For the control of Corythucha ciliata, the insecticidal activity of five commercial pesticides (Monocrotophos 25%SL, Phosphamidon 50%SL, Imidacloprid 20%DC, Thiamethoxam 15%DC and Acetamiprid 20%SL) were examined with trunk injection method in Seoul, Sanbon and Chungju. The insecticidal activity of five commercial pesticides was >88%. The insecticidal activity of Monocrotophos maintained 31 days later after trunk injection when treated leaves were supplied to this pest. This result indicates that one application of trunk injection is enough to control this pest, and this method can save the control cost compared with ground application which should be applied two or three times per year to control this pest. To make the model of treatment dosage at each D.B.H class (cm), $1.0m{\ell}/DBH$, $1.5m{\ell}/DBH$ and $2.0m{\ell}/DBH$ pesticide dosage was used. At <20cm, the insecticidal activity of $1.0m{\ell}$ dosage was >95%, and $1.5-2.5m{\ell}$ dosage was needed for the effective control at 30~50cm. More than $2.5m{\ell}$ dosage was effective at >50cm. Spray method was used in laboratory to select pesticides for ground application. Three commercial pesticides (Ethofenprox 20%EC, Ethofenprox 10%WP and Cyfluthrin 1%EC) were used, and all pesticides showed >95% insecticidal activity.

Insecticidal and antifeeding activities of 29 commercialized eco-friendly organic products for managing plant diseases and insect pests against Plutella xylostella larvae, Spodoptera exigua larvae, Frankliniella occidentalis adults, and Myzus persicae adults were tested using spraying and leaf dipping bioassays under laboratory conditions. Products containing 60% Sophora extract (EOIS) and mixtures (EOISm) with Sophora extract, Stemona japonica extract, Melia azedarach extract, and Nepeta cataria extract as well as mixtures (EOISc) with Sophora extract, Chenopodium ambrosioides extract, and Melia azedarach extract as active ingredients showed strong insecticidal activity at recommended concentration against P. xylostella larvae. At half concentration, their insecticidal activities were decreased under 50%. The EOIS gave good insecticidal activity against S. exigua larvae and also showed 85% and 95% insecticidal activity at 24 and 48 hours after treatment to F. occidentalis adults, respectively. For M. persicae adults, EOISm and mixtures (EOIR) containing rape seed extract, neem extract, and castar oil produced 93% and 68% insecticidal activity, but their activities did not be increased at double concentration. EOISm only showed 100% contact toxicity against M. persicae adults exposed to dipping leaves. Interestingly, the insecticidal activity of EOIR and EOICi (citronella oil and derris extract) against M. persicae adults was increased with exposed time and concentration. In addition, EOICe (cedar oil), EOIS, EOISm, EOISc, EOIM (microorganism), EOIR, EOIPe (plant extract), and EOIT (tea tree extract) gave strong antifeeding activity against S. exigua and P. xylostella larvae. EOIB, EOIBs, EOIM, EOICi, and EOIMc showed above 70% antifeeding activity to the lepidopteran larvae. These results indicate that mixtures containing 2 to 3 plant extracts with Sophora extract show good activities against insect pests, although the difference of insecticidal and antifeeding activities was produced depending on both a tested insect species and an active ingredient or concentration.
The diploid Solanum cardiophyllum, a wild tuberbearing species from Mexico is one of the relatives to potato, S. tuberosum. It has been identified as a source of resistance to crucial pathogens and insects such as Phytophthora infestans, Potato virus Y, Colorado potato beetle, etc. and is widely used for potato breeding. However, the sexual hybridization between S. cardiophyllum and S. tuberosum is limited due to their incompatibility. Therefore, somatic hybridization can introduce beneficial traits from this wild species into the potato. After somatic hybridization, selecting fusion products using molecular markers is essential. In the current study, the chloroplast genome of S. cardiophyllum was sequenced by next-generation sequencing technology and compared with those of other Solanum species to develop S. cardiophyllum-specific markers. The total length of the S. cardiophyllum chloroplast genome was 155,570 bp and its size, gene content, order and orientation were similar to those of the other Solanum species. Phylogenic analysis with 32 other Solanaceae species revealed that S. cardiophyllum was expectedly grouped with other Solanum species and most closely located with S. bulbocastanum. Through detailed comparisons of the chloroplast genome sequences of eight Solanum species, we identified 13 SNPs specific to S. cardiophyllum. Further, four SNP-specific PCR markers were developed for discriminating S. cardiophyllum from other Solanum species. The results obtained in this study would help to explore the evolutionary aspects of Solanum species and accelerate breeding using S. cardiophyllum.

(Phytoseiidae), and Orius sp. (Anthocoridae) were observed.
Ethanol extracts from 46 vegetables were tested their insecticidal activities toward five agricultural insect pests and four stored-product insect pests. The efficacy varied with both agricultural insects/stored-product insects and vegetable species used. Potent insecticidal activities, at the concentration of 5,000 ppm, were produced from extracts of Nelumbo nucifera and Ulva lactuca against Myzus persicae, Zea ways and Z. mays (leaf) against Nilaparvata lugens, Citrullus vulgaris (seed) and U. lactuca against Plutella xylostella, N. nucifera, Z. mays, and Z. mays (leaf) against Spodoptera litura, and C. vulgaris (seed), Daucus carota, Helianthus annuus (leaf), H. annuus (flower), Lactuca sativa, and Zingiber officinale against Tetranychus urticae. Potent insecticidal activities at the concentration of 2,500 ppm were exhibited from the extracts of N. nucifera and U. lactuca against M. persicae, Z. mays against N. lugens, C. vulgaris (seed) and U. lactuca against xylostella, N. nucifera and Z. mays against S. litura, and C. vulgaris (seed), H. annuus (flower), and L. santiva against T. urticae. Against four stored-product insect pests at 50 ppm, extracts of C. vulgaris (seed) and Cucurbita moschatla (seed) against Sitophilus oryzae and C. vulgaris (seed), H. annuus (seed), and Z. officinale against Plodia interpunctellfa revealed potent insecticidal activities over 80% mortality. In tests with Callosobruchus chininsis and Lasioderma serricorne, extracts of all vegetables tested exhibited meager and no activity.

