The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of people with disabilities using Personal Assistance Services (PAS) in Korea. A qualitative study based on face-to-face interviews with people with mobility disabilities was conducted. Nine consumers with disabilities participated in the study. Study participants pointed out five changes in their life after using PAS: 1) increase in daily life activities, 2) increased perceived control, 3)increased psychological self-reliance, 4) growth of relationships with others in terms of both degree and frequency, and 5) more equalized relationships with family, Finally, article makes recommendations regarding the future provision of PAS.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the contributions and limitations of an independent internet newspaper dedicated to disability affairs. The materials analysed in this study were articles on personal assistance service conflicts between users and assistants by Ablenews. This study used inductive content analysis, responsibility frame analysis, and disability paradigm analysis. First, in general Ablenews appeared to report personal assistance service conflicts as they were. Second, the results showed that Ablenews tended to attribute the causes and solutions of the conflicts to the users and assistants. Third, nearly half of content units of Ablenews articles conveyed the perspective of rehabilitation paradigm though personal assisstanc services are closely related to independent living model. Based on the results this study suggested that Ablenews needs to improve specialty in reports on disability affairs using editorial staff, professional reporters, guests reporters with specialties.

This study is designed to analyze the effect of the Job satisfaction which is composed of job itself, work place condition, reward, workload, social awareness by personal assistant for the Disabled on the service quality and to perceive the importance of job satisfaction of person assistance for the disabled, finding ways of enhancing job satisfaction in social welfare practice. For this purpose, total 218 personal assistants for the disabled'data were collected and analyzed. The results were personal assistant for the disabled'trait of sociology of population and general trait, job satisfaction, service quality, the correlation of job satisfaction and service quality, and the effect of job satisfaction on service quality. The results showed that personal assistant'job itself, reward, had a positive impact on service quality. On the basis of these results, significant practical implication are as follows; Firstly, there needs to be a expansion of education program for the job satisfaction of personal assistant for the disabled. Secondly, in relation to the reward of personal assistant for the disabled, the improvement of wage structure is requested.

This study provided personnel and recruitment information related to job offer and job hunting, and proposed a non-face-to-face platform that can facilitate matching of one-time services as well as periodic services. The existing recruitment and job search method for personal assistant of the disabled is a one-way matching method in which a person in charge of the service providing centers assigns an activity assistant belonging to the institution when a consumer requests an personal assistant service, so the choice of job seekers is very weak. The job matching platform of the activity assistant for the disabled can be logged in separately by dividing users and separating them into the interface of the disabled or the disabled family members (job seekers) and activity assistants for the disabled (job seekers). Search for job offer and job seekers that meet their respective conditions, and real-time bidirectional decision-making through the chat function, and when the activity assistance service is completed, recruiters and job seekers can write service reviews and evaluations from their own point of view. The real-time interactive decision-making matching platform will also help minimize blind spots where it is difficult to provide services when short-term or one-time assistance is needed.

최근 장애인활동지원서비스를 이용하는 이용인의 수요가 증가하면서 서비스의 질적인 측면이 요구되고 있는 가운데 이용인을 보조하고 있는 활동보조인의 근로조건에 관한 연구와 함께 이 근로조건이 서비스 질과의 연관성이 있는가에 대한 연구가 이루어져야 할 실정이다. 하지만, 이러한 현실임에도 불구하고 이에 대한 활발한 연구가 미비한 실정이기에, 기존 연구에서는 직무만족이라는 개념에 근무조건이 하나의 요소로 적용을 시켰으나 구체적으로 근로조건이 서비스 질에 차이가 있는지에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 이러한 맥락에서 장애인활동보조인의 근로조건이 이 서비스의 질에 연관성이 있는지를 알아보고, 어떠한 근로 조건이 서비스의 질을 높이는지 선행연구들을 통하여 추론하여 장애인활동보조인의 원활한 활동과 함께 보다 더 성장된 질적인 서비스가 진행 될 수 있도록 제언하고자 한다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze importance and satisfaction of management and curriculum of personal assistants education. This study analyzed exploratory factor of importance and satisfaction questions in personal assistants education, correlation and a difference of importance and satisfaction according to factors, and investigates improvement plan through IPA analysis. The targets of this research are 231 personal assistants participating in personal assistants education managed in South Gyeonggi-do. As a result, it is shown that the sub-factors of personal assistants education mostly have a correlation, and two factors such as 'education management' and 'curriculum' are investigated. As a result of IPA analysis, it is drawn that 'education period' needs intensive improvement in education management, and 'practice class' and 'theory class' need intensive improvement in curriculum. This research is significant because the importance and satisfaction of personal assistants education are investigated and the improvement plan is provided.

