA) before or after the chilling significantly increased the survival rates of seedlings, decreased the amounts of leaking electrolytes and prevented the yield reductions. ABA application on the soil before the chilling appeared to be more effective than the application after the chilling with foliar spray. Spraying of ABA ($10^{-5}M$), urea (0.2%) or $KH_2PO_4$ was effective in counteracting the low temperature, which causes growth deterioration and yield reduction in cucumbers.

  • Cu-Zn-Al catalysts were prepared via co-precipitation method for low-temperature water-gas shift (LT-WGS) reaction under practical reaction condition. Aging time was systematically changed to find optimum point for LT-WGS under practical condition. The Cu-Zn-Al catalyst aged for 72 hours showed the highest CO conversion within low-temperature range as well as very stable catalytic activity for 200 hours despite the practical reaction condition.

  • This paper reports an experimental study on the damage mechanism and resistance of Type I portland cement mortar and paste samples exposed to 5% sodium sulfate solution with different solution temperatures; namely, $4^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$. The resistance of mortar samples was evaluated using expansion, compressive strength and flexural strength measurements. Some microstructural observations such as x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry and scanning electron microscopy were also introduced to elucidate reactants formed by sulfate attack, especially in a low temperature condition. From the results, it was found that the degree of damage in the mortar samples was significantly associated with the temperature of sulfate solution. Low temperature of the sulfate solution led to the formation of thaumasite in mortar and paste samples, and subsequently a poor resistance to sulfate attack. Thus, it is noted that when concrete structures are exposed to sulfate media in the condition of a cold region or whether, special care should be taken.

  • In this article, we will summarize recent advances in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) during the last decade. Leading STM groups have finished or are constructing UHV milli-Kelvin high magnetic field STM capable of a few tens of milli-Kelvin and ~ 10 tesla. Applications with UHV sub-Kelvin high magnetic STM have been increased since mid-2000's. Active research using UHV low temperature tuning fork atomic force microscopes and UHV photon low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopes will be introduced. Considering these advances of UHV low-temperature STM we will discuss next trend in STM in the near future.
