Design and Implementation of Science Experiment Models for Artificial Chemistry Laboratory (과학실험에서의 모델 설계 및 구현)

  • We believe that science experiments in a laboratory are essential for science education. Scientific experiments begin with situations set by selecting and locating tools and reagents. and by proper experimental behavior, and thereafter situations are changed by natural laws and intermediate experimental behavior. While scientists and students do experiments, they build a cognitive model internally, do causal reasoning on the model to derive system behavior, and then learn scientific truth. We suggest not only a representation method for a 2-dimentional model and for ontological entities necessary in causal reasoning, but also an inferencing method to derive behavior. Chemistry experiments are chosen for the implementation. For the ontological entities, we consider experimental tools, reagents and their heirarchical structures, physics and chemistry natural laws, and functional abstraction knowledge. In order to show the usefulness of our methods, we have developed a program, called ACUArtificial Chemistry Laboratory), which provides an experiment environment where students can do non-predetermined experiments, and shows experiment려 system behavior similar to what happens in the same situation in a real world and descriptions about why it happens.

Cauterizing Effect Animation for Virtual Surgery Medical Simulation (가상 수술 의료 시뮬레이션을 위한 소작 효과 애니메이션 기법)

  • Practice education using virtual medical simulation has been recently introduced to maximize the learning efficiency in clinical environment. Specially, in minimally invasive surgery, the necessity of virtual surgery medical simulation has been substantially increased. Since cauterizing effect occurred frequently in minimally invasive surgery has been represented by simple bleeding, realistic cauterizing effect animation has not been proposed yet. In this paper, we propose realistic real-time cauterizing effect animation. Proposed method changes the individual element of each vertex color of the mesh and uses sigmoid function to impose weights for the smooth color change inside the valid mesh region so that the results of cauterizing effect animation was realistic. In addition, by proposing cauterizing color buffer, overlapped cauterizing effects can be realistically represented. Proposed method greatly improves the sense of the real and absorption in virtual surgery medical simulation so that the education efficiency of doctors and students using medical simulation can be maximized.

Examining Two Causal Models Regarding High School Students' Ecological Perspective: The Role of Familiarity and Ecologistic-Naturalistic Path (고등학생들의 생태 인식에 관한 두 가지 모델 검증: 친숙함의 효과와 생태-자연적 관점 경로)

  • This study aims to examine two hypothetical models for the variables of students' environmental perspective. First hypothetical model is the mediating role of recognition and familiarity between aesthetic and negativistic perspectives. Second hypothetical model is the separate path from humanistic to dominionistic perspectives. One hundred four tenth grade students participated in this study. We used Pearson correlation, partial correlation, and path analysis to examine the fitness of hypothetical models. The findings showed that the mediating role of recognition and familiarity between aesthetic and negativistic perspectives were statistically accepted. To prevent students' bias for fancy or gross animals, the learning (for instance, recognition and familiarity) may play role in reducing the bias. Second, there were two differential paths from humanistic to dominionistic perspectives (ecologistic-naturalistic path and scientistic-utilitarian path). While ecologistic-naturalistic path does not reach dominionistic perspective, scientistic-utilitarian path does reach dominionistic perspective. To prevent students' dominionistic perspective for nature, they need to understand ecologistic-naturalistic minds for the nature.

  • 빅데이터 분석은 데이터베이스에 잘 정리된 정형 데이터뿐 아니라 인터넷, 소셜 네트워크 서비스, 모바일 환경에서 생성되는 웹 문서, 이메일, 소셜 데이터 등 비정형 데이터를 효과적으로 분석하는 기술을 말한다. 대부분의 빅데이터 분석 기술 방법들은 기존 통계학과 전산학에서 사용되던 데이터 마이닝, 기계 학습, 자연 언어 처리, 패턴 인식 등이 이에 해당된다. 글로벌 리서치 기관들은 빅데이터를 2011년 이래로 최근 가장 주목받는 신기술로 지목해오고 있다. 따라서 대부분의 산업에서 기업들은 빅데이터의 적용을 통해 가치 창출을 위한 노력을 기하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 다음 커뮤니케이션의 빅데이터 분석도구인 소셜 매트릭스를 활용하여 2017년 5월, 1개월 시점을 설정하고 "4차 산업혁명" 키워드에 대한 소비자들의 인식들을 살펴보았다. 빅데이터 분석의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 4차 산업혁명 키워드에 대한 연관 검색어 1위는 "후보"가 빈도수(7,613)인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 연관 검색어 2위는 "안철수"가 빈도수(7,297), 3위는 "문재인"이 빈도수(5,183)로 각각 나타났다. 다음으로 "4차 산업혁명" 키워드에 대한 검색어 긍정적 여론 빈도수 1위는 새로운(895)으로 나타났고, 부정적 여론 빈도수 1위는 위기(516)가 차지하였다. 이러한 결과 분석결과를 바탕으로 연구의 한계와 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.

