Physiological Evaluation of Korean Mountain Ginseng and Korean Mountain Ginseng Leaf Tea (장뇌삼 및 장뇌삼엽차의 생리활성평가)

  • When extracts of KMG (Korean mountain ginseng) leaf tea and fermented KMG leaf tea were compared, the fermented KMG leaf tea extract showedhigher activity at each stage of density. Among the material groups, the KMG extract hadthe least profound SOD-like activity, and similar SOD-like activities were noted in the fermented KMG, KMG leaf tea, and fermented KMG leaf tea extracts. With regard to nitrite scavenging ability at a pH of 1.2, the KMG, fermented KMG, and KMG leaf tea groups exhibited similar results, and at pH 3.0, the KMG and KMG leaf tea extract groups exhibited more profound nitrite scavenging ability compared to the fermented groups. In the case of HeLa cell treatments, the KMG and fermented KMG leaf tea extracts exhibited cancer cell propagation restraint rates in excess of 30%, at a density of 1 mg/mL. And MCF-7 cells treated with fermented KMG and KMG leaf tea showedsimilar propagation restraint rates at more than 27% of cancer cells, at a density of 1 mg/mL. Among the materials, the KMG extract hadthe lowest cancer cell propagation restraint rate at 21%, and the fermented KMG leaf tea extract had the highest rate at more than 70%.

  • 한국산 인삼, 장뇌삼 및 중국산 장뇌삼의 각 추출 용매에 따른 항산화 활성을 측정하였다. 추출 용매에 따른 전자 공여 능력은 모든 시료에서 농도 의존적인 결과를 나타냈으며, 그 중 한국산 장뇌삼의 hexane 추출물 $600{\mu}g/mL$에서 71.4%로 가장 높은 전자 공여능을 보였다. Superoxide anion radical 소거 능력에 대해서는 $H_2O$, hexane, butanol, chloroform 및 total 추출물 순으로 높은 활성을 보였고, 시료별로는 한국산 장뇌삼이 가장 활성이 높았고, 그 다음으로 중국산 장뇌삼, 한국산 인삼의 순으로 나타났다.

Quality Characteristics of Candy Products Added with Hot-Water Extracts of Korean Mountain Ginsengs (장뇌삼 열수추출액 함유 캔디제품의 품질특성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics of candy products added with hot-water extract of korean mountain ginsengs as the useful food materials. Water content of the products were $0.41{\sim}0.88\%$. Candy product with $5\%$ addition showed the highest content($87.5\%$) in Brix. pH ranges of the products were $5.50{\sim}5.56$. In terms of Hunters color value, L value was lower in $10\%$ candy product(56.40) than that of other products, while a and b value were increased in $10\%$ candy product. Sucrose was the major free sugar of candy products, and major organic acids were malic, tartaric and citric acid. Free amino acids were predominantly arginine, serine, aspartic acid and proline. The major minerals were K, Mn, Na and Mg. Antioxidant activity of candy products were about $64.28{\sim}70.88\%$ compared to $96.81\%$ of BHA(200 ppm). Result of sensory evaluation of $10\%$ candy products gained higher sensory score in overall acceptance, compared to the other products.

  • 한국산 인삼과 장뇌삼, 중국산 장뇌삼 용매별 추출물을 처리하여 세포 독성을 비교 관찰한 결과, 모든 암세포주에서 농도 의존적인 세포 독성을 나타내었다. 자궁암 세포주인 HeLa에서는 hexane과 butanol 추출물이, 결장암 세포주인 HT29에서는 butanol 추출물이, 신장암 세포주인 A498에서는 hexane 추출물이 특히 높은 항암 효과를 보여주었다. 이상의 결과를 볼 때, 장뇌삼과 인삼은 모두 높은 항암 효과를 지니고 있었으며, 그 중에서도 한국산 장뇌삼의 암세포 성장 저해 효능이 가장 뛰어남을 확인할 수 있었다.

Antioxidant Activity of Tea Made from Korean Mountain-Cultivated Ginseng Leaves and its Influence on Lipid Metabolism (장뇌삼 엽차의 항산화활성 및 지질대사에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the chemical composition and biological function of tea made from mountain-cultivated ginseng leaves. The antioxidant activities of tea made from mountain-cultivated ginseng leaves were determined by measuring their electron-donating ability based on their DPPH and nitrite-scavenging ability. The electron-donating abilities of tea made from mountain-cultivated ginseng leaves (500 and 1,000 ppm) as determined by DPPH assay were 45.6 and 85.1%, respectively. The nitrite scavenging ability of tea made from mountain-cultivated ginseng leaves (500 and 1,000 ppm) at pH 6.0 were 32.8 and 51.4%, respectively. Furthermore, the nitrite scavenging activity increased in a dose-dependent manner at all pH values. The effects of tea made from mountain-cultivated ginseng leaves on Male Sprague-Dawley rats were also evaluated. To accomplish this, the rats were divided into three groups (A: normal diet group, B: high fat diet group and C: high fat diet supplemented with tea made from mountain-cultivated ginseng leaves group). The anti-obesity effects of tea made from mountain-cultivated ginseng leaves were then evaluated. The serum total lipid, total cholesterol and triglyceride contents in C group were lower than those of B group; however, these differences were not statistically significant. The HDL-cholesterol content was significantly higher in the C group than in the other groups. Taken together the results of this study suggest that tea made from mountain-cultivated ginseng leaves possesses antioxidant activity and improves lipid metabolism.

