The Effect of BSE Education with Practice on Knowledge, Self-Efficacy and Performance in Middle-Aged Women (중년여성의 유방자가검진 교육이 유방자가검진 지식, 자기효능감 및 수행에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: Breast cancer is a common cancer in women in Korea. Early detection of breast cancer is very important for the protection of a woman's health. The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to determine the effect of BSE education on knowledge, self efficacy and performance in middle-aged women. Method: The participants were 33 women who agreed to participate in the study. They responded to a questionnaire that included items on knowledge, self-efficacy and performance of BSE. The experimental group was given a 90 minute-session including a lecture and practice with a BSE practice model and their own body. Their knowledge of the BSE was measured using Choi's tool and self-efficacy was measured using the scale by Champion and Scott. Results: Homogeneity for knowledge, self-efficacy and performance of BSE between the experimental and the control groups was confirmed. After 3 months of BSE education, knowledge, self-efficacy and frequency of BSE performance in the experimental group were significantly higher than for the women in the control group. Conclusion: A BSE education program would be helpful to enhance health behavior by early detection of breast cancer in middle-age women.

The Study of critical thinking disposition, clinical competence, and satisfaction of clinical practice in nursing students (간호학생의 비판적 사고 성향과 임상수행능력 및 임상실습만족도에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify critical thinking disposition, clinical performance, and satisfaction of clinical practice in a college nursing students. Methods: The data were collected from self reported questionnaires about clinical performance, and critical thinking disposition given to 55 nursing students at June, 2017. Results: The mean score of total clinical performance was 3.70 (${\pm}.54$). Total critical thinking disposition was 3.57 (${\pm}.44$) and clinical satisfaction was 3.93 (${\pm}.72$). Regarding clinical performance, psycho-social competence was highest followed by basic care competence, educational care competence, nursing process competence, observing and monitoring competence, and nursing intervention competence. Critical thinking disposition had a significant positive correlation with clinical competence. Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that developing various clinical education and teaching learning methods for clinical competence is necessary to promote critical thinking disposition of nursing students.

The Effect of Health Literacy and Self-care Performance on Health Care Utilization of Medicaid Elderly (의료급여수급 노인의 건강정보이해능력과 자가간호 수행이 의료이용에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of health literacy and self-care performance on health care utilization of medicaid elderly. Methods: A total of 203 medicaid elderly over 65 and living in B-metropolitan city were interviewed. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and Hierarchical Multiple regression. Results: The average score of the health literacy was 7.88±2.84 out of 12. The average score of self-care was 3.26±0.77 points on the 5 point scale. The frequency of health care utilization by the subjects was 6.65±5.25 a month. The health literacy and self-care performance showed a statistically significant positive correlation. The health literacy and self-care performance showed a statistically significant negative correlation with health care utilization. The factors affecting health care utilization of the subjects were self-care performance, health literacy, and religion, and the explanatory power was 25%. Conclusion: The results indicate that the self-care performance, health literacy, religion are significant factors of health care utilization in medicaid elderly. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies to improve their self-care performance and health literacy for reasonable health care utilization. Also, it is necessary to provide the elderly with correct information about medical use from accessible religious institutions, senior community center, and welfare centers.

Influence of Standard Precaution Knowledge, Performance on Nursing Professionalism in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 표준주의 지식과 수행도가 간호전문직관에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was attempted to identify knowledge, performance of standard precautions, and nursing professionalism and to investigate the influence on nursing professionalism in nursing students experienced clinical practice. Methods: The subjects are 205 nursing students in six university nursing departments in two regions. The data were collected from September 7th to September 17th, 2021 using the online survey. Results: The total score for knowledge of standard precautions was 24.69. The average for performance of standard precautions was 3.70 on a scale of 4 and nursing professionalism was an average of 4.12 on a scale of 5. Factors affecting nursing professionalism included gender(β=-.21, p=.002), knowledge of standard precautions(β=.13, p=.044), and performance of standard precautions(β=.27, p=<.001). The explanatory power of the model was 13.1%. Conclusions: Results of this study suggest that it is necessary to develop and apply an clinical educational program that can promote knowledge and performance of standard precautions to enhance the positive nursing professionalism of nursing students.

The Effects of a Secondary Stroke Prevention Program on the Health Risk Indicators and Self-Care Compliance of Stroke Patients (뇌졸중 이차예방교육이 건강위험지표와 자가간호수행에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of a secondary stroke prevention education program on the health risk indicators and self-care compliance of stroke patients. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used to select the participants. Subjects were 54 stroke patients (27 in the experimental group and 27 in the control group) hospitalized in a K university hospital in D city, Korea. Health risk indicators and self-care compliance were measured both for a baseline, as well as after intervention. The data was analyzed using a chi-square test, paired t-test and ANCOVA. Results: There were significant differences in systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, weight and self-care compliance. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that an educational secondary stroke prevention program is effective for health risk indicators and self-care compliance of patients. Therefore it can be used as an effective nursing intervention in clinical practice.

Factors Influencing Clinical Competence for General Hospital Nurses (일 종합병원 간호사의 간호수행능력 영향 요인)

  • This study was conducted to investigate factors contributing to clinical competence for nurses. A descriptive correlational study design was used. Participants were 163 nurses from a general hospital. Data were collected using self-administerd questionnaire. There were significant differences in clinical competence according to scholarship, department type, preceptor experience, future plan, continuing education participation. The clinical competence had significant correlations with the clinical experience, critical thinking disposition and clinical decision making. Factors influencing clinical competence were critical thinking disposition, department type, and clinical experience, which explained about 50.3% of total variance. we suggest that continuing education program to enhance critical thinking disposition warranted for development of clinical competence for nurses.

