  • Magnetic nanocomposites contained iron oxide were synthesized by through cross-linking polymerization of dimethylacetamide (DMAc) solution and toluen solution on the amphiphilic polymer networks based on urethan acrylate nonionomer (UAN) precursor chains. For the study on microscopic structures and magnetic properties of the magnetic nanoparticles, FESEM and XRD and Mossbauer spectroscopy were used. The results investigated show that there are magnetic nanoparticles of $Fe_2O_3$ in samples and the magnetic nanocomposites contained iron oxide in polymer networks of UAN using DMAc solution are more smaller than using toluen solution. All of the Fe ions in the samples present $Fe^{3+}$ and the magnetic property of samples are paramagnetic by superparamagnetic effect at room temperature.

  • The relationships between R-H curves of gaint magnetoresistance (GMR) spin valve trilayer films and M-H curves of each magnetic layer consisting of the trilayer films were analyzed and simple formula representing the relations between the curves were suggested for theoretical analysis and study of magnetoresistance (MR) in those films, especially where the MR is from the difference of coercivity. Using two kinds of NiFe/Cu/Co films, which had been deposited on Cu(50 $\AA$)/Si(111, 4$^{\circ}$ tilt-cut) and Cu(50 $\AA$)/glass, R-H and M-H curves were measured and compared with the calculated ones, which were obtained by appying the M-H curves of single NiFe and Co films, deposited on the same substrates, to the previously reported single-domain and multi-domain models. The calcuated ones were well consistent with the measured ones and the suggested simple relationships between R-H and M-H curves are thought to be very useful for the deep understanding of MR behavior and the reasonable approach to improve MR properties in GMR spin valve trilayer films.

  • Lilium cernum Komarvo. is an important endangered plant belonging to the family Liliaceae. A method was developed for the rapid micropropagation of L. cernum through plant regeneration from bulb scales explant-derived calli. The bulb scales segments were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 0, 0.5, 1.0, $3.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ kinetin and 0, 0.1, 0.5, $1.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA or 2,4-D for callus induction. In media with $0.5{\sim}3.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ kinetin and $0.1{\sim}1.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA and 2,4-D, 95~100% of explants produced callus. They were then transferred to MS medium supplemented with various concentrations of NAA (0, 0.01, 0.05 and $1.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) in combination with BA (0, 1.0 and $2.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) for bulbet formation. Bulbet induction (78%), weight (468 mg) and size (15.5 mm) were obtained the highest on MS medium containing $2.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BA and $1.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA. In vitro frequency of plant regeneration was not significantly treated in strength of MS and sucrose concentration. Chlorophyll contents in 1/2MS with $50g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ sucrose treatments were higher than those in control and another treatment. This in vitro propagation protocol will be useful for conservation and mass propagation of this endangered plant.

  • In order to investigate the origin of the asymmetric magnetization reversal effect, we studied the variation of magnetic hysteresis loops with the alloy composition in amorphous ferromagnetic alloy ribbons of ${(Fe_{1-x}Co_{x})}_{75}Si_{10}B_{15}$ system annealed at $380^{\circ}C$ for 16 hours in a zero field condition. The asymmetric magnetization reversal effect developed more strongly in amorphous ribbons having two metallic components than in ribbons having a single metallic component. The effect developed more strongly in ribbons showing a smaller value of the saturation mag¬netostriction. The development of the asymmetric magnetization reversal effect was affected by the ratio of two metallic components as well as the magnitude of the saturation magnetostriction.

  • Dependence of magnetoresistance on base pressure and deposition rates of each Fe, Co, Cu layers in the $Fe(50{\AA}/[Co(17{\AA})/Cu(24{\AA})]_20$ multilayer thin films, prepared by dc magnetron sputtering on Corning glass, were investigated. AFM analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer analysis, and magnetoresustance measurement (4-probe method) were performed. The multilayer films deposited under low base pressure increases magnetoresistance ratio by preventing oxidation. Annealing for the samples at a moderate temperature allowed larger textured grain with no loss in the periodicity. Magnetoresistance ratio of the annealed multilayers was increased due to the increase antiferromagnetically coupled fraction of the film after annealing. Optimization of deposition rate was greater than 1 $\AA$/s for Fe, and 2.8 $\AA$/s for Cu. Deposition rate of Co showed a tendency of increasing of magnetoresistance ratio due to the formation of flat magnetic layer in case of high deposition rate of Co.

