Longitudinal Study on Factors Affecting Older Adults' Welfare Service Utilization (노인의 노인복지서비스 이용경험에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 종단연구 -서울과 춘천 노인들을 중심으로)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the transition of elderly's welfare service utilization and to examine the factors affecting their utilization as time passed. To solve these research questions, the behavioral model presented by Andersen and Newman(1973) was applied. Using Hallym Aging Panel data consisted of 3 waves from 2003 to 2007, autoregressive modeling and regression analysis were applied for research purposes. The results of this study were as follows; (1) The experiences of welfare service utilization were increasing gradually. The complimentary service for the aged was utilized generally, but leisure service and community service were not used in common. (2) Past experience of service affected service utilization in the following times. (3) The factors affecting older adult's service utilization were different among the types of services. Nonetheless, the factors affecting continuously during the periods were found: age as predisposing factor and area as enabling factor in the complimentary service; area and existence of spouse as enabling factor in leisure service; education as predisposing factor and service cognition as enabling factor in community service. Enabling factor has affected more consistently than other factors. The results showed that special attention should be paid to balanced regional arrangement for welfare resources and the public relation considering the elderly's intellectual level.

Circularity of the Program Development Activities: Empirical Investigation in the Social Service Agencies in Korea (사회복지기관에서 프로그램 개발의 순환적인 활동에 대한 실증적 연구: 수용, 개발, 전파를 중심으로)

  • Despite the rapidly increased concern on the circularity of the program development activities in the social service agencies, there are only a few studies about the phenomena. This study is to describe the characteristics of program development in the process of adopting, developing, and disseminating the social programs and to figure out the factors influencing differences in the 3 activities in social service agencies. The researchers constructed an explanative model including each 12-13 independent variables with 3 consecutive dependent variables on the basis of reviewing the related literatures. A multiple regression analysis was applied to predict the features of the program development using 195 questionaries responded from social workers in community service centers. As the result of the descriptive analysis, the two noticeable features are found; (1) the agencies have very actively adopted outside programs, developed appropriate programs for the agency, and disseminated the programs into other agencies in the community. (2) there are some positive aspects of the factors in related to the process of the program development. The results of the regression analysis show that the three dependent variables of the adoption, development, and dissemination are very closely interconnected with each others, showing the evidence of the circularity in the agencies. In addition, the 5 independent variables at the value of p .01 are statistically related with the circularity of the three dependent activities. The implication of major findings were discussed in academic and practical perspectives in Korea, including future research works in the area.

Analysis of the Association between Teacher Relationship, Peer Relationship, and Multicultural Acceptability among Adolescents in Korea: Using Latent Growth Modeling (교우관계와 교사관계가 청소년의 다문화수용성에 미치는 영향에 대한 분석: 다변량 잠재성장모형의 적용)

  • In this study, we examined the longitudinal change of multicultural acceptability, peer relationship, and teacher relationship using latent growth curve modeling. This study used data from the second, third, and fourth waves of the middle school student cohort (N=2,178) of the Korean Children-Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). The dependent variable was multicultural acceptability. The independent variables were peer relationship and teacher relationship. The major longitudinal findings of this study are as follows: First, peer relationships, teacher relationships and multicultural acceptability increased with time. Second, peer relationship showed a significant effect on the multicultural acceptability over time. Finally, the teacher relationship showed a significant effect on the multicultural acceptability over time. These results show differentiation with previous cross-sectional studies of multicultural acceptability. Furthermore, it is expected that this study will provide educational implications for the cultivation of multicultural acceptability.