  • '표의 일부분에 대한 해석 생성' 태스크는 표에서 사용자가 지정한 특정 칸에 대한 자연스러운 설명을 생성하는 것을 목표로 한다. 본 연구에서는 해당 문제를 언어 모델을 활용해 해결하는 데 있어 Markdown, HTML, Pandas DataFrame, JSON의 네 가지 표 문자열 형식을 비교하여 가장 효율적인 방식을 밝히고자 하였다. 또한 목표 태스크를 위한 하위 태스크로 칸 위치 인식 (HPOS), 행 정보 인식 (HROW), 열 정보 인식 (HCOL), 표 구조 재배열 (CRCR) 네 가지를 설계하고, 각 하위 태스크를 위한 합성 데이터셋을 직접 구축하여 표 인식 태스크에 필요한 중요 능력에 대한 분석을 시도했다. 실험 결과, Pandas DataFrame을 활용한 전처리 기법은 기존 베이스라인 대비 19.6%의 성능 향상을 이끌어 냈으며, 입력 토큰 수를 최소화하여 처리 비용을 줄이는 부가 효과를 제공함을 입증하였다. 또한 강조된 칸의 위치 인식(HPOS)과 행 정보 인식(HROW)이 '표의 일부분에 대한 해석' 태스크 성능 향상에 중요한 요소임을 입증하였으며, 최종적으로 본 연구에서 제안한 여러 하위 태스크를 결합하는 전략의 유효성을 확인하였다.

The Effects on the STEAM Learning Program of Intelligent Life in Elementary School (초등학교 슬기로운 생활에서 융합인재교육 프로그램의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of science academic achievement, inquiry ability, scientific attitude of students using the STEAM Learning Program. To verify about the effects of science-based STEAM program, a teaching plan and worksheet for students based on STEAM has been constructed and applied. The subjects of this program were the first grade students of both an experimental class(34 students) and a comparative class (34 students) located in Kyonggi Province. The results of this study were as follows: First, there is a significant difference in inquiry ability between two groups. STEAM Learning program accomplished higher achievement than traditional science instruction. Second, STEAM Learning program influenced science academic achievement positively. Third, there is a statistically significant effect on scientific attitude of students than traditional instruction. In conclusion, the STEAM Learning Program was useful to develop the elementary school student's inquiry ability, scientific attitude.

  • This study analyzed problem presenting and solving activities in elementary school mathematics class to enhance insights of teachers in class for providing real meaning of learning. Following research problems were selected to provide basic information for improving to sound student oriented lesson rather than teacher oriented lessons. Protocols were made based on video information of 5th grade elementary school 'Na' level figure and measurement area 3. Congruence of figures, 4. Symmetry of figures, and 6. Areas and weight. Protocols were analyzed with numbering, comment, coding and categorizing processes. This study is an qualitative exploratory research held toward three teachers of 5th grade for problem solving activities analysis in problem presenting method, opportunity to providing method to solve problems and teachers' behavior in problem solving activities. Following conclusions were obtained through this study. First, problem presenting method, opportunity providing method to solve problems and teachers' behavior in problem solving activities were categorized in various types. Second, Effective problem presenting methods for understanding in mathematics problem solving activities are making problem solving method questions or explaining contents of problems. Then the students clearly recognize problems to solve and they can conduct searches and exploratory to solve problems. At this point, the students understood fully what their assignments were and were also able to search for methods to solve the problem. Third, actual opportunity providing method for problem solving is to provide opportunity to present activities results. Then students can experience expressing what they have explored and understood during problem solving activities as well as communications with others. At this point, the students independently completed their assignments, expressed their findings and understandings in the process, and communicated with others. Fourth, in order to direct the teachers' changes in behaviors towards a positive direction, the teacher must be able to firmly establish himself or herself as a teaching figure in order to promote students' independent actions.

