  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic information requisite in the new sizing system for gloves. KS glove standards' size dimensions, size designation and labeling systems were analyzed. Also, KS glove standards' control sizes were compared to the anthropometric data of 824 Korean adults taken in the previous study. As well, the ISO hand size system was also compared to the anthropometric data of the previous study according to frequency tables of hand length and hand circumference. The size dimensions showed differences among KS standards and there was no size designation and labeling systems existed in KS standards. Among KS glove size systems, protective rubber gloves for radioactive contamination and surgical rubber gloves' size which followed ISO system were accurately indicate the hand size of the person a glove is intended to fit. ISO glove sizing system comprised the control dimensions of hand length and hand circumference. The coverage of ISO size A was 84.8% which was highest among ISO size A. B, C. And in hand circumference 178, 191, 203, 216mm showed the frequencies above 3% and in hand length 167, 175. 183, 191, 199mm showed the frequencies above 3%.

  • The aim of this study is to understand problems with both fit and sizing system of gloves by analyzing the glove production industries with an emphasis on the sizing system, production measurement system, and general marking situation. Also, to suggest the basic raw materials for improving sizing system for gloves, actual glove control sizes were compared to the anthropometric data of the previous study Fifteen domestic production companies were participated in this study-Domestic glove production companies established their own sizing system by copying inter-national brand's glove sizing system or by their experience. The Korean Standard of gloves and the 1997 Korean Standard Anthropometrics Measurement for producing glove patterns are not considered because of its discordance with the reality of the required measurements. Domestic glove production companies used different size designation and labeling system. Size measurement unit also showed difference among the glove production companies. Some companies used 'cm', some used 'mm', some used 'inch' for the measurement unit. In general, companies produced 5 to 4 sizes in one design of glove and the production was the highest in M and L size. In 9 out of 15 companies preferred control size as hand length and hand circumference. For reference size, most of the companies preferred finger circumference, finger length, palm length, hand breadth, crotch height, and hand thickness. Actual glove sizes were compared to the anthropometric data of the previous study. The results indicated that most of the measurements of actual glove sizes were significantly larger than the anthropometric data.

  • Most apparel products have national standards for sizing; however, for gloves, national sizing standards have not yet been established. This study aims to analyze children's hand dimensions and propose a size specification for children's gloves that shows children's hand-related size information. Among the 3D measurements of sixth Size Korea Project, the measurement data of 19 dimensions related to the hands of 1,057 boys and girls aged 7-13 years old were analyzed. The distribution and growth trend of hand measurements for boys and girls demonstrated considerable mean differences and distribution trends by gender and age as per hand dimensions, which leads to the conclusion that it is necessary to show these results in the children's glove design. Based on these results, the cross-distribution maps of children's hand length and hand circumference were drafted; furthermore, the distribution relationship with an adult hand size was identified. Based on the distribution of hand sizes, the distribution of adult hand sizes overlapped with children's hand sizes was verified, and children's glove size specifications were presented. The results can be used as useful data such as measures for setting the size range and sizing system for children's gloves.

  • Selection of a key dimension (s) by considering the characteristics of hand dimensions is needed to design gloves and construct a sound sizing system for gloves The present study identified key dimensions of glove design by analyzing the relationships between hand dimensions and demonstrated the construction process of a glove sizing system. By conducting correlation and regression analyses on 70 hand dimensions including 3 key dimension candidates (hand length; hand circumference; hand breadth) with the 1988 US Army data, hand length and hand circumference were selected as key dimensions for glove design. Glove sizing systems were constructed for males and females by applying the selected key dimensions, 0.5 inch of sizing intervals, and 2% of presence rate criterion to the US Army data. This study suggests that glove sizing systems for males and females be very different from each other and a glove sizing system for males include more sizes than that for females.

  • This study was performed to get basic data for gloves size system and pattern planning suitable Korean hand shape. Data was collected through measuring hand size of man and woman from age 18 to 30 as subjects living in metropolitan area. by analysing the measured data, the difference in man and woman and the gloves size system was established. The results of study are as follows: 1. The Deviation of hand girths and hand lengths was larger than that of hand width in both man group and woman group. In all items. deviation in man was larger than woman. 2. In sex difference, there was difference between mall group and woman group in all items. In age difference, there was difference between mall group and woman group in mainly girth and the difference was bigger in group under 24 years old than in group over 24 years old. 3. The weight showed the highest $correlation(r{\geqq}0.8)$ with girths and high correlation with widths $(r{\geqq}0.7).$ The height showed the highest positive $correlation(r{\geqq}0.8)$ with and elbow length and high correlations with width and girths item. There were high positive correlation between vertical lengths in hand and between horizontal lengths but low correlation between vertical lengths and horizontal lengths. 4. The basic parts for gloves size system, hand lengths and hand girths were divided into 1cm interval. The results shouted that $91.0\%$ of man group were ranged from 18cm to 20cm section and $92.4\%$, of woman group were ranged from 16cm to 18cm section. 5. The interval which has the highest covet· rate was hand length 19cm and hand girth 20cm interval which covered $18.65\%$ of man group. The intervals which showed cover rate more than $5\%$ was total 7 and they covered $73.1\%$ of man group. The interval which has which has the highest cover rate was hand length 17cm and hand girth 17cm interval which covered $21.37\%$ of woman group. The intervals which showed cover rate more than $5\%$ was total 6 and they covered $72.5\%$ of total woman group.
