  • In most of the structural members with initial cracks, the strength tends to decrease as the member size increases. This phenomenon is known as size effect. Among the structural materials of glass, metal or concrete, etc., concrete represents the size effect even without initial crack. According to the previous size effect law, the concrete member of very large size can resist little stress. Actually, however, even the large size member can resist some stress if there is no initial notch. This means that the fracture mechanism of very small or very large size member follows strength criterion, but the medium size member follows non-linear fracture mechanics (NLFM). In this study, the empirical models which are derived based on nonlinear fracture mechanics are proposed according to the regression analysis with the existing test data of large size specimens for uni-axial compression test, splitting tensile test and shear test of reinforced concrete beams.

  • In this test, there was two-dimensional model loading test implemented for analysis with respect to the problem of evaluating bearing capacity and the application range on the dredged and reclaimed ground, so it was possible to get the following result by comparing a result of loading test and an equation proposed previously. When the difference between average undrained shea. strength by (equation omitted)B of loading board width and the strength under. (equation omitted)B is mere than $\pm50%$, the applicability of Nc(coefficient of bearing capacity where $\phi=0$ analysis is considered in the single layer) was declined. As well, using Nc=5.7, 5.14(coeffcient of bearing capacity where $\phi=0$ analysis is applicable to saturated clay without special limit) for evaluating bearing capacity on the dredged and reclaimed ground causes poor applicability, therefore that seem to be applicable when water content is less than about 75% which makes the unconfined compression test possible.

  • In this study, the mixed design of grout with hish strength.high permeation.high durability and environmental stability as the state of the art in material field was performed. Also, the subjects of grouting, grouting effects for ground conditions, and environmental effects were analyzed. According to these results, the fundamental data will be suggested as a design of grouting in the field application. The physical, mechanical and chemical characteristics with particle shape of the grouts were analyzed. Then, the gel-time of grouts, which is essential for workability and permeation range, were controlled. Also, the laboratory model grouting tests were performed to find the characteristics of solidification, permeation and durability with grouts. The ordinary portland, slag and microcement which have been used in the construction field were evaluated fur the environmental effects. To find the leaching of $Cr^{6+}$characteristics in cement grouts, $Cr^{6+}$ leaching tests were performed for the raw materials. Also, the results of leaching test were shorn by surrounding environment. Then, the unconfined compression strength tests were performed with the homo-gel samples, and the amount of changed $Cr^{6+}$ was measured by curing solution.

  • An alternative design method of existing methods based on elastic theory the design method of roadbed considering plastic deformation of roadbed and stress-strain at roadbed materials with the cyclic loading of trains passing. The characteristics of the developed design method considering traffic load, number of cyclic loading and resilience modulus of roadbed materials can evaluate elastic strain as well as plastic settlement with allowable design criteria. The proposed design method is applied to standard roadbed section drawing of HONAM high-speed railway considering design conditions such as allowable elastic and plastic settlement, train speed, the tonnage of trains. As a result, required levels of resilience modulus model parameter ($A_E$), unconfined compressive strength, types of soil material were evaluated.

  • An organic acid material, which can be manufactured by plants extraction, encourages microbe proliferation over time. Microbial activity, which is affected by organic acid, encourages accelerating consolidation with biochemical penetration; soil particles are compacted by microbes and pore water is dissipated quickly. Additionally, $CaCO_3$ for cementation was made by proliferating microbes. Accordingly, tests were conducted to investigate the unconfined compressive strength and permeability of soil samples aged with and without an organic acid. In the 96 days of aging, the strength was generally 1.5~2.5 times greater than those without an organic acid material and permeability was definitely decreased to 74.2~93.1%. SEM analysis showed the change of pore structure and the change of the total bacteria counts revealed the activity of microbes reflecting the engineering characteristics and this material would be an environment-friendly for soil improvement.

  • The objective of this study is to determine the engineering properties of micro fine hybrid silicate grout materials that were developed recently. In this study, MSG-N type was mainly used as grout materials, and the chemical components, grain size distribution, mineral characteristics were analyzed. Moreover, the properties of active silica and ordinary portland cement acting as coagulating agent were analyzed and compared with each other. To determine the engineering properties, the bleeding test, viscosity test, coagulation test, examination with naked eye, photographing by using SEM, uniaxial compression test and in-situ application test for reclaimed ground were carried out. A series of test results showed that the strength of micro fine hybrid silicate grout materials was about twice that of ordinary sodium silicate grout materials, and alkali leakage decreased dramatically when MSG method was utilized. Especially, based on the evaluation of the application of the MSG method to field, this method would be very effective in reducing coefficient of permeability due to its excelent permeability.

  • We investigate mechanical anisotropy dependent of rock fabric and its relationship with microcracks in the Pocheon Granite. Uniaxial compressive strengths range from 177MPa to 212MPa and the elastic constants are 48GPa-62GPa. The tensile strengths are 6.9MPa~8.5MPa and ultrasonic wave velocities range between 3,200m/sec and 3,700m/sec, indicating that mechanical anisotropy is strongly dependent of rock fabric. The minimum anisotropy ratio is 14% and the maximum is 24%, depend on the mechanical properties. The preferred orientations of microcracks are closely related with the directions of rock fabric. The preferred orientations of microcracks in feldspar are governed by the direction of mineralogical axis and are different from the directions of rock fabric. However, microcracks in quartz grains are very long and parallel to the directions of rock fabric, indicating that directions of rock fabric may be governed by the preferred orientations of microcracks in quartz grains. The preferred orientations of microcracks measured by differential strain analysis and microscopic observation are slightly different. That may be caused by different methodology. Lengths and numbers of microcrack are measured by microscopic observation. However, differential strain analysis measures the widths of microcracks.

  • The purpose of this research is to identify the effectiveness of injection with soil conditions by injecting CaCO3(created by microorganism reaction), which was recreated with equipment in similar situ condition. To analyze our research, we made 2 cases of single-layer (SP, SW) in D 150mm ${\times}$ H 300mm. Layers were made by RC 70, 80, 85, 90, 95% of soil condition. We measured uniaxial compression strength with cone penetrometer and watched injection range by checking a bulb formation around the injection nozzle. As a result, the relative compaction(RC) in more 85% were not injected in SW, we could identify the effect of bio-grouting technology on ground in relative compaction(RC) of injection ratio and cementation range.

  • In this study, the expansion and compressive strength tests of emergency restoration material were carried out to restore cavity causing ground subsidence. The expansion and compressive strength characteristics according to component ratio of main material - hardener and mix proportion of blowing agent - accelerator were analyzed based on the test results. As a result of the relationship of curing time - expansion ratio analyses, it confirmed that expansion ratio decreased with reduced curing time regardless of mix proportion of blowing agent - accelerator in main material, if component ratio of hardener increased. This means that component ratio of the main material - hardener had greatly affected the expansion ratio. The compressive strength characteristics of emergency restoration material confirmed that strength was affected by mix proportion of blowing agent - accelerator. Therefore, it is necessary to apply reasonable component ratio and mix proportion to consider the required injection time, expansion ratio and strength of restoration material, when emergency restoration in ground cavity is required.
