A Research on Value Structure on Use Behavior about Social Service of the Mentally ill elderly (노인정신장애인의 사회복지서비스 이용행위의 가치 사슬 구조 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to predict use behavior for social welfare service of the elderly mentally ill through means-end chain theory. Means-end chain theory explains cognitive structure related to the consumer's preference to various products and services. Although the elderly mentally ill begin to emerge as new client population, social welfare services for them do not seem to be enough in the community. Based on this awareness, this study tried to analyse service use behavior of the elderly mentally ill through means-end chain theory to develop new social welfare services. The data were collected from 15 elderly mentally ill and found 5 attributes, 10 consequences, and 11 values. Hierarchical Value Map was composed of 'disease management, rehabilitation preparation, hobby leisure ${\rightarrow}$ health maintenance, energy of life ${\rightarrow}$ social reintegration, life satisfaction, harmonious family life'. To activate the social service for the elderly mentally ill, it should be developed various programs such as disease management, rehabilitation preparation, hobby leisure for the elderly mentally ill. The ultimate value of these programs will be improve life satisfaction and integrated into society.

THE TREATMENT RESULTS OF A DAY TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS (발달 장애 아동에게 시행된 주간 치료실 프로그램의 치료 결과에 대한 고찰)

  • Objective:This was conduced to evaluate the effect of early intervention to promote the development of children with developmental disorders. Methods:49 children(31 in PDD group and 18 in DLD group) participated in a one year day treatment program conduced from 1996 to 1999. They were performed PEP, CARS, and SMS. They were grouped by diagnosis, comorbidity, chronological age and CARS score at the beginning of the program and the treatment effect was compared. Results:The children who participated in the day treatment program showed significant increase in their PEP, SMS score, and decrease trend in their CARS score. When children were grouped by diagnosis, comorbidity, chronological age, and severity in CARS score we did not find out significant difference between groups. Conclusion:Our data suggest that the day treatment program which emphasis on development is effective in treating children with developmental disorders.

Development of Peer-Leadership Program focused on Recovery of People with Mental Illness (정신장애인 회복에 초점을 둔 당사자 리더십 프로그램 개발 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and explore the effectiveness of a peer-leadership program on the recovery of people with mental illness. To develop the program, a literature review and an analysis of developed programs were performed.Brown's recovery framework was applied, including an understanding of mental illness, self-leadership, empowerment, and self-directed action plans. A program was developed (6 sessions over 3 days) including peer-led activities, disability awareness and perception, and recovery action plans. The program consisted of education, understanding, planning, and implementation. Its focus was on recovery-oriented activities for empowering people with mental illness. Twenty people with mental illness and using mental rehabilitation centers participated in the program. Four scales (i.e., stigma, empowerment, leadership, and disability awareness) were used for the pre-post analysis. The study results showed statistically significant differences in the participants' levels of stigma (p< .05), empowerment (p < .05), leadership (p< .01), and disability awareness (p< .05) after completing the program. These findings suggest that the peer-leadership program is a recovery program that includes increased understanding of mental illness, empowerment, and leadership capability. Discussions and suggestions were provided for a future study based on the results.

Study on the Development and Effectiveness of Empowerment Program for the Persons with Disabilities Caused by Industrial Accidents (산재장애인을 위한 임파워먼트 프로그램 개발 및 효과)

  • This study is about the development and effectiveness of the 'Empowerment Program' for the persons with disabilities caused by industrial accidents. The program was developed on the basis of the analysis of focus group interviews for the rehabilitation counselors who work with the persons with disabilities caused by industrial accidents. Also, it was based on Miley et al's empowerment model and the group social work practice. The goal of the program was to strengthen the level of empowerment and decrease emotional frustration for the persons with disabilities caused by industrial accidents. The program consisted of two different types: one for the hospitalized person and the other for the discharged person. The program practiced once a week for 6 weeks and 8 weeks by the choice of the rehabilitation counselors. In order to verify the effectiveness of the program, the participants included 11 persons for the experimental group and 10 persons for the control group. The empowerment scores of the two groups were estimated at the point of pre-test and post-test and were analysed through the Wilcoxon signed rank test and Mann-Whitney U test. As the results of the analyses showed, there were significant differences in the increases in the areas of total empowerment and self-image as a sub-scale between the two groups. In conclusion, the effectiveness of the program was confirmed. Also, it has been verified that the program can be an important social work practice tool for strengthening the empowerment level of the persons with disabilities caused by industrial accidents.

  • This study reviewed research and design directions on VR-Tangible interaction and explored market-driven approach of VR-tangible interaction applications. As a case study, we studied autism remedy system based on VR-tangible interaction design. Literature and field study has done on autism and its remedy methodologies. Based on observation process about patients, therapists, and remedy programs, interaction factors for autism remedy are found and then design strategy, system configuration, and remedy contents scenarios are set up to solve time and resource problems, presence problems, and efficiency issues of remedy results.