A Simulation of a Small Mountainous Chachment in Gyeoungbuk Using the RAMMS Model (RAMMS 모형을 이용한 경북 소규모 산지 유역의 토석류 모의)

  • In Korea, mountainous areas cover 60% of the land, leading to increased factors such as concentrated heavy rainfall and typhoons, which can result in debris flow and landslide. Despite the high risk of disasters like landslides and debris flow, there has been a tendency in most regions to focus more on post-damage recovery rather than preventing damage. Therefore, in this study, precise topographic data was constructed by conducting on-site surveys and drone measurements in areas where debris flow actually occurred, to analyze the risk zones for such events. The numerical analysis program RAMMS model was utilized to perform debris flow analysis on the areas prone to debris flow, and the actual distribution of debris flow was compared and analyzed to evaluate the applicability of the model. As a result, the debris flow generation area calculated by the RAMMS model was found to be 18% larger than the actual area, and the travel distance was estimated to be 10% smaller. However, the simulated shape of debris flow generation and the path of movement calculated by the model closely resembled the actual data. In the future, we aim to conduct additional research, including model verification suitable for domestic conditions and the selection of areas for damage prediction through debris flow analysis in unmeasured watersheds.

A Study on the Perception and Experience of Daejeon Public Library Users Using Text Mining: Focusing on SNS and Online News Articles (텍스트마이닝을 활용한 대전시 공공도서관 이용자의 인식과 경험 연구 - SNS와 온라인 뉴스 기사를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was conducted to examine the user's experiences with the public library in Daejeon using big data analysis, focusing on the text mining technique. To know this, first, the overall evaluation and perception of users about the public library in Daejeon were explored by collecting data on social media. Second, through analysis using online news articles, the pending issues that are being discussed socially were identified. As a result of the analysis, the proportion of users with children was first high. Next, it was found that topics through LDA analysis appeared in four categories: 'cultural event/program', 'data use', 'physical environment and facilities', and 'library service'. Finally, it was confirmed that keywords for the additional construction of libraries and complex cultural spaces and the establishment of a library cooperation system appeared at the core in the news article data. Based on this, it was proposed to build a library in consideration of regional balance and to create a social parenting community network through business agreements with childcare and childcare institutions. This will contribute to identifying the policy and social trends of public libraries in Daejeon and implementing data-based public library operations that reflect local community demands.

Trends identification of species distribution modeling study in Korea using text-mining technique (텍스트마이닝을 활용한 종분포모형의 국내 연구 동향 파악)

  • Species distribution model (SDM) is used to preserve biodiversity and climate change impact. To evaluate biodiversity, various studies are being conducted to utilize and apply SDM. However, there is insufficient research to provide useful information by identifying the current status and recent trends of SDM research and discussing implications for future research. This study analyzed the trends and flow of academic papers, in the use of SDM, published in academic journals in South Korea and provides basic information that can be used for related research in the future. The current state and trends of SDM research were presented using philological methods and text-mining. The papers on SDM have been published 148 times between 1998 and 2023 with 115 (77.7%) papers published since 2015. MaxEnt model was the most widely used, and plant was the main target species. Most of the publications were related to species distribution and evaluation, and climate change. In text mining, the term 'Climate change' emerged as the most frequent keyword and most studies seem to consider biodiversity changes caused by climate change as a topic. In the future, the use of SDM requires several considerations such as selecting the models that are most suitable for various conditions, ensemble models, development of quantitative input variables, and improving the collection system of field survey data. Promoting these methods could help SDM serve as valuable scientific tools for addressing national policy issues like biodiversity conservation and climate change.

Development of Content System in Practical Problem-Based Home Economics Global Citizenship Education Program for Elementary School Students (실천적 문제 중심 프로그램 개발 과정에 따른 초등 가정과 세계시민교육 내용체계 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the global citizenship education program content system in the context of the 2022 revised home economics curriculum, recognizing the need for global citizenship education. The study is grounded in practical problem-based program. In the analysis stage, the educational trend requiring global citizenship education in the national curriculum was elucidated by analyzing the 2022 revised curriculum documents and future education documents related to global citizenship education. A framework for global citizenship education goals within home economics curriculum was designed. Accordingly, the educational goal of this curriculum, "Cultivation of family competencies linked to global citizenship competencies," was established by posing the perennial question, "As a global citizen, what actions should I take for sustainable choices related to the living environment?" In the design stage, four key ideas in the "Living Environment and Sustainable Choices" domain of the 2022 revised home economics curriculum for elementary school were analyzed to derive practical problems. In the development stage, content elements were derived based on four criteria. This study is significant in analyzing the need for global citizenship education within home economics context by analyzing documents related to global citizenship competencies for the future and examining the 2022 revised curriculum's general framework and home economics education curriculum.

