  • National citizenship has been empathized by nation-state since modern times. But with recent wave of globalization, the force of national citizenship is gradually reducing. Globalization requires citizens of global citizenship needed in the global village on the one hand, and of cultural citizenship suited in multicultural society on the other hand. The trend shows that the geographical focus of citizenship is shifted or expanded from the political domain to the social and cultural domain. Moreover, with concerns of personal everyday life citizenship is extended from standard personality by Western view to inclusion and exclusion in micro everyday space, non-Western view based on social difference of gender, class, ethnicity etc. New spaces of citizenship, cultural citizenship and everyday citizenship which empathizes personal right and difference is emerging instead of national citizenship based on personal allegiance and duty of the state. This means that the state has not only a task of establishment of common national citizenship, but also a challenge to recognize of diversity of citizens.

  • Objective : To investigate the correlation between relationship ability and ADL performance ability of patients with TBI. Methods : This study was carried out from March 2012 to April 2012 with 20 patients with TBI. Relationship ability assessed using Relationship Change Scale(RCS), ADL performance ability assessed using Functional Independence Measure(FIM). Results : The RCS showed a high level of correlation with marital status and duration of illness. The RCS showed a high level of correlation with the FIM total score and the FIM cognition area. However the RCS did not show a correlation with the FIM motor area. Conclusions : Functional disability of social cognition is a factor that disturbs rehabilitation after TBI and it has a negative influence on the relationship in ADL. If accurate evaluation and treatment on relationship ability after TBI are carried out side by side from the initial stages of onset, we could expect more patients to improve their social cognition and ADL performance ability.

  • There is a large body of literature that studies serious leisure participants in a wide range of activities. By comparison, casual leisure has received scant attention, bearing few empirical studies. And serious leisure is often cast in an superior role in comparison with casual leisure for optimally healthy or beneficial leisure. The purpose of this study is to investigate the psychological functioning of 'casual leisure-serious leisure'. Especially, we pay more attention to reveal the positive functioning of casual leisure. It draws findings from the data of 291 university students. The results are as follows. First, in comparison with 'casual leisure group', 'serious leisure group' was showed a higher significant increase in leisure related functioning(leisure satisfaction and leisure benefits such as physical health, relationship and self-controlibility). However, There is no significant inter-group differences in 'self-life functioning variables(positive·negative self-esteem, happiness, quality of life)'. It implies even though serious leisure has more relation to positive leisure experiences, people maintain and enhance their self-esteem and experience satisfaction and happiness of their entire lives through casual leisure participation as much as serious leisure.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine everyday emotional experience of urban elderly in Korea. Specifically, this study explores gender differences in the effect of place/location of activity and companionship on the daily emotional experience. Data were collected from 148 urban elderly (men=76, women=72) in Seoul, using Experience Sampling Method(ESM). The unit of analysis was the self-report and in total 5,530 self-reports were provided. The statistical methods used for the data analyses were descriptive statistics, t-test, χ2 verification, and ANOVA. The major findings are as follows. First, the elderly in Korea spend a quite substantial portion of their time at home, and they spend the largest share of their time in company with their spouse. Second, women report higher intensity of stress and irritation than men in terms of overall emotional experience. Third, the effect of activity location and companionship on emotional experience turned out to be different depending on gender. Emotional experience of daily lives and overall quality of life are shown to be inter-related. Based on these findings, this study provides a significant implication that situational contexts of experience should be considered in order to understand the daily emotional experience of the contemporary Korean elderly.

Methods: The study subjects, 439 rural residents(male: 196, female:243) aged over 65 in Kumsan Kun and Chongyang Kun, Chungchongnamdo Province were interviewed, in June of 2004, about their sociodemographic characteristics, daily life styles, the variety of dietary consumption, ADL and IADL with the following major findings: Results: In terms of the scores' distribution to show variety of food consumption among all subjects, 68.3% got 1~3 points, 23.2% 4~6 points, and 8.4% 7~10 points with a decreasing proportion of subjects in higher points. In terms of their functional status, normal-range groups showed 93.2% of ADL and 72.9% of IADL whereas, impaired ADL group 6.8% of ADL and 27.1% of IADL, respectively. Concerning the relation of ADL and IADL with the variety of their consumed food, the greater scores for food variety was associated with the significantly higher proportion of normal ADL group and the lower proportion of impaired ADL group. Multiple logistic regression analysis with ADL and IADL as dependent variables, and food variety scores as explanatory variables, the relative risk of impaired-ADL group was 0.84 in the food variety group of 4~6 points, 0.63 in 7~10 points with no statistical significance. The relative risk of impaired- IADL group was 0.52(p<0.01) in the food variety group of 4~6 points, 0.41(p<0.05) in 7~10 points with statistical significance. Conclusions: These study results suggest that the lower dietary variety, the lower functional capacity of daily living, and the variety of dietary is associated with the functional capacity of daily living in rural elderly.
