Community-dwelling older adults aged 65 years and older were recruited from three welfare centers. A total of 245 older adults was assessed with the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test-Korean (AUDIT-K), Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form-Korea Version (GDSSF-K), Self-Esteem Scale (SES), and Scale for Suicidal Ideation (SSI). Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were performed using the SPSS WIN 19.0 program. Higher depression, lower self-esteem, no religion, and poorly perceived health were statistically significant determinants of higher level of suicidal ideation in older adults. To prevent or reduce suicidal ideation of older adults, health care providers should consider the determinants identified in this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to review whether the self-esteem of Republic of Korea army officers and noncommissioned officers affect cultural acceptability and at the same time to determine whether these relationships are mediated by adjustment to military life and job satisfaction. For this purpose, we conducted a survey by random sampling of 580 officers and noncommissioned officers serving in the army units located in Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province. The collected data was analyzed by a structural equation model, including statistical and correlation analysis. As a result of analysis, self-esteem of the military officers and noncommissioned officers appeared to be mediated only by military life adjustment, or to affect the cultural acceptability mediated by the military life and job satisfaction in turn. Therefore, in order to increase the cultural acceptability of military officers and noncommissioned officers, ROK Army should enhance the self-esteem, job satisfaction and adaptability of them.

  • This study aims to analyze the impact of names on stress and self-esteem, comparing before and after renaming. A survey was published and conducted on a renaming club website for the period from 1 April 2013 to 31 May and there were 161 participants. The invitation to survey was limited to members who had changed their names at least six months before the survey and the impact was measured by comparing before and after the first renaming. For the analysis of the data, frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA and correlation analysis were performed. As a result, the level of stress caused by one's name was lowered after renaming, and one's self-esteem significantly went up compared to before renaming. Therefore, the stress from one's name is believed to affect one's self-esteem, and the study shows that there is a negative correlation as the lower the stress from one's name becomes, the higher one's self-esteem goes up. Therefore, this study is considered to be able to contribute to reducing stress caused by names, as it has proved that the self-esteem increases and the level of stress is lowered after renaming.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between children's self-esteem, peer attachment, parenting attitudes, and children's grit, and to specifically identify the influence of children's self-esteem, peer attachment, and parenting attitudes on children's grit. The characteristics of the survey subjects were identified through frequency analysis and descriptive statistics analysis of the 11th year of the Korea Children's Panel (2018) data, and Pearson's moment correlation coefficient was calculated for correlation analysis between major variables. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the influence of children's self-esteem, peer attachment, and parenting attitudes on children's grit. The research results are as follows. First, children's self-esteem, peer attachment, and parenting attitudes were found to be positively correlated. Second, the child's self-esteem was found to have a positive influence on the child's grit, and among the peer attachment sub-variables, peer trust was found to have an influence, and among the sub-factors of parenting attitude, 'mother' affection/involvement, 'father' Democratic relationships were found to have an effect. In other words, it can be seen that children's self-esteem at the personal level, peer trust at the school level, and maternal affection and paternal relationship at the family level are useful variables that strengthen children's grit. Accordingly, in order to improve children's grit level, we must consider promotion measures through intervention and support at a multifaceted level.
