This study was carried out to clarify the effects of number of branches per pot on the growth and yield in long term bag-culture of sweet pepper. Two plants were grown in pot with four, six, and eight branches. The results are summarized as the followings : 1. Plant height, stem diameter, leaf dry weight, root dry weight, and stem dry weight did not significantly differ among treatments, while the number of leaves and leaf area were the greatest In the treatment with eight branches per pot. 2. Although fruit length was not influenced by the number of branches per pot, fruit diameter and fruit weight were greater with four branches per pot. The yield of the four branches was 124.5ton/ha, which was not significantly different from the yield of the eight branches, 113.4ton/ha. Considering the average fruit weight, fruit quality, and labor saving, four branches per pot appears to be appropriate. 3. Although the yield of eight branches per pot during the first five months was higher, however, four branches per pot should be recommended for the long term bag- culture of sweet pepper because the yield of the four branches from April, which is the middle stage of growth to the final harvest was higher than the yields of the others.

단고추는 국내에서는 1934년에 "복견감장" 이라는 품종을 도입한 것이 최초로 알려져 있으며 그후 영리를 목적으로 본격적인 농가재배가 이루어진 것은 80년대부터이다$^{3)}$ . 그후로 지속적으로 재배면적이 증가되어 단고추의 재배면적은 ＇97년 현재100㏊ 정도 재배되고 있고 식생활의 변화와 더불어 그 소요가 크게 증가되어 면적도 증가 추세에 있는 작물중의 하나다. (중략) 하나다. (중략)

This study was conducted to select useful medium material as a replacement for the rockwool in long term bag-culture of sweet pepper. The sole use of perlite and carbonized rice hull(CRH) as well as their mixture with various combinations were compared to the rockwool. The results are summarized as the followings : 1. Plant height and number of leaves did not significantly differ among media. However, in the mixture of CRH(1) : Perlite(1), stem diameter was thicker; plant weight and root weight were heavier, and T/R ratio was lower. 2. Although fruit length and number of fruits did not significantly differ among media, the mixture of CRH(1) : Perlite(1) provided longer fruit length, more fruits, heavier fruit weight, and greater yield. 3. Monthly yield was continuously increased from the first harvest in November to the harvest in May next year. The amount of increase in the fruit yield of the mixture of CRH(1) : Perlite(1) from the first harvest to the final harvest was significantly greater than the amount of increase of other media. 4. The amount of total nitrogen and phosphate was higher in mixture of CRH (1) : Perlite(1), while the amount of other elements did not significantly differ among mixtures.

단고추(Capsicum annum)는 중앙아메리카와 남아메리카의 열대지방이 원산지로 알려져 있고 매운맛이 없으며 미숙과를 주로 샐러드용으로 이용하는 원추형 과실을 착생하는 품종군으로 일반고추재배와는 달리 반드시 정지 및 유인을 해야만 좋은 과실을 생산할 수 있으며, 유인 및 관리정도에 따라 품질의 차이가 커 이것이 가격에 영향을 미쳐 농가의 소득과 직결되여 있다. 정지와 유인은 보통재배의 경우 U자형과 V자형으로 하고 있으나 노동력이 많이 소요된다. (중략)
