  • Recently, one of the issues that are significantly considered is to keep Changwon F3 car racing. In most existing studies, however, there is shortage of opinions for understanding the reactions of the host community. The question addressed in this paper is what are the underlying factors that affect which inhibitors are likely to be discussed by the host community for car racing. Survey collected from 299 participants in Changwon city were analyzed to test their reactions. Through the empirical study, several research findings emerged. The results indicate that (1) the event seeker, the drive seeker, and the hard internal seeker were significant discriminant factors to separate inhibitors from the host community, (2) the significant differences between the recognition of demographic characteristics and that of negative effects, (3) the significant level between cluster groups(overcontrolled, resilient, undercontrolled) and negative effects is found. The findings also provide implications for practice on several fronts, which is to understand the reaction of the host community to F3 car racing, and for the event planner to reduce complaints.

  • On the basis of exploration for the effect of grade skipping and early graduation on socio-emotional adjustments of early college entrants, this study sought to present educational and counseling implications for the promotion of efficiency in practicing grade skipping and early graduation. Fifty-two students were asked to report their IQs and GPAs and to respond the Self-Esteem Inventory(Coopersmith, 1967, 1981, 1984) and the Attitude toward Schooling Scale(Lee & Lee, 2000). The data collected were analyzed by MANOVA and MANCOVA. On the contrary to concern for socio-emotional development of early entrants, the result indicated that there was not any statistically evidence to show the differences in socio-emotional adjustments between early entrants and the counterparts in the K University. However, there were significant group differences in attitude toward schooling(e,g,. the opportunities and informations for grads skipping and early graduation).

  • This study was attempted to identify differences in self-esteem and grit in adolescents depending on the type of parenting attitude. Among the Korea Children Youth Panel Survey conducted by National Youth Policy Institute, the data of 2,438 first-year middle school students in 2018 year were analyzed. The collected data were analyzed using hierarchical cluster analysis and k-mean cluster analysis. As a result, the adolescent's perceived parenting attitude was classified into four types: 'passive affection acceptance', 'active affection acceptance', 'authoritarian inconsistency', and 'lack of affection rejection'. Also, there were significant differences in self-esteem and the degree of grit among the four clusters of parenting attitudes. Both self-esteem and grit were highest in the "active affection acceptance" group 2. In the future, differentiated parental education is needed for each cluster to improve self-esteem and grit of adolescents, and this study can be used as a basic data for the development of educational programs.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between perceived parenting style and life satisfaction among adolescents transitioning from middle to high schools and to ascertain whether self-esteem functions as a mediating variable between the two aforementioned variables. Based on the results of literature review, a research model, in which there were perceived parenting style, self-esteem, and life satisfaction as latent variables, was designed. The current study analyzed the 6th and 7th wave data of the 4th grade panel of elementary school from the Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). Major results were as follows. First, perceived democratic parenting style had a significant positive effect on life satisfaction whereas controlling parenting style did not have a significant impact on life satisfaction. Second, self-esteem partially mediated the effect of perceived democratic parenting style on life satisfaction. Third, self-esteem fully mediated the effect of perceived controlling parenting style on life satisfaction. Finally, implications and recommendations were provided to improve parenting style and to enhance self-esteem of adolescents experiencing school transitions.

Descriptive statistics were used to investigate the general characteristics of the subjects, and a t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed to examine the differences in parental attitude and self-esteem according to the general characteristics of the subjects. The results showed that there is a stronger relationship for mothers between parental attitude and self-esteem perceived by children than for fathers. There were no significant differences between parental attitude and self-esteem according to the grade of the children. Among the subfactors of parental attitude, affectionate attitude and overprotective attitude were found to have a positive effect on self-esteem. Data collection was conducted from May 1, 2020 to May 20, 2020. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and a multiple regression analysis. The average score for self-esteem was 3.75±0.64(1-5), perceived stress was 2.86±0.58(1-5), emotional regulation ability was 3.43±0.65(1-5) and mental health was 1.91±0.71(1-5). Mental health had a statistically significant relationship with self-esteem(r=-.64, p<.001), emotional regulation ability(r=-.61, p<.001) and perceived stress(r=.54, p<.001). The factors affecting mental health were self-esteem(β=.46, p<.001), emotional regulation ability(β=-.37, p<.001), negative perceived stress(β=.17, p=.001) ; the explanatory power of the model was 60.0%. Therefore, it will be necessary to develop a program that can help high school students improve their self-esteem and control their negative emotions in order to promote their mental health.
