  • Vegetation and environment in natural habitats of Aster scaber and Epimedium koreanum around Chunchon was studied to eatablish agroforestry technology for high quality production of wild vegetable. The number of species within the quadrat in natural habitat of Aster scaber was respectively 20, 26, and 25 in Chunchon A, Mt. Yeonyup A, and Mt. Yeonyup B. The number of species within the quadrat in natural habitat of Epimedium koreanum was respectively 15, 32, and 26 in Chunchon B, Bukbangmyon, and Mt. Taeryong. The dominant species in habitat of Aster scaber was respectively Artemisia keiskeana, Disporun smilacinum, and Calamagrostis arundinacea in Chunchon A, Mt. Yeonyup A, and My. Yeonyup B while that in habitat of Epimedium koreanum was respectively Pteridium aquilinum. Artemisia keiskeana, and Disporun smilacinum in Chunchon B, Bukbangmyon, and Mt. Taeryong. Soil pH in habitats of Aster scaber and Epimedium koreanum ranged from 4.5 to 5.3. The contents of organic matter in habitat soil ranged from 1.5% in Chunchon A to 5.5% in Mt. Yeonyup B. The contents of ammonia-nitrogen and nitrate-nitrogen in soil were respectively 0.0043 mg/kg in habitat of Aster scaber and 0.0025mg/kg in habitat of Epimedium koreanum.

  • Meralgia paresthetica is a rare femoral disease and various symptoms appear such as pain, numbness, and paresthesia in the anterolateral thigh due to entrapment of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. We treated the meralgia paresthetica patients with Korean medicine treatment including herbal medicine, acupuncture, Chuna manual therapy and pharmacopuncture during 12 days. Numerical rating scale (NRS), Euroqol five dimension (EQ-5D) index, and the changes of symptoms were measured for assessment. After 12 days inpatient treatment, NRS decreased from 7 to 4, EQ-5D index and the symptoms of the patient also were improved. In conclusion, this case shows Korean medicine treatment might be an effective treatment for Meralgia paresthetica.

  • The purpose of this study is to report the effects of Korean medicine treatment in wrist drop patient with thoracic outlet syndrome. We treated the patient for 8 days using Korean medicine treatment such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, Chuna manual therapy and pharmacopuncture. Changes in the numerical rating scale (NRS), EuroQol five dimension (EQ-5D) index, and symptoms were measured for assessment. After 8 days hospitalization, NRS decreased from 5 to 3, EQ-5D index and the symptoms of the patient also were improved. In conclusion, this case shows that Korean medicine treatment can be an effective treatment for wrist drop with thoracic outlet syndrome.

  • The purpose of this study is to report the effects of Korean medicine treatment in baastrup's disease. We treated the patient for 34 days using Korean medicine treatment such as acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, Chuna manual therapy and help motion style acupuncture treatment. Numerical rating scale (NRS), EuroQol five dimension (EQ-5D) index, Oswestry disability index (ODI), and lumbar range of motion (ROM) were used as evaluation tools for the state. NRS decrease from 5 to 3, and EQ-5D index, ODI, L-spine ROM were improved by the treatment. In conclusion, this case study shows that Korean medicine treatment can be effective for baastrup's disease.

  • In this study we investigated the natural habitats of Allium grayi, Allium monanthum, Allium tuberosum' and Allium schoenoprasmum to develop a fundamental database for their breeding and cultivation. Both Allium grayi and Allium monanthum were growing wild mainly in the areas with the altitude of ${\leq}\;300\;m$. The natural habitats of Allium grayi and Allium monanthum were limited to the altitude of 1,000 and 800 m, respectively. Allium thunbergii was growing at a wide range of altitude from the lowlands (${\geq}\;100\;m$) to the high elevated areas (${\leq}\;1,000\;m$) whereas Allium maximowiczii was growing wild only at the high altitude of ${\geq}\;900\;m$. The number and the size of the natural habitat of Allium grayi were greater than those of Allium monanthum. The natural habitats of Allium grayi were in the Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang Provinces whereas those of Allium monanthum were found mainly in the Chungcheong and Jeju Provinces. Allium grayi was growing wild in both inland and seaside districts whereas Allium monanthum was mainly in the inland areas.

  • This study was carried out to develop the breeding and/or cultivation materials by investigating characteristics of natural habitats of Allium monanthum in South Korea. Natural habitats of sunny, half-shady, and shady conditions were 13 (10.7%), 66 (54.6%), and 42 (34.7%), respectively. Natural habitats were located around upland (45.4%), around Buddhist temple area (28.1%), on mountain area (18.2%), along roadside (2.5%), and along riverside (5.8%), respectively. Natural habitats ranged widely in all areas of Korea by $33^{\circ}N{\sim}38^{\circ}N$ and $126^{\circ}E{\sim}129^{\circ}E$. In Chungbuk and Gyeongbuk natural habitats were more than in Jeonbuk and Jeonnam. Distribute pattern were formed densely. Sprout stage was from September till March of next year. Grew from March to April, and there was no plant formed flower stalk in natural habitats.

  • Objectives: This study investigated the efficacy of Korean medical treatment for a headache (suspected CPSP) patient with a history of cerebral infarction. Methods: We treated the patient using Korean medical treatments (herbal medicines-Kamiseokyong-tang, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and chuna). The treatments were measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) and the Neck Disability Index (NDI) for headache and post neck pain. General health status was evaluated using the European Quality of Life Five Dimensions (EQ-5d) Scale. Results: We observed improvements in the NRS, NDI, and EQ-5d scores after the treatments. Conclusions: This study suggests that Korean medicine may effectively treat headaches (suspected CPSP) with accompanying cerebral infarction.