  • While the 7th national education curriculum is gradually proceeding, science education tries various teaching-learning method for integration in science education. The first purpose of this study is to investigate Earth Systems Education(ESE), which is approaching method to integrate science education, especially in its focus on planet Earth. Also, the second purpose is to know what the reactions of students are obtained after 'The Global Climate Game' in ESE active learning program is applied to the field. The results of this study are as follows; ESE is to propose the integrated approaching method of searching for natures and ESE teaching-learning method is to try to overcome fixed conventional teaching-learning method focus on the text book, and practical application of ESE teaching-learning method is that we can develope the student-emphasized instructional program through the discussional cooperation-teaming models, role-play instructional models. In this study, 'The Global Climate Game' found that was suitable of understanding about relating of atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere composing Earth System. Reaction of most students for ESE was showed a positive change of aspect affective region and ESE active learning program is more efficient to improve schoolwork achivement and students positive attitude toward science subject than conventional teaching-learning method. Thus if ESE active learning program is applied for a long time, the general positive attitude of students concerning science will be increased, and then the students is expected to extend the ability of application of science in their life.

Analysis of ESD-Related Content in Clothing Management Unit of Technology and Home Economics Textbooks of 2015 Revised Curriculum (2015 개정 교육과정 중학교 기술·가정 교과서 '의복관리와 재활용' 관련 내용의 지속가능발전교육(ESD) 연관성 및 탐구적 성향 분석)

  • This study aimed at analyzing the clothing management units of technology and home economics textbooks in terms of their contents related to Education for Sustainable Development(ESD). The inquisitive tendency of the textbooks was also examined adopting the modified Romey's method, because it is known as an important factor in increasing student's class participation in sustainable clothing management and inducing practical behavior. First, the learning contents of clothing management unit were analyzed according to the social/political/cultural, environmental, and economic perspectives of ESD. As a result, ESD contents from social/political/cultural perspectives (safety, and health and food), environmental perspectives (natural resources, energy, and environmental problem), and the economic perspectives (sustainable production and consumption) were identified, with a heavy focus on environmental perspective. Secondly, Romey's inquisitive content analysis method was modified to analyze texts, pictures/charts, and learning activities of the clothing management unit. In all textbooks, facts and definitions were the dominant types of contents, which means less opportunities for development of inquiry ability. In conclusion, the ESD contents of the clothing management unit are inclined to the environmental perspective, and it is necessary that textbook development would need to be balanced between three perspectives. Also, future textbook authors will need to improve the inquisitive tendency of the textbooks to encourage student participation in class and induce practical application in real life.

Development of a Family-Based Art-Science Convergence Educational Program about Biodiversity (생물다양성을 주제로 한 가족형 예술체험기반 과학융합교육 프로그램 개발)

  • The visible decline of biodiversity, today, demands a more extended role for education in dealing with diverse and complex environmental problems-not only in drawing attention to the issues, but also in encouraging participation in problem solving. This study aims to expand the role of science museums, as a creative learning space, to be more responsive to growing social demands, by attempting to develop a family-based art-science convergence educational program about biodiversity. To determine the essential learning contents needed to develop a pilot program, biodiversity-related content and convergence activity of art and science textbooks were reviewed. Then, by selecting photography as a method of artistic experiences, it developed 'Photographers fall in love with Nature', a pilot program consisting of 'invitation to questions', 'exploration', and 'creative expression', considering key stages in convergence curriculum and aesthetic experience curriculum. The developed program was applied to the classes offered three times at a university's museum of natural history over the winter vacation (January 2019). The final version of the program was developed based on the results obtained from analyzing diverse forms of data, including questionnaires, observations, and interviews, that were collected during the pilot program. Lastly, the study discusses the need to broaden the educational role of science museums to become a site for an art-science convergence learning experience, and it proposes follow-up studies for proliferation of these programs.