This study aims to examine the effects of personal assistance services(physical activity support, homemaking activity support, social activity support) on caregiver burden and determine whether family resilience(family belief system, family cohesion, interaction) has a moderating effect between personal assistance services and caregiver burden, thereby presenting a reference data which can be used to seek a practical measure for handicapped welfare. This study was conducted on 200 primary caregivers with disabled family members of rank 1 or 2 in east, west, south, and north Gyeonggi-do using personal assistance services. Data was collected in 2013 from April 1 to May 15, and was analyzed using the SPSS 19.0 statistics program in which a moderated multiple regression analysis based on exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis was performed. The primary conclusions of this study were as follows; First, the use of physical activity support was showed to have a positive effect in reducing family burden related to disabled care. Second, personal assistance services exhibit significant moderator effects related to family burden in family belief systems and family cohesion.

This study compared the utility of walking aids, and activities of daily life depending on the ability of people with mobility disabilities to use walking aids. Data were extracted from the Korea Welfare Panel Study in 2014. Data of 435,947 individuals were analyzed using chi-square and t-tests. The findings from this study showed that disabled persons who cannot use walking aids independently were more likely to have a severe disability level and a lower level of daily activities than the independent group. The level of social participation and leisure activities were also significantly lower in the dependent than the independent group. Therefore, walking aids should be tailored for individuals depending on their level of independence for using walking aids.

As Korea's per capita income increases, participation in various leisure activities to improve the quality of life of the disabled is encouraged. However, in order to participate in leisure activities, movement to the place where the leisure activities are performed must be preceded, so interest in means of transportation for leisure activities of the disabled is increasing. Since manual and electric wheelchairs have their respective disadvantages as means of transportation for leisure activities, interest in power assisting devices for wheelchairs combining the functions of electric wheelchairs with manual wheelchairs is increasing. In this study, the FDA approval process of wheelchair power-assistance products was investigated, and the characteristics of side-attached, front-attached, downward-attached, and rear-attached types of power assist devices for wheelchairs wheelchair in countries around the world were identified. These information will be of great use in helping the disabled and their assistants in Korea to choose the optimal product according to the patient's condition. More usability tests and clinical case studies are needed so that people with disabilities can choose a power assist device suitable for them.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the outcomes and the influential factors that predict outcomes of Personal Assistance Services (PAS). A phone survey was conducted with 201 people with severe disabilities who used PAS services through 10 Centers for Independent Living. Participants reported an increase in subjective health perceptions associated with use of PAS. Participants also reported increased psychological self-reliance as a consequence of using PAS, and high satisfaction with PAS in general. Additionally, the participants reported increased active participation in their communities, increased employment, and high self-confidence in getting or maintaining jobs as outcomes of PAS. Among influential factors predicting the outcomes of PAS, high monthly income and more mean hours of for PAS were positive predictors of psychological self-reliance. Younger age, lower income, and longer duration of service were positively associated with community participation. Longer duration of disability and service use were positive predictors of employment status. Less severe disability and high monthly income were associated with higher self-confidence related to getting or maintaining a job. The results highlight the importance of ensuring the availability of PAS to all Koreans with disabilities who are interested in these services.
