  • In the present study, free vibration analysis of multi-delaminated beams is performed. In order to investigate the effects of mu1ti-delaminations on the dynamic characteristics of multi-delaminated beams, the general kinematic continuity conditions are derived from the assumption of constant curvature at the multi-delamination tip. Frequency equations of multi-delaminated beams are obtained by dividing the global multi-delaminated beam into beam segments and by imposing recurrence relation from the continuity conditions un each sub-beam. The comparisons between the results of numerical analysis obtained by finite element analysis and those of present analysis give good agreement with each other. It is shown that the effects of multi-delaminations on free vibration characteristics of laminated beams could be used to detect their sizes, types and locations from the results.

  • This paper deals with the elastica of deflected cantilever column with the constant volume. The columns are subjected to combined loads consisted of an axial compressive load and a couple moment at the free end. Differential equations governing the elastica of such column are derived, in which both the effects of taper type and shear deformation are included. Three kinds of taper types are considered: linear, parabolic and sinusoidal tapers. Differential equations are solved numerically to obtain the elastica of objective columns. The effects of various system parameters on the elastica are investigated extensively. Experimental studies were carried out in order to verify the theoretical results of non-linear behavior of the elasticas.

  • An analysis is presented on the stability of elastic cantilever column subjected to uniformly distributed follower forces as to the influence of the elastic restraints and a tip mass at the free end. The elastic restraints are formed by both the translational and the rotatory springs. For this purpose, the governing equations and boundary conditions are derived by using Hamilton's principle, and the critical flutter loads and frequencies are obtained from the numerical evaluation of the eigenvalue functions of this elastic system. The added tip mass increases as a whole the critical flutter load in this system, but the presence of its moment of inertia of mass has a destabilizing effect. The existence of the translational and rotatory spring at the free end increases the critical flutter load of the elastic cantilever column. Nevertheless their effects on the critical flutter load are not uniform because of their coupling. The translational spring restraining the end of cantilever column decreases the critical flutter load by coupling with a large value of tip mass, while by coupling with the moment of inertia of tip mass its effect on the critical flutter load is contrary. The rotatory spring restraining the free end of cantilever column increases the critical flutter load by coupling with the tip mass, but decreases it by coupling with the moment of inertia of tip mass.

  • This study considers powered explicit guidance, one of the closed-loop guidance laws for satellite launch vehicles. The guidance algorithm employed here does not include the iterative procedure of the original algorithm. Also, the single-target algorithm to treat the general time-varying thrust profiles is described. The computer simulations for the 6-DOF launch vehicle model are performed to investigate the orbit injection accuracy of the guidance algorithm in the nominal/off-nominal flight conditions.

  • On the stability of the Timoshenko cantilever column subjected of a compressive follower force, the influences of the moment of inertia of the tip mass at the free end and the characteristics of a translational spring at the free end of the column are studied. The equations of motion and boundary conditions of system are estabilished by using the d'Alembert virtual work of principle. On the evaluation of stability of the column, the effect of the shear deformation and rotatory inertia is considered in calculation. The moment of inertia of the tip mass at the free end of the column is changed by adjusting the distance c, from the free end of the column to the tip mass center. The free end of the column is supported elastically by a translational spring. For the maintenance of the good stability of the column, it is also proved that the constant of the translational spring at the free end must be very large for the case without a tip mass while it must be small for the case with a tip mass. Therefore, it is found that the shape of the tip mass and the characteristic of the spring at the free end are very effective elements for the stability of the column when the columns subjected to a compressive follower force are designed.

  • Differential equations and their solutions were formulated to describe the deflection of the tapered, nonuniform thickness and width's temple, clamped at one end while the perpendicular force is acting on the other end which is freely suspended. The model was derived based on laws of continuity at every point inside the elastic medium that the deflection, tangent slope, bending moment, shearing force must be continuous within the medium. The model is found to be in good agreement with measurements on the beta titanium temple with the correlation 0.992 and p=0.999(Chi test). Therefore it is possible to predict the effect of various temple parameters such as elastic modulus, thickness, width on the deflection of the temples being considered.

  • The RCS value of maritime ship is indicator of ship's stealth performance and it should be particularly measured for navy ship to ensure survivability on the battlefield. In the design phase of the navy ship, a RCS prediction should be performed to reduce RCS value and achieve ROC(Required Operational Capability) of the ship through configuration control. In operational phase, the RCS value of the ship should be measured for verifying the designed value and obtaining tactical data to take action against enemy missile. During the measurement of RCS for the ship, ship motion can be affected by roll and pitch in accordance with sea state, which should be analyzed into threat elevation from view point of enemy missile. In this paper, we propose a method to measure and analyze RCS of ship in 3-dimensions using a ship motion measuring instrument and a fixed RCS measurement system. In order to verify the proposed method, we conducted a marine experiment using a test ship in sea environment and compared the measurement data with RCS prediction value which is carried by prediction SW($CornerStone^{TM}$) using CAD model of the ship.

  • The forced vibration of a finite cylindrical shell has been analyzed from an elastic wave viewpoint. The displacement vector is used to formulate the vibration field, that is regarded as a superposition of disturbances due to elastic waves propagating on the shell. The reflection matrix is also used in the formulation of the vibration field, that is easily derived in the present approach. It allows one to easily identify the wave conversion of elastic waves at the ends of the shell. The present approach is used to predict the vibration field of the cylindrical shell with free-free boundary conditions. The contribution of each type of elastic waves into the vibration field was identified, and the wave conversion at the ends of the shell was observed. Those results showed that the present approach can be effectively used to analyze the forced vibration of the cylindrical shell from an elastic wave viewpoint.
