Specifically, this study explores gender differences in the effect of place/location of activity and companionship on the daily emotional experience. Data were collected from 148 urban elderly (men=76, women=72) in Seoul, using Experience Sampling Method(ESM). The unit of analysis was the self-report and in total 5,530 self-reports were provided. The statistical methods used for the data analyses were descriptive statistics, t-test, χ2 verification, and ANOVA. The major findings are as follows. First, the elderly in Korea spend a quite substantial portion of their time at home, and they spend the largest share of their time in company with their spouse. Second, women report higher intensity of stress and irritation than men in terms of overall emotional experience. Third, the effect of activity location and companionship on emotional experience turned out to be different depending on gender. Emotional experience of daily lives and overall quality of life are shown to be inter-related. Based on these findings, this study provides a significant implication that situational contexts of experience should be considered in order to understand the daily emotional experience of the contemporary Korean elderly.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) of residential home dwelling elderly and home for the aged dwelling elderly. In attempt to address medical professional caring the elderly, this comparative study examines the factors associated with dependence in the ADL and IADL in two samples of elderly people living in two different environments. Methods: The instrument of ADL and IADL widely used Katz ADL and IADL. Katz ADL and IADL was not a perfect fit for Korean. In concern with cultural factors Won developed K(Korean)-ADL and K-IADL scale reflecting Korean's own language expression and cultural factors in year of 2002. The assessment tool of this study was K-ADL and K-IADL. Differences of ADL and IADL were tested for statistical significance using group t-test and x2 test for comparisons between the residential home dwelling elderly and the home for the aged dwelling elderly. Results: Comparison of assessment for K-ADL and K-IADL in two different dwelling types was significant. Performance of ADL and IADL depend upon their living environment such as social status, number of children, income, present illness as well as age group. This study also showed significant differences of performance in some activities of ADL and IADL between the elderly who live in their own home and live in home for the aged. Comparison of performance of ADL and IADL in different dwelling types revealed that only one item of ADL was significant but only one item of IADL was not significant. It means that IADL is more difficult activities in the home for the aged dwelling elderly than the residential home dwelling elderly. The coupled elderly has more independent in some ADL and IADL activities compared with the single elderly. Conclusion: Using K-ADL and K-IADL is more convenient for Korean elderly. Medical professional consider some factors like dwelling style, social status, existing diseases and disabilities in order to care the elderly and train him/her activities of daily living as well as instrumental activities of daily living. Medical professional, especially physical and occupational therapist emphasize the training items which are bathing of ADL and grooming, housework, preparing meals, laundry, traveling, public transportation, shopping, using telephone and taking medicine of IADL based on the result of this study.

Twenty patients with stroke were participated patients with stroke in this study. Nineteen participants were randomly allocated to ten in experimental and nine in control groups. The both groups received the rehabilitation therapy during for 4 weeks. The experimental group performed Tabata exercise based on health care application, supervised under caregivers, during 30 min/day. The control group performed self-exercise supervised under caregivers, during 30 min/day. Both groups exercised for 4 weeks, 3 times a week, 30 min/day. Tabata exercise was trained by an physical and occupational therapists. The outcome measures were the BBS(: Berg Balance Scale), TUG(: Timed Up and Go, K-MBI(: Korean Modified Barthel Index). In results, the experimental groups showed a significant improvements after intervention in all assessments(p<.05), The control groups showed a significant improvements after intervention in BBS(p<.05) The experimental group showed a greater significant improvements than control group in TUG, BBS, K-MBI(p<.05). We suggest that Tabata exercise using health care application can have a effects of the improvements of balance, gait and activities of daily living than only self-exercise in patients with stroke.

  • The subjects of this study were 463 people aged 65 and older in the senior welfare center in Seoul and Gyeonggi. The purpose of the study is to analyze the differences between physical fitness factors and cognitive functions, activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, and psychological variables in the participation of the elderly in physical activities. Data ware analyzed by frequency analysis, reliability analysis, independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation analysis, with SPSS 25.0 statistics program. The results of this study are as follows. First, there are statistically significant differences in physical fitness, cognitive function, activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, and psychological factors such as depression and quality of life, depending on whether the elderly participate in physical activity. There were statistically significant differences in physical fitness, cognitive function, ADL, IADL, depression and quality of life, depending on the frequency of participation of older people in physical activity. A statistically significant difference in physical fitness appeared depending on the participation time of the elderly who participated in physical activity. Second, a study of the correlation between physical fitness and cognitive function, ADL, IADL, depression, and quality of life revealed a correlation for most factors. Based on these research results, it is necessary to develop a systematic arbitration strategy including physical activity for the successful aging of the elderly and the independent life of old age.

  • This study was conducted using non-face-to-face care technology for the elderly with mild dementia and the physically weak living in the community, as various methods of care for the elderly have been raised due to the prolonged COVID-19. The purpose of this study is a similar experimental study before and after the inequality control group to compare cognitive function, daily living activities, and the degree of depression by applying an AI robot integrated management program using. The data was collected from June 4 to September 17, 2021, and the survey results of 17 people in the experimental group and 18 in the control group were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 program. As a result of the study, the experimental group was significant in language function, activities of daily living, and depression. In particular, the results showed a decrease in moderate to severe depression and mild depression. Cognitive function was significant with long-term care grade and daily living activity with family living together. Therefore, if such non-face-to-face care technology is introduced to the elderly care field in the 'With Corona era', it is thought that it will contribute to cognitive function training and depression reduction of the elderly.

Rehabilitation training was applied 3 times a week and general occupational therapy 2 times a week using virtual reality rehabilitation training equipment in the experimental group, and general occupational therapy was performed 5 times a week, 30 minutes per session in the control group. As a result of the virtual reality rehabilitation program, cognitive function increased by 3.39 points in the experiment group, The control group who received only general occupational therapy increased by 1.5 points. As for the upper limb function, the average of the experimental group subjected to the virtual reality rehabilitation program increased by 4.84 points The control group who received only general occupational therapy increased by 1.34 points. As for activities of daily living, the average of the experimental group that conducted the virtual reality rehabilitation program increased by 20.38 points, The control group who received only general occupational therapy increased by 7.61 points.
