  • Recently, the construction industry commonly uses FRP as a reinforcement material because of its material advantages. FRP attached reinforcement has various advantages such as high strength, stiffness, excellent durability and construction practicability comparing to its weight. However, external attachment of FRP is water-tighted with low water permeable material, not draining water, probably causing damages on a permanent structure. The study manufactured it through pultrusion and examined GP(glass fiber panel) of which material-mechanical properties are almost same as the existing FRP but durability and attachment performance are better by stationary experiments, testing load-deflection curve, destruction types and load-deflection relation under repetitive loading test. As a result of 2,000,000 fatigue tests, it did not result in the destruction and showed excellent permanent attachment and durability as it displays significantly low compressive strain of concrete.

  • RC flat plates may be governed by a serviceability as well as a strength condition, and a construction sequence and its impact on the distributions of gravity loads among slabs tied by shores are decisive factors influencing short and long term behaviors of flat plate. Over-loading and tensile cracking in early-aged slabs significantly increase the deflection of a flat plate system under construction, and a reshoring work may be helpful in reducing slab deflections by controlling the vertical distributions of loads in a multi-shored flat plate system. In this study, a effect of reshoring works on short and long term deflections of flat plate systems are analyzed. The slab construction loads with various reshoring schemes and slab design and construction conditions are defined by a simplified method, and the practical calculation of slab deflections with considering construction sequences and concrete cracking and long term effects is applied. From parametric studies, the reshoring works are verified to reduce slab deflections, and the optimized conditions for the reshoring works and slab design and constructions are discussed.

  • Steel effects on creep deformation of prestressed concrete structues are investigated by a parametric study. Prestressed steel ratio, Prestressed steel distribution, initial flexural stress gradient, and modular ratio are selected as parameters. Sectional analysis for the beam section of parameter combination is performed to find curvatrue change due to creep. Based on the investigation, long-term curvature formulas from regression analysis are proposed. Application of the furmulas to simply supported prostressed concrete beam shows the effect of steel on deflection.

  • Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has been gathering interest from designers and engineers for its possible usage as a replacement reinforcement of a steel reinforcing bar due to its advantageous characteristics such as high tensile strength, non-corrosive material, etc. Since it is manufactured with various contents ratios, fiber types, and shapes without any general specification, test results for concrete members reinforced with these FRP reinforcing bars could not be systematically used. Moreover, since investigations for FRP reinforced members have mainly focused on short-term behavior, the purpose of this study is to evaluate long-term behaviors of glass FRP (GFRP) reinforcing bar and concrete beams reinforced with GFRP. In this paper, test results of tensile and bond performance of GFRP reinforcing bar and creep behavior are presented. In the creep tests, results showed that 100 years of service time can be secured when sustained load level is below 55% of tensile strength of GFRP reinforcing bar. A modification factor of 0.73 used to calculate long-term deflection of GFRP reinforced beams was acquired from the creep tests for GFRP reinforced concrete beams. It is expected that these test results would give more useful information for design of FRP reinforced members.

  • IPC girder is more prestressed and has smaller sectional area than the conventional PSC-I type girder due to incremental prestressing along the construction process. The continuous IPC girder bridge may have problems in serviceability and stresses at internal supports because it is very flexible. In this paper, The long-term behavior of the continuous IPC girder bridge is studied through long-term structural analysis and monitoring the deflections. The long-term behavior is monitored right before the introduction of 2nd prestressing that is the construction process different from the conventional PSC-I type girder bridge. The total station of high-precision was used in measuring the deflections. According to the monitoring result so far, the continuous IPC girder bridges does not show remarkable long-term behavior like severe camber or deflection and the measured deflections are very similar to the results of long-term structural analysis.

  • As the risk of earthquakes increases recently, earthquake-resistant designs were getting interest. For this reason, this study applies that Friction pendulum-type seismic isolator is a device that attenuates seismic energy by friction and pendulum motion. The friction pendulum-type seismic isolator of this study is very easy to transport, install and maintain with light weight of metal by applying the slider using high strength engineering plastic. In addition, there is an advantage that the corrosion resistance is very excellent compared to the existing metal parts. However, there is concern about long-term durability by replacing metal materials. In this study, the frictional pendulum-type seismic isolator with EP was applied to compressive-shear test, repeated fatigue test, and ultimate load test after fatigue test, and analyzed the deformation and shear or properties after the test. As the results, the adequacy of long term fatigue durability was experimentally proven.

  • RC flat plate, which has no large flexural stiffness by boundary beams, may be governed by serviceability as well as strength condition. A construction sequence and its impact on distributions of construction loads among slabs tied by shores are decisive factors on immediate and long term performances of flat plate. The over-loading and tensile cracking in early-aged slabs significantly increase the deflection of flat plate system. In this study, for slab deflections, the practical analysis scheme using a linear analysis program is formulated with considering construction sequence and concrete cracking effects. The concept of the effective moment of inertia in calculating deflections of one-way bending member, that is presented in structural design codes, is extended to the finite element analysis of the two-way slab system of flat plates. Effects of over-loads during construction on deflections of flat plate system are analyzed by applying the proposed practical analysis scheme into the critical construction load conditions calculated from the simplified method.

  • During construction of reinforced concrete building, construction load two times as much as the self weight of a slab, is imposed on the slab, and strength and stiffness of the early-age concrete are not fully developed. As the result, the construction load frequently causes excessive deflection and cracking in the flat plate. The minimum thickness of flat plate specified by the current design codes does not properly address such effect of the construction load. In the present study, a simplified method was developed to calculate the deflection of flat plate affected by the construction load. The proposed method can consider the effects of a variety of design parameters such as the aspect ratio of plate, boundary condition, concrete strength, and construction load. A design equation for the minimum thickness was developed based on the proposed method.

  • Concrete filled steel tubular (CFT) columns are becoming popular in structural applications. The increased popularity comes from their excellent structural properties such as high strength, high ductility, and large energy absorption capacity. However, the disadvantage feature of CFT column is the difficulty in predicting its time dependant characteristic (i.e., creep and shrinkage) of inner concrete. The time dependent behavior of CFT column can cause serious serviceability problems. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the long term behavior of CFT column. This paper presents analytical and experimental studies on long-term behavior of CFT-column under a central axial loading. Two loading cases are considered in the research; (1) the load applied only at the inner core concrete of CFT-column and (2) the load applied simultaneously on both concrete and steel tube. Analysis method using the bond strength model is proposed and conclusions on long-term properties of CFT-column can be derived from the results.

  • Experimental tests and theoretical methods of the analysis of the concrete shrinkage behaviors of steel-concrete composite girders are described herein. Steel-concrete composite test specimens were fabricated in the laboratory, and long-term behaviors such as deflections, curvatures, and strains were measured for one year. Test results were compared to the analytical results obtained by using the age-adjusted effective modulus method (AEMM). In addition, composite girders have been analyzed to investigate the effects of several parameters on the concrete shrinkage behaviors. From the long-term test results, it could be used to validate AEMM for the evaluation of the shrinkage behavior of composite girders. Because the shrinkage of the reinforced concrete slab in composite girders may lead to large tensile stresses in the concrete section, the transverse cracking of the slab could occur both in the positive and negative regions. Therefore, if the cracking of concrete would be ignored,it might lead to an overestimation of the stresses of the steel section of composite girders. Based on this research, it is proposed that the effect of transverse concrete cracking on the shrinkage behavior of steel-concrete composite bridges be considered.
