  • My artwork, '1000 years', in the form of an animation film has been exhibited in the '2011 Haein Art project' of a special exhibition at the Haeinsa monastery compound. The '1000 years' represents the marvels of sacredness and Buddhist symbols using the surrealist expression of computer animation. This paper would argue how Buddhist idea can be explored by the surrealist expression of 3D computer animation. In the light of this, animation and surrealist expression will be reviewed by the epistemological approach and based on this, I would attempt to reveal how this computer animation film represents the meaning of Buddhist symbols which exist in the monastery compound. This research is processed by the case study related to my artwork as the form of art practice based research.

  • The emergence of post-human beings in the 4th Industrial Revolution era led to an epistemological shift in the need for reflection on new relationships with non-human beings, away from human-centered modern humanism. For this reflection, post-human sensibility to empathize and understand the surrounding world is required. In order to cultivate this sensibility, we analyzed the case of art works that can think about and experience the post-human era based on the criteria of 'animal-becoming', 'earth-becoming', and 'machine-being' presented by post-humanist researcher Bridotti. Since the work of art reflects the spirit of the era, we confirmed the positive aspect of the text that can reflect and experience the post-human era. This study is meaningful as a basic study by presenting art works that can be used in art education to improve post-human sensitivity.

  • This thesis studies and analyzes the performative expression and meaning of ceramic performance art in the diversifying contemporary ceramic art. Therefore, after analyzing the ceramic performance works of Miquel Barcelό, Josef Nadj, Kang-hyo Lee, Teri Frame, and J. J. McCracken, I tried to find out the performativity and effectiveness of the performance. As a result of the study, the ceramic performance shows the expandability beyond the expression form and production process shown in general ceramic artworks through physical actions using clay. In addition, the real-time performance of the actor is a process embodiment of creating an event, and the open structure in which the artist and the audience relate to each other enables interpretation and understanding in a different way than before. Convergence attempts with other media imply borderlessness in contemporary ceramics and show the possibility of expanding into new field. This is expected to have a positive impact that breaks the ideological frame of the ceramic arts field, which has strong craft characteristics.

  • This study aims to investigate the interrelationship between German expressionist dance and grotesque art, with a specific focus on the analysis of Pina Bausch's renowned work, <Café Müller>. German expressionist dance emerged as a response to the social instability and economic downturn that followed World War I, leading to the introduction of expressionism and grotesque aesthetics. The incorporation of grotesque expression in dance plays a critical role in boldly portraying the destruction of the human condition and its underlying causes, thereby offering insights into social contradictions and the erosion of human nature. This research thoroughly explores the intricate connection between German expressionist dance and grotesque expression, providing a comprehensive analysis of Pina Bausch's <Café Müller> to reassess the profound meaning and significance of expressionist dance. Additionally, this study delves into the inherent grotesque tendencies embedded within the work, surpassing conventional notions of visual beauty and ugliness, and strives to reinterpret the essence of grotesque expression through the nuanced movements of the dancers and the integration of auditory elements within the performance.

  • 'Thinking and Expression' develops comprehensive problem-solving ability to solve various problems in life and society by cultivating thinking skills such as creative, logical, reflective thinking, and connected thinking and communication ability to communicate one's thoughts through writing and speaking. This is a college basic liberal arts course established to improve students. The purpose of this study is to introduce the case of rewriting of literature reading and healing performed as an extension of storytelling learning in 'Thinking and Expression' class. In class, we read Michel Tournier's short story "Let Joy Remain in Me" and shared our feelings about the final scene of the work. Then, we each presented a question that came to mind as we read the work, and we shared our thoughts with the members of the group. Next, the students created the content that will follow the last scene of the work with the direction of healing. Through this, we tried to read the work carefully and deeply appreciate its contents, and we had time to feel the creative experience of the reader re-creating the meaning of the work and the effect of healing rewriting. Then, we turned the direction of reflection to the realm of the reader's own life and expressed their desired future self in writing, imagining that it had already been realized. Through this, we tried to discover the meaning of practical rewriting towards self-actualization.

  • This study is based on the importance of observation or exploration in contemporary scientific inquiry and the need to expand the learning materials of science inquiry. It aims to analyze students' characteristics of exploration in abduction by developing and applying an educational program using art materials. For this study, a program named "Scientist going to the museum" utilizing artistic materials such as Oriental and Western paintings, mythology, orchestral suite, and traditional houses, was developed and five middle school students participated. Students who found and explored interesting phenomena in the work were divided into three main groups depending on the characteristics of the exploration activity. Some students observed and described elements that could be connected to scientific concepts, while others mainly explored everyday elements that were relatively unrelated to such concepts. Moreover, another type of students explored the works based on their subjective evaluations. This study shows that learning materials that cannot be visually explored are not suitable for abductive activities that students' prior knowledge has a significant impact on their exploration, and that educational materials for earth science inquiry could be expanded. This study also provides an example of learning materials and methods, and that abduction may be utilized for learning astronomy.
