자색 콜라비 가식부와 껍질 에탄올 추출물의 항산화 활성 및 암세포 증식 억제효과 (Effects of Purple Kohlrabi (Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes) Flesh and Peel Ethanol Extracts on the Antioxidant Activity and Antiproliferation of Human Cancer Cells)

  • This study examines the effects of purple Kohlrabi fresh and peel ethanol extracts on the antioxidative activity and antiproliferation of human cancer cells (Hep G2 human liver, HCT-116 human colon, and A549 human lung cancer cells.) The total flavonoid and anthocyanin content of purple Kohlrabi ethanol extracts were much greater in the peel than in the flesh. The DPPH radical scavenging activity and antioxidative index of purple Kohlrabi peel extracts were similar to those of the BHA and the BHT. Antiproliferation effects of purple Kohlrabi peel extracts on human cancer cells (Hep G2, HCT-116, and A549) strengthened in a dose-dependent manner. In particular, the antiproliferation activity of purple Kohlrabi peel extracts exceeded 40% in colon cancer cells. These results indicate that the purple Kohlrabi peel may contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids as well as anthocyanin and that these compounds may facilitate cancer prevention.

콩콰 싸리속 귀화식물 2종: 자주비수리와 큰잎싸리 (Two naturalized plants of Lespedeza (Leguminosae) in Korea: L. lichiyuniae & L. davidii)

  • 최근 국내에서 2종의 싸리속(Lespedeza) 귀화식물을 발견하여 보고한다. 자주비수리(L. lichiyuniae)는 비수리(L. cuneata) 및 땅비수리(L. juncea)와 형태적으로 유사하지만, 꽃이 분홍 또는 홍자색이고 잎 뒷면과 폐쇄화 열매에 털이 밀생하는 점에서 구분된다. 한편 큰잎싸리(L. davidii)는 큰 소엽을 갖는 특징에 의해 국내 싸리속의 다른 종들과 구별되며, 같은 목본성 싸리아속 식물들로부터는 식물체 전체에 연모가 밀생하는 특징으로 식별된다. 국내에서 이 두 종은 새로 조성된 공원이나 도로변에서 발견된다.

열화데이터를 이용한 자색 연막수류탄(KM18)의 저장수명 평가 (Storage Life Evaluation of a Violet Smoke Hand Grenade(KM18) using Degradation Data)

  • A violet smoke hand grenade(KM18) is used to generate signals. The grenade is considered to fail when its smoke emission time is longer than the specified one so that its smoke concentration becomes lighter. Accelerated degradation test for the grenade was performed, and then failure in smoke emission time was reproduced from the test. Stress for the degradation test was selected as temperature/humidity from the pre-test results. Degraded data of emission time from the accelerated test were analyzed through applying a distibution-based degradation model. Then, Peck Model was applied to predict the storage life under field conditions. In addition, the predicted storage life was compared with that of ASRP(Ammunition Stockpile Reliability Program).

수도유묘엽초색의 초기잡종세대에서의 표현 II. 주요품종들의 검정종에 대한 반응과 C,A유전자의 분포 (Display of Rice Leaf Base Colour in Early Hybrid Generations II. Distribution of C,A Complementary Genes in the Leading Cultivars)

  • 한국의 주요품종들이 가지고 있는 엽초자색의 발현에 관여하는 보족유전자 C 및 A유전자의 분포를 조사하기 위하여 한국의 현재 및 과거장려품종과 약간의 도입품종 합계 60품종을 네가지 검정종(0군=Furisaka#5, C군=T(N)1, A군=7089 및 CP-SLO, CA군=BPI-76)과 교배하여 그 F$_1$의 발색을 조사하였다. 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 현장려품종들은 C 및 A검정종에 모두 반응이 없는 O군과 C검정종에만 반응하는 A군으로 분명히 나눌 수 있었다. Japonica 모본으로 육성된 품종들은 전자에, Indica모본으로 육성된 품종들은 후자에 속한다. 2. 과거장려품종들은 대부분이 O군에 속하며 A검정종에 대하여 반응을 나타내는 C군품종이 극소수있었고(수원118호, 수원8002) A품종군에 속하는 것은 없었다. 3. 일본에서 도입된 품종들도 대체로 한국에서 육성된 품종들과 같이 대부분이 O군에 속하여 극소수의 C군품종이 있었을 뿐 A군품종은 없었다. 4. 과거의 찰품종도 메품종과 같이 대부분이 O군에, 그리고 극소수가 C군에 속하며 A군품종은 없었다.