A sampling survey was conducted at three reservoirs of Junam wetland ($6.02km^2$) in Korea to identify the wetland insect fauna along with their dominance, diversity, richness and evenness. Methods of monitoring were visual inspection and sweeping in 2010, Malaise trapping in 2011, light trapping and pitfall trapping in 2012. In total, 9,269 individuals (36.3% coleopterans, 21.3% lepidopterans and 13.9% odonates) were collected, belonging to 574 species, 141 families and 14 orders. For the number of species, lepidopterans shared the highest (31.2%), followed by coleopterans (28.0%) and hemipterans (12.9%). Dominant species were Enochrus simulans (Coleoptera) (7.9% of total individuals) followed by Hydaticus grammicus (Coleoptera) (4.3%), Galerucella nipponensis (Coleoptera) (4.1%), Elophila interruptalis (Lepidoptera) (3.1%) and Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera) (2.2%). Total counts of coleopterans, lepidopterans and odonates in the three reservoirs were quite high, but the counts were not significantly different among the reservoirs. Insect diversity index (H') and richness index (RI) of the Junam wetland were 5.04 and 59.10, respectively.
This study eras carried out to investigate the ecological changes on the plant community at erosion controlled area in Yoju-gun, Kyonggi-do. The results of the study were as follows : 1. The depth of organic matters in the soil profile from 4 to 14 years was estimated to be $Y_{(cm)}=0.436X_{(yr)}-0.931$(r=0.978), and 02 layer was $Y_{(cm)}=0.339_{(yr)}-0.931$ (r=0.954). 2. On upper plant layer. Alnus spp. was decreased, on an average, 32% of relative coverage, 12.4% of relative density and 16.8% of relative frequency in each plot for 3 years, as this area was damaged by Agelastica coerulea Baly for 2-3 years. 3. On upper plant layer, relative coverage of Pinus spp. was increased after 6, 7 years in erosion controlled area and was taked the highest plant (more then 40%) from 10 to 14 years. 4. On lower plant layer, relative density of Quercus ssp. (these species has not been planted and sown on erosin controlling) was increased all the plot. 5. The increase of the whole crown projection area was estimated to be $Y_{(m^2)}=18.020X_{(yr)}+18.834$(r=0.954) 6. The biomass was estimated to be 14.88t/ha on elapsed 6 years, 22.84t/ha on 8 years, 35.08t/ha on 10 years, 47.80t/ha on 12 years, 58.13t/ha on 14 years.
Terrestrial insect fauna was surveyed in the Junam wetland area, which consists of the Junam, Dongpan, and Sannam wetlands, by visual counting and pictures. A sweep net collection was conducted from May to October 2010. A neighburing artificial lotus wetland was also surveyed for comparison. A total of 5,730 insects were surveyed, representing 268 species in 85 families and 12 orders. Sixty-three species of coleopterans were surveyed, followed by 60 species of Lepidoptera, and 37 species of Hemiptera. Coleopteran individuals were 25.9% of the total insect numbers surveyed, comprising most abundant group. This was followed by Odonata, Lepidoptera, and Orthoptera at 22.3%, 15.4%, and 12.7%, respectively. In total, 197 species were surveyed in the Dongpan wetland, 175 in the Junam wetland, and 154 species in the Sannam wetlands. However, only 86 species were surveyed in the artificial lotus wetland. Galerucella nipponensis in Coleoptera, Crocothemis servilia mariannae in Odonata, and Polygonia c-aureum in Lepidoptera were the most abundant in all four wetlands. Community analyses showed that the dominance index was highest in the artificial lotus wetland at 0.25 and lowest in Junam wetland at 0.08. Diversity indices were relatively high in all wetlands at 4.48, 4.44, 4.28, and 3.87 in Junam, Dongpan, Sannam, and the artificial lotus wetland, respectively. The insect fauna similarity index was highest in the Junam and Dongpan wetlands at 0.96. The lotus wetland showed the lowest similarity of the three wetlands with values of 0.45-0.53.

Sarracenia purpurea as a carnivorous plant in the family Sarraceniaceae is known to require strong light for its growth and to absorb nutrients from the decomposed molecules of insects that are attracted by color, sweet juice, and the like. S. purpurea grew greenish in whole body under weak light conditions, while the whole of the insectivorous sac including leaves, is changed to dark red under strong light conditions. The phenomenon of reddish S. purpurea is thought to be related to the flavonoid pigment anthocyanin. Interestingly, the color change was not observed when S. purpurea was grown in a growth condition with abundant nitrogen fertilizer. The expression levels of anthocyanin contents and biosynthesis-related genes were strongly correlated with light intensity and nitrogen fertilizer. The anthocyanin content in the strong light condition ($240{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$) was 6.15 times higher than that in the weak light ($40{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$). In contrast, the anthocyanin contents were not significantly changed when 0.8% urea solution was supplied as nitrogen fertilizer. Consistently, CHALCONE SYNTHASE (CHS) gene was up-regulated by strong light and down-regulated by nitrogen fertilizer. These results suggest that the environmental changes of light and nitrogen in soil regulate the anthocyanin content in S. purpurea.