The Effects of the Daily Life Management Program of the Elderly with Mild Cognitive Impairment on Cognition Function, Depression and Health Promoting Lifestyle (경도인지장애 노인의 일상생활 관리프로그램이 인지기능, 우울 및 건강증진생활양식에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out whether the cognitive function, depression, and health promotion lifestyle changes are maintained or improved through the dementia prevention program when applying the dementia prevention program along with the daily life management program to the elderly with mild cognitive impairment. The study was conducted from April 1 to August 9, 2019, and 30 elderly people with mild cognitive impairment who participated in the dementia prevention program at the Dementia Safty Center in Seoul were studied. The study found that cognitive function (MMSE-DS) and health promotion lifestyle (HPLP-II) were maintained and improved compared to control groups in the experimental group that voluntarily implemented daily life management programs along with dementia prevention programs, and that depression (SF-GDS) decreased. Therefore, based on the results of this study, in future studies, we hope to develop a variety of voluntary daily life management programs to maintain and improve the effectiveness of the dementia prevention program for a long period of time. I hope that the prospective study will be done.

A Meta Analysis of the Effects of Physical Activity Programs in the Elderly with Disabilities (장애노인 신체활동 프로그램 효과에 대한 메타분석)

  • The study conducted a meta analysis to identify the effects of physical activity programs for the elderly with disabilities. The 14 out of 177 studies, fulfilled the process and requirement, were selected for the Hedges'g, funnel plot, forest plot, Egger's regression test, trim-and-fill, fail-safe N. There were three conclusions based on the results. First, the physical activity was effective for the elderly with disabilities and showed good effects on the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. Second, the physical activity programs of fundamental exercise skill, game and sport, and fitness exercise showed positive effects on the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains in the elderly with disabilities. Third, the fundamental exercise skill for the psychomotor domain, the game and sport for the cognitive domain, and the fitness exercise for the affective domain were the most effective for the elderly with disabilities.

A Study of Leisure Programs for Hemiplegia in Community Rehabilitation Center in Ulsan (울산지역 장애인복지관을 이용하는 뇌졸중 장애인의 여가활동에 관한 연구)

  • Objective : The study is to investigate current state of leisure activity in people with stroke (including leisure activity that people with stroke participate and hope, the reason why people with stroke paticipate in leisure activity, the cost that spent in leisure activity, and leisure activity satisfaction) on community rehabilitation center. Method : Frequency analysis were performed with the SPSS 12.0 statistics package program. Result : First, the findings showed that leisure activity participated most of people with stroke disabled appear as 'swimming', and appear sequence 'gate ball', 'yoga', 'energy gymnastics' on sports leisure activity. Second, the findings showed that leisure activity costs are fifth thousand won a month on average, most of people with stroke experienced satisfactory state in leisure activity. Third, the findings showed that leisure activity appeared to satisfaction 63.1% people with stroke disabled used the community rehabilitation center. Conclusion : First, The community rehabilitation center must develop leisure activity for people with stroke. Second, Leisure activity needs to support financial affairs. Third, leisure activity need professor for body function improve. Fourth, leisure activity must participates with the community sociaty.

Effects of a Logotherapy-Based Music and Imagery Program on the Self-Worth of Personal Assistants for the Disabled (의미치료에 기반한 음악과 심상 프로그램이 장애인 활동보조인의 자기가치감에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study has proved the intervention effects of the proposed logotherapy-based music imagery (LBMI) program on the self-worth of the personal assistants for the disabled. The program, in the image activities and at the stage of postlude after listening to music, unites logodrama of logotherapy, paradoxical intention and dereflected techniques. The intervention effects of the LBMI program were tested for the 28 personal assistants for the disabled who found themselves without the value and meaning of life and were randomly equally divided into the experimental and control groups. This intervention was carried out for the six different terms, each of which was alloted 60 minutes. To evaluate the intervention effects, the self-worth scale were examined before and after the intervention for both experimental and control group. The result shows that the self-worth improved significantly in the experimental group(p < 0.001), whereas it remained unchanged in the control group(p > 0.459). This finding proves that the proposed LBMI program ameliorates the self-worth of the personal assistants for the disabled.

Effects of an animal-assisted therapy program on social-emotional development and learning-related social skills in children with developmental disabilities (동물매개치료 프로그램이 발달장애아동의 사회정서발달 및 학습관련 사회적 기술에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an animal-mediated therapy program on children with developmental disabilities on social skills related to social-emotional development and learning, which are important in modern society. The subjects of the study were children with developmental disabilities at a special school, and the animal-mediated therapy program consisted of 12 sessions. The study was divided into experimental and control groups and conducted pre- and post-test by measurement items. SPSS 25.0 was used to analyze the data. First, children with developmental disabilities in the experimental group who participated in the animal-mediated therapy program showed a significant difference (z=-2.20, p<.05) in the overall social-emotional development compared to the control group, and statistically significant values were found in the subfactors of non-dependence on teachers, interaction with peers, and achievement motivation. Second, the experimental group who received animal-mediated therapy showed a significant effect (z=-2.20, p<.05) in all factors of learning-related social skills. In conclusion, animal-mediated therapy was found to have a positive effect on the social-emotional development and learning-related social skills of children with developmental disabilities. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that more specific and systematic programs should be developed and applied to enhance the social-emotional development and learning-related social skills of children with developmental disabilities for a healthy life.