  • This experiments were conducted to determine the effect of thidiazuron on forming tuberlets and plant regeneration of Pinellia ternata T. by tissue culture. The addition of $5\;{\mu}M$ TDZ to the medium had better regeneration than that of any other treatments of NAA and TDZ. At the combination treatments of NAA and TDZ, as the level of thidiazuron increased, the rate of shoot regeneration was incresed while the increment of NAA concentration inhibited the rate of shoot regeneration. The supplement of $5\;{\mu}M$ thidiazuron produced the best number of micro-tubers per explant and the number of micro-tuber formed was 25 in MS medium and 29 in MG medium on 30 day culture, respectively. Microtuber formation was the best on MG medium with 1.0 mg/l NAA and $5\;{\mu}M$ thidiazuron. MG medium was superior to MS and B5 medium for the growth of tuberlets. Half strength of MS medium with NAA 2 mg/l was the most effective for root formation. Rooting ability on nursery soil of plantlets produced in in vjtro was good as a 80% after 3 weeks.

  • The holes with a diameter of $35{\mu}m$ inside the GMR-SV (giant magnetoresistance-spin valve) film were patterned by using the photolithography process and ECR (electron cyclotron resonance) Ar-ion milling. From the magnetoresistance curves of the GMR-SV film with holes measuring by 4-electrode method, the MR (magnetoresistance ratio) and MS (magnetic sensitivity) are almost same as the values of initial states. On other side hand, the $H_{ex}$ (exchange bias coupling field) and $H_c$ (coercivity) dominantly increased from 120 Oe and 10 Oe to 190 Oe and 41 Oe as increment of the number of holes inside GMR-SV film respectively. These results were shown to be attributed to major effect of EMD (easy magnetic domian) having a region positioned between two holes perpendicular to the sensing current. On the basis of this study, the fabrication of GMR-SV applying to the hole formation improved the magnetoresistance properties having the thermal stability and durability of bio-device.

  • An efficient system for in vitro bulblet formation of Lilium oriental hybrids(cvs). Casa Blanca and Siberia is described. Transverse thin cell layer(tTCL)(1mm thick) explants of 'Casa Blanca' formed bulblets at a frequency of 97.7% when cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1mg/L 2,4 dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D) (On average 15.6 bulblets were formed per explant). The frequency of bulblet formation was drastically reduced when the explant ghickness was thinner than 1 mm. Explants from the outermost layer of bulb scale produced greater frequency of bulblet formation than middle or innermost layer. Among auxins supplemented to culture medium at 1 mg/L, 2,4-D led to greater frequency of bulblet formation on explants than dicamba, picamba, or phenylacetic acid(PAA). tTCL explants from the middle region of the outermost layer bulb scale yielded greater frequency of bulblet formation than the upper or lower region. tTCL stem explants of 'Siberia' formed bulblets at a frequency of 95.3% when cultured on MS medium with 1 mg/L 2,4-D(On average 9.1 bulblets were formed per explant). The system estabilished in this study will be useful for in vitro rapid propagation and genetic transformation of Lilium Oriental hybrids.

  • The present study was carried out to determine the effects of lighting directions and light intensities on the growth of in vitro plantlets of strawberry, potato and lily. The growth of plantlets was affected by two different lighting systems, downward and sideward lighting system. There were no difference for the plantlets of strawberry regardless of lighting directions. However, leaf area, fresh weight and dry weight have increased as the light intensity increased. Also, plant height and root length on node culture of potato decreased at high intensity of the sideward lighting, while thickness of stem and root was thicker, fresh weight and dry weight were heavier, and leaf area was increased. Also, bulblet formation on scale culture of lily has been abundant, and fresh weight and dry weight were increased. Thus, the sideward lighting system which loaded three stories for culture vessels with raising light intensity into culture vessels instead of conventional downward lighting system promoted growth and raised the efficiency of production of high quality microplant.