  • 본 연구는 급변하는 의료환경에 대비하여 간호의 질 향상 및 증진을 통한 환자 만족도 증진을 위해 간호전달체계를 기능적 간호방법에서 팀간호제 방법으로 전환을 하면서 이에 따른 간호활동 및 직무 만족도를 조사하였다. 간접간호 수행률 조사를 살펴보면 기록간호, 확인업무, 물품관리, 간접소통, 전달 업무 등 모두에서 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 영양간호, 전적인 식사보조 등은 간호직무만족도가 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 간호사 직무만족도는 어려움이 있을 때 동료나 상사에게 의논하는 것으로 나타났다. 안전간호, 화재예방 등이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 간호사 업무성과 병동의 시설과 기구를 적절히 관리한다. 간호사 업무성과, 환자에게 적절한 휴식 및 안정을 위한 간호를 제공하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과 간호사들이 역할을 명확히 규명하고 세분화하여 이를 수행하는 직무내용을 명확하게 파악하고 작업표준 지침서를 작성하여 활용한다면 간호사들의 자가 관리 증진은 물론 환자와 보호자에게도 만족감을 높여 줄 수 있는 계기가 될 것이며, 이를 통한 다양한 팀제 운영이 될 것이라 생각된다. 또한, 향후 다양한 업무 개선 활동이 가능할 것이라 생각된다.

A Study on the Degree of Self-care Activities of Stroke Patients, the Family Burden, and the Educational Needs of Primary Caregivers (뇌졸중 환자의 자가간호 수행과 가족 부담감 및 교육적 요구에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of self-care activities of stroke patients, the family burden, and the educational needs of primary caregivers. A descriptive survey research was conducted in 97 stroke patients and their respective primary caregivers. Data were collected by the interviews using a structured questionnare from July 26th to August 5th, 1999. NIH stroke status was $12.15{\pm}8.40$, the degree of self-care activities of stroke patients was $26.85{\pm}9.39$. The score of objective burden of primary caregivers was $31.24{\pm}4.81$ and subjective burden was $24.30{\pm}6.99$. The score of the educational needs was $89.78{\pm}9.99$. We present several imformations about clients from these scores as follows: The patients were convalescent and their depentant level of self- care was middle range; The objective burden was higher than the subjective burden; And the educational needs of family caregivers were very high. The Elain Mattis Educational Wants of Family Caregivers of Disabled Adults Questionnaire was used to assess the educational needs of primary caregivers of stroke patients. The results of this research are offered to help nurses understand the feelings of uncertainty about the new and unexpected role that family caregivers face and to help nurses meet the needs of families preparing to care stroke survivors at home.

A Study about Self-care for Hypertensives in Rural area (일부 농촌지역 고혈압 환자의 자가간호 수행요인 연구)

  • Essential hypertension is a typical chronic disease requiring adequate and continuous management. Many studies supported that self-care was the essential factor to promote the wellbeing of hypertensives and self-efficacy increased healthy, behavior. The comprehensive self-regulation program was conducted as a nursing intervention on the promotion self-care performance for hypertensives in company. And this self-regulation program was recommended to apply for hypertensives in rural area. The purpose of this study is to identify the general characteristics affecting self-care and interrelationship among the factors including self-care, self-efficacy, HLOC, perceived benefits, barriers and family support. 40 subjects were interviewed from Dec. 1996 to Jan. 1997 and the data was analyzed by the SPSS PC+ program with t-test and multiple correlation to determine the variables affecting the self-care behavior. The results were as follows: 1) Level of self-care was significant difference according to sex(t= -2.27, p=.0l9). religion (t=1.57, p=.055) and smoking habit (t=4.42, P=.000). Perceived self-efficacy was more significantly high among the non-smoking group (t=3.25, P=.000) and female group (t=-2.534, p=.0l3). 2) There were significant positive correlation among the variables: self-care and self-efficacy (r=.5460, p=.000), external-LOC and self-care(r=.2548, p=.056), external-LOC and self-efficacy(r =. 2901, p=.035), self-efficacy and perceived benefits (r=3307, p=.019). And there were significant negative correlation between self-care and barriers (r=-.5438, p=. 000), self-efficacy and barriers (r= - .4153, p=.004). From the above results, it can be concluded that the self-care is more required in male hypertensives and self-efficacy is one of the important factors to increase healthy behavior in cluding self-care. Thus self-regulation program can be recommended in the management of the hypertensives in community settings.

  • The Cancer Patients are rapidly growing and it became one of the main cause of death. Lately with the effect of Chemotherapy, drastically improved patients quality of life and also Prolonged Life of Cancer Patients. But the Chemotherapy not only Kill the Cancer cells but also harm to normal cells witch Cancer lots of side effect. This study was designed to identify the effectiveness of patient education to reduce side effect and help promote self care. The date was collected from October, 2001 to February, 2002 by questionary Survey Method. The subjects were 24 patients Who were and Anti Chemotherapy C University Hospital. Educated booklet contained what is Chemotherapy, what are the side effects, and to promote Self care, Pre test was given after 3-4 weeks re admission period. Analysis data was done by SPSS Program Paired t-test was used to differentiate Knowledge and difference of performing self care. Relationship in between Knowledge and promoting Self care was used Pearson Correlation. As the result of education, knowledge of self care and performance was drastically increased but the relationship in between knowledge of self care performed was not significant. Therefore it is proposed as follows: 1) Further research with experienced subjects to differentiate experience group and control group. 2) Education program need to be develop and standardize for anti cancer Chemotherapy patient. 3) During 6 cycle of Chemotherapy what is ideal number of in order to get the best result.