자색고구마 Anthocyanin 색소의 추출조건 결정 (Determination of the Conditions for Anthocyanin Extraction from Purple-Flashed Sweet Potato)

  • To establish the optimum conditions for the extraction of anthocyanin pigment from purple-fleshed sweet potato, a suitable extraction solvent with the optimum citric acid concentration for acidification of the solvent, and the optimum extraction time and temperature were determined. Twenty percent ethanol solution acidified with citric acid was found to be a good solvent for the extraction of the pigment from purple-fleshed sweet potato. About 10 hour extraction at room temperature was appropriate for the extraction. pH of the extract was below 3 when more than 0.7% citric acid was added. The higher the concentration of citric acid added was, the higher the total optical density (TOD) of the extract was. However, the increase in TOD of the extract was insignificant when more than 1% of citric acid was added. Therefore, addition of 1% citric acid was determined for acidification of the extracting solvent. Though the initial rate of the pigment extraction increased as the extracting temperature increased, extraction at higher temperatures of 60 or 8$0^{\circ}C$ for an extended time caused a decrease in the extraction yield due to degradation of the pigment. The optimum extraction temperature for the anthocyanin pigment from purple-fleshed sweet potato with the solvent used was determined as 4$0^{\circ}C$.

자색당근 분말 첨가 쿠키의 품질특성 및 항산화활성 (Quality Characteristics and Antioxidant Activity of Cookies Made with Black Carrot Powder)

  • This study assessed the quality characteristics of cookies made with different amounts (0, 5, 10, 15%) of black carrot powder. The density and pH value of cookie dough were constant for all groups. Compared to the control group, the moisture content was higher in groups containing the black carrot powder. Increasing the amount of black carrot powder resulted in decreased L-value but increased a-value. Furthermore, the hardness of cookies increased with increasing amounts of black carrot powder. The consumer acceptance test revealed that up to 15% black carrot powder addition was desirable. Total phenol content of the control group was 24.0 mg GAE/100 g, while black carrot powder groups ranged from 45.5 to 103.5 mg GAE/100 g. The DPPH radical scavenging activity was also augmented with increasing volumes of black carrot powder. Taken together, we recommend that cookies with 15% black carrot powder are desirable in terms of overall acceptability and antioxidant activity.

자색고구마가루를 첨가한 아몬드다식의 품질 특성 (Quality Characteristics of Almond Dasik with Added Purple Sweet Potato Powder)

  • The objective of this study was to assess the quality characteristics of almond Dasik prepared with the addition of purple sweet potato powder (PSPP). Five different levels (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20%) of PSPP were added and the physicochemical properties of the Dasik were examined. Crude protein and crude fat contents decreased as the level of PSPP increased (p<0.05). The Hunter L-value decreased while the a-value increased as the PSPP level increased. Texture measurements showed that the addition of PSPP increased hardness, cohesiveness, and brittleness. Total polyphenol content and antioxidant activity were assessed in terms of estimating the functionality of the Dasik. The results showed that incorporating PSPP into the Dasik provided higher polyphenol content and antioxidant activity compared to the control Dasik (p<0.05). The results of a consumer acceptance test revealed that the Dasik sample made with 15% PSPP was most preferred and the 20% sample was the least preferred. Therefore, it is suggested that purple sweet potato powder can be incorporated into Dasik up to 15% without reducing its quality.

