Difficulty in equilibrium and fainting spells are more common somatic complaints of co-diagnosis states of anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. Comparing 3 domains of pain symptoms, gastrointestinal symptoms and pseudo-neurological symptoms, pain symptom domains, gastrointestinal symptoms domain shows significant statistic difference between diagnosis. Average somatic symptom numbers of each symptom domains increase through suicidal idealization, plan and attempt, accordingly. • This study aimed to evaluate the relationship of ADHD, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, impulsivity, suicide idea and quality of life as well as burnout of kindergarten teachers for the first time in Korea. Also, it examined the odds ratio with ADHD, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, impulsivity, suicide idea and quality of life between burnout group and the comparison group through logistic regression analysis. A set of questionnaires was provided to a total of 310 participants (80 with higher burnout risk and 230 without burnout risk) from April 2015 to July 2015. All of participants were evaluated using the Korean Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Scales, Beck's Depression Inventory, Beck's Anxiety Inventory, Baratte' Impulsivity Scale, Rosenberg's Self-esteem Inventory and Qulity of Life Scale. The results of this study indicated that burnout risk group is related to ADHD and anxiety and impulsivity. For the treatment of burnout in kindergarten teachers, effective evaluation and treatment of ADHD and impulsivity, as well as anxiety, seem to be necessary.

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to investigate differences in psychological characteristics between major depressive disorder (MDD) patients with and without suicide attempt using MMPI-2-RF. Methods : Subjects were 107 MDD patients who had visited the department of psychiatry of hallym university hospital and met the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria of MDD by the korean version of MINI-Plus 5.0.0. The patients were divided into suicidal attempters (n=43) and non-suicidal attempters (n=64) using C-SSRS. The one-way ANOVA was used to compare MMPI-2-RF scale scores between two groups. Additionally, ANCOVA was conducted considering the severity of depressive symptom and comorbidity as covariate. Results : Our results showed that Suicide/Death Ideation (SUI), Inefficacy (NFC) and Interpersonal Passivity (IPP) scales were significantly higher in the MDD patients with suicidal attempt compared to MDD patients without suicidal attempt (p<0.05). However, after controlling for the severity of depressive symptom and comorbidity, SUI scale showed a significant tendency (p<0.10). Conclusions : The result suggests that MMPI-2-RF scales could be a useful tool for identifying patients transitioning to actual suicidal attempts in the moderate or severe major depressive disorder group. Limitations of this study and directions for further research are also discussed.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to assess the possible association of dental pain with suicidal ideation among adolescents by analysing data from the 2018 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Survey, a nationwide online survey. Methods : Of 62,823 adolescent middle and high school students in Korea, 60,040 participants were selected for analysis, after excluding cases with missing values. Participants were given a questionnaire about their self-evaluation of health including dental pain and suicidal ideation. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated the relationships between dental pain and suicidal ideation after controlling for potential confounding factors. Results : The proportion of Korean adolescents reporting suicidal ideation was 13.3%. The proportion of adolescents who experienced dental pain was 23.4%. Compared to adolescents who did not report dental pain, adolescents who reported experiencing dental pain were significantly more likely to experience suicidal ideation (OR=1.94, p<0.001). In two multivariate models, the relationships between dental pain and suicidal ideation (AOR=1.24, p<0.001) were statistically significant. Conclusions : Dental pain was associated with increased risk of suicidal ideation among Korean adolescents, even when controlling for sociodemographic factors and other health conditions. It is necessary to consider screening adolescent patients who present with dental pain for suicidal ideation.

As a result of the study, first, the more individual and social discrimination experiences, which are sub-factors of the elderly discrimination experience, increased suicidal ideation. Second, individual discrimination experiences were found to has a static effect on suicidal ideation through partial mediation of sense of loss. Third, the experience of social discrimination showed a static effect on suicidal ideation by perfect mediating the sense of loss. Therefore, it was found that the sense of loss acts as a risk factor for the elderly's suicidal ideation. Based on the research results, the urgent need for institutional supplementation to prevent the elderly's social discrimination experiences was suggested, and practical implications for preventing elderly suicide by resolving the sense of loss in the elderly welfare practice field were suggested.