Ginsenoside Compositions and Antioxidant Activity of Cultured and Mountain Ginseng (장뇌삼과 재배삼의 ginsenoside 함량과 항산화활성 추정)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant activities and ginsenoside compositions of 4-year-old cultured ginseng roots (4CGR), 4-year-old mountain ginseng roots (4MGR) and leaves (4MGL), and 8-year-old mountain ginseng roots (MGR) and leaves (8MGL). Ginseng root and leaves were extracted with water and 80% ethanol. Crude saponin content of 4CGR was 3.85% (d.b.) and the contents of 4MGR, 4MGL, 8MGR and 8MGL were 6.75, 8.57, 6.53 and 7.54% (d.b.), respectively. 4CGR showed the highest content of ginsenoside-$Rh_1$ (6.07 mg/g), 4MGR showed the highest content of ginsenoside-$Rb_1$ (11.63 mg/g), 4MGL showed the highest content of ginsenoside-Re (24.35 mg/g), 8MGR showed the highest content of ginsenoside-$Rh_1$ (19.77 mg/g), and 8MGL showed the highest content of ginsenoside-Re (20.43 mg/g). Total antioxidant activity (AEAC) was ranged from 5.56 at 4MGR to 20.67 mg AA eq/g at 8MGL.

Differences in Free Amino Acids between Korean Ginsengs and Mountain Ginsengs (고려인삼과 장뇌삼의 유리 아미노산 비교)

  • Free amino acids were extracted and analyzed from Korean mountain ginsengs. Chinese mountain ginsengs and Korean white ginsengs by HPLC. The highest total free amino acid content was 12.46 mg/g in Korean white ginseg(P) and the lowest total free amino acid content was 6.86 mg/g in Korean mountain ginseng (Kㅡ6) The content of arginine in a Korean white ginseng(Y) was 8.77 mg/g Arginine was 77.80% of total free amino acids in a Korean mountin ginseng (KM2) The amount of histidine and methionine in Korean mountain ginsengs were higher than any other ginsengs. The highest amount of threonine and lysine were observed in Korean white ginseng and Chinese mountain ginseng respectively, The contents of glycine in Korean mountain ginseng and korean white ginseng were higher than Chinses mountain ginseng. There is no significant difference between two mountain ginsengs and Korean white ginseng.

Differential Anti-Carcinogenic Effect of Mountain Cultivated Ginseng and Ginseng on Mouse Skin Carcinogenesis (마우스 피부암에 대한 장뇌삼과 인삼의 특이적 항암 효능)

  • Mountain cultivated ginseng (MCG) is a type of Panax ginseng C. A. Mayer, grown in the mountains by artificial seeding. In general, it has been known that the biophysical activities of MCG is greater than that of ginseng. However, the in vivo efficacy of MCG on cancer has not been studied. In this study, we investigated the anti-carcinogenic effect of MCG and ginseng using the 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA)-12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol- 13-acetate (TPA) two stage mouse skin carcinogenesis model. Six weeks of female ICR mice were divided into control, MCG, and ginseng diet groups and were subjected into two different experimental protocols. In the first study, each experimental diet was fed with TPA promotion for 24 weeks. The result showed that supplementation of MCG reduced tumor incidence, tumor multiplicity, and tumor size compared to those of the control and ginseng groups. In the second study, 3 groups of mice were supplied with each diet 4 weeks before DMBA tumor initiation, until the end of experiment. The result showed that tumor incidence, tumor multiplicity, and tumor size were reduced in the ginseng diet group compared to those of the control and MCG groups. TPA-induced BrdU incorporation was also significantly reduced in the ginseng diet group. Taken together, these results suggest that MCG is chemotherapeutic, whereas ginseng has a chemopreventative effect on mouse skin cancer.

  • 현재 국내외의 인삼시장에 각종 인삼이 종래에 없든 대규모의 집산이 활발 하게 진행되고 있다. 그러나 기술 관리의 부당으로 각종 인삼에 대한 품종 감별이 제대로 되지않아 시장의 정상적 교역에 막대한 영향을 주고 있는 실정이다. 다년간 대량의 산삼, 장뇌삼, 재배인삼의 상품 경영에서 얻은 실지 경험과 각종 인삼 특성에 대한 관찰 연구 결과를 보고 한다.