The Usability Evaluation of Kiosks for Individuals with Low Vision (저시력 시각장애인의 키오스크 사용성 평가 연구)

  • In the rapid digital transformation era, kiosks have become a common element in daily life. However, their widespread deployment has introduced new challenges for socially marginalized groups, including individuals with disabilities and the elderly. This study aims to evaluate the usability of kiosks for individuals with low vision and propose improvement strategies. The study was conducted with eight low-vision university students from A University in Gyeongsangbuk-do and four non-disabled university students from Daegu. Usability was assessed through experiments involving a self-service certificate issuance kiosk and a fast-food restaurant kiosk, using Jakob Nielsen's five usability evaluation criteria: learnability, efficiency, memorability, error prevention, and satisfaction. The results revealed that individuals with low vision faced significant difficulties with small text size, low contrast, no physical buttons, and lack of screen zoom functionality. To address these issues, the study recommends enhancements such as increasing text size and contrast, incorporating physical buttons, adding zoom functionality, ensuring consistent UI design, and providing auditory feedback. This study provides foundational data for enhancing information accessibility for individuals with low vision. It offers critical insights into kiosk design and policy recommendations, thereby contributing to the mitigation of the digital divide.

Spatial Distribution Patterns and Planar Geometric Characteristics of Vegetated Bars in the Naesungcheon Stream (내성천 식생사주의 공간적 분포 유형과 평면 기하 특성)

  • This study classified spatial distribution patterns of vegetated bars in the Naesungcheon Stream, defined universally applicable planar geometric variables, and quantified characteristics of dominant vegetated bar distribution forms. The analysis identified four primary types of spatial distribution, with two types (vegetated alternate/point bars and vegetated floodplains with single or multi-vegetated bars) accounting for more than 90% of the study area. Study results indicated that relatively large vegetated bars tended to be widely spaced or distributed in combination with multiple smaller vegetated bars that were overlapped in the Naesungcheon stream. Quantified spatial distribution characteristics of vegetated bars derived from this study could be used as essential basis information for vegetation management in rivers similar to the Naesungcheon Stream. Additionally, analysis results for planar geometric variables and spatial distribution forms are expected to facilitate experimental designs that mimic river conditions in flood management and ecohydraulic studies, contributing to the interpretation of complex characteristics of interactions between vegetated bars, flow, and bed changes.

Analysis of Research Trends in The Journal of Engineering Geology (1991-2024): Latent Dirichlet Allocation and Network Analysis ("지질공학"(1991-2024)의 연구동향 분석: 잠재 디리클레 할당 및 네트워크 분석)

  • The Journal of Engineering Geology (JEG), a leading academic journal in the field of engineering geology in South Korea, was first published in 1991 and has since been publishing academic papers and research findings. While several literature reviews have been undertaken on specific research areas in recent decades, comprehensive reviews focusing on JEG have been relatively limited. To address this gap, this study applied the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) model to analyze the main research topics and trends, and undertook network analysis to identify relationships between topics over different periods. Results for the LDA indicate seven key research topics categorized into three trends: Classic, Emerging and Stable topics. Classic topics include 'Geophysics' and 'Structural geology', which were major subjects in the early years, with their focus shifting to other areas over time. Emerging topics such as 'Hydrogeology' and 'Geohazards' have gained prominence in recent years. Stable topics including 'Geotechnical structures', 'Geomechanics', and 'Environmental geology' have maintained consistent research interest. Network analysis revealed that Structural geology was the central topic prior to 2008, while Geotechnical structures became the focal point of research after 2008, with a shift in research focus. The results of this study contribute to our understanding of research trends and the development of JEG, providing insights for the setting of future research directions.