자색고구마가 사염화탄소 투여에 의한 흰쥐의 간손상 보호에 미치는 영향 (Pretective Effect of Purple Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas) on Hepatotoxicity Rats Induced by Carbon Tetrachlolide)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary purple sweet potato(Ipomoea batatas) powder on serum lipid levels and antioxidative enzymes in normal and pretective effect on hepatotoxicity rats induced by carbon tetrachlolide. Four groups of rats (3-week-old inbred Sprague-Dawley male rats) were normal rats fed control diet(C), induced hepatotoxicity rats fed control diet(EC), normal rats fed purple sweet potato diet(P), and induced hepatotoxicity rats fed purple potato sweet diet(EP). Rats were induced by single injection of 50% carbon tetrachlolide(0.1 mL/100 g B.W., i.p.). The rats were fed ad libitum each of the experimental diet for 5 weeks. After 5 weeks the rats were sacrificed and activities of antioxidant enzymes and lipid peroxidation products were determined in their liver homogenates. But serum concentrations of lipid was not significant in all groups. Serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT/GPT) and aspartate aminotransferase(AST/GOT) of the EC and EP groups were heigher than the C and P groups. The hepatic glucose 6-phosphatase(G6Pase) activity of the group fed purple potato diet(P) was lower than the other groups(p<0.05). However, The glutathione peroxidase(GPx) activities was not statistically different between the groups. Renal glutathione S-transferase(GST) activity of the EC and EP groups were lower than the C and P groups(p<0.05). In conclusion, these results suggest that purple sweet potato is believed to be possible protective effect on hepatotoxicity rats induced by carbon tetrachlolide.

  • Anthocyanins, a class of flavonoids, are natural water-soluble pigments, which are mainly found in vegetables and fruits. Anthocyanins have attractive pharmacological activities, such as anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and anti-diabetic. The purpose of this study was to investigate the protective effects of anthocyanins-rich fraction (ANF) from Korean purple sweet potato variety, "Shinjami", against hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$)-induced oxidative stress. In our results, pre-treatment of HepG2 cells with ANF ($10{\mu}g/mL$) significantly prevented cell death and maintained cell integrity, following exposure to 0.9 mM hydrogen peroxide. The $H_2O_2$-dependent production of intracellular ROS was also significantly decreased by pre-treatment with ANF (6 h, $10{\mu}g/mL$). In addition, ANF increased the mRNA levels of antioxidant enzymes, catalase and glutathione level in $H_2O_2$-treated HepG2 cells. These results indicated that ANF protected HepG2 cells against $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative stress by inducing protective system.

고려인삼과 미국삼의 종간잡종으로부터 재분화된 식물체의 특성 (Characteristics of Plantlets Redifferentiated from F1 Hybrid between Panax ginseng and Panax quinquefolius)

  • 교잡 1세대의 화서조직에서 재분화된 F1 유식물체는 고려인삼 유식물체에 비하여 지상부와 지하부 생육이 모두 양호하였으며, 줄기 색도 고려인삼 재분화 식물체의 줄기에 비하여 자색을 강하게 띄었으며 잎의 색도 진한 녹색을 나타내었다. 천풍, 연풍, 선원 등의 고려인삼의 품종 내에서는 Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS)영역의 DNA PCR 패턴간에 차이점이 나타나지 않았으나, 고려인삼과 미국인삼은 각기 다른 PCR 패턴을 보였으며, 고려인삼과 미국인삼간의 교잡 1세대는 고려인삼과 미국인삼에 나타나는 고유한 PCR패턴을 모두 나타내었다. 교잡 1세대에서 유기한 캘러스와 재분화식물체는 조직배양 모본인 교잡 1세대와 동일한 PCR 패턴을 보임에 따라 교잡 1세대의 조직배양체는 ribosomal DNA의 ITS영역에서 유전적인 안정성을 나타내는 것으로 확인되었다.
