  • Severe casualties and property damage are occurring due to urban floods caused by extreme rainfall. However, there is a lack of research on preparedness, appropriate estimation of flood damages, assessment of losses, and compensation. Particularly, the flood damage estimation methods used in the USA and Japan show significant differences from the domestic situation, highlighting the need for methods tailored to the Korean context. This study addresses these issues by developing an optimized flood damage estimation technique based on the building characteristics. Utilizing the flood prediction solution developed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), we have established an optimal flood damage estimation technology. We introduced a methodology for flood damage estimation by incorporating vulnerability curves based on the inventory of structures and apply this technique to real-life cases. The results show that our approach yields more realistic outcomes compared to the flood damage estimation methods employed in the USA and Japan. This research can be practically applied to procedures for flood damage in urban basement residences, and it is expected to contribute to establishing appropriate response procedures in cases of public grievances.

  • Urban park planning has become difficult due to the lack of municipal funds. Thereupon, a special scheme was imposed for city park planning. Since then, a legal amendment was made for economical improvement and more active participation. However, there are a lot of questions about whether it was a suitable direction for parks and where it should be emphasized for public interest. Base on these concerns, this study examined the basis and characteristics of location, creation, and maintenance of private development parks in Japan, which was the policy model of Korean private parks. Location and space planning of private development parks was made up considering an effective green network and disaster prevention function, and a minimum area was about 1.42ha. The minimum area, 1ha, was established on the basis of considering realistic possibilities, disaster protection, and universal validity. It was also amended to consider the standard of type two mid- to high-rise exclusive residential areas and consultation with regional governance. Finally, it was built on the lowest limit of ordinance of the relevant city; for example, 100% of the floor area ratio, 30% of the building coverage ratio, and the maximum height of 11 stories, etc. For maintenance, private and public sectors were working together. Maintenance fees for 35 years (based on $300yen/m^2$ per month) were paid en bloc by the licensee. However, the city was paid for facilities that accompanied excessive maintenance costs. Meanwhile, it seemed difficult to introduce attractive profit facilities because of the limitations in location, usage permission, and introduction equipment; furthermore, there were problems with management authority, and the burden of expenses was deducted. For creating private Korean parks, this study suggested that we should build priority of creating city parks and select appropriate locations first; also, we need to make criteria for location, creation, and standard management rules that are relevant to the whole nation of Korea.

  • At present, the information on the foundation-structure interaction is lacking. As a result, the seismic performance evaluation of buildings seldom considers the effect of the foundation performance on the building responses. Recent earthquakes such as the 1993 Hokkaido Nansei-oki Earthquake(M=7.8), the 1994 Northridge Earthquake(M=6.7), the 1995 Hyogoken-Nambu Earthquake(M=7.2), and the 1999 Chi-Chi Earthquake (M=7.6) have shown that building damages are significantly affected by the degree of damage sustained by the building foundation and the interaction between the building and the foundation. This paper presents a nonlinear seismic analysis method for the seismic performance evaluation of reinforced concrete buildings which considers the pile foundation-structure interaction. The proposed method is applied to an actual building which was damaged during the 1993 Hokkaido Nansei-oki Earthquake. The result reveal that the method is able to predict the performance of the building.

  • The purpose of flower decoration at the funeral altar is to create various flower decorations at altar according to the social status of the deceased, to console psychological shock and pains of mourners and the bereaved families, and to make them remember the life of the deceased beautifully. In this study, five top funeral service companies in Korea selected by the Fair Trade Commission in 2017 and five repr And this researcher identified problems in flower decorations at the funeral altar in Korea, by comparing and analyzing the styles of flower decorations at funeral altars in Korea and Japan. In addition, this researcher surveyed consumers' preferences by age group. According to the results of the survey, most of the entire age group responded positively to the flower decorations at the funeral altar which focused on the job of the deceased. This means that consumers are demanding changes to the flower decorations at the funeral altar which are made up of the products of funeral service companies. In addition, the results of the survey, it can be seen that most consumers prefer to decorate the altar flowers according to the occupation, hobby, and taste of the deceased and present the altar in three dimensions like a landscape of nature. esentative funeral service companies in Japan were surveyed on the status of flower decorations at the funeral altar.

  • Domestically, application of High Flowing Self-Compacting Concrete (HSCC) is limited to building structures and it is difficult to find examples of application in civil infrastructural constructions. However, in the case of North America and Europe, by introducing precast and prestressed system, HSCC is being used for high-density reinforced bridge members. Hence it is assessed that broadening the utilization of HSCC into areas such as bridges and civil construction is required. Therefore in this research, to apply HSCC to high-density reinforced bridge members, ground granulated blast-furnace slag and fly ash were mixed in binary and ternary systems. Also the dynamical characteristics of HSCC, following 1st class regulations of Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE), were assessed to enable application on high-density reinforced structures. The test results revealed ternary system mixture showed better mechanical characteristics than binary system mixture and the application on high-density reinforced precast bridge members seems possible.

  • The Korean government has been encouraging 'continuous' post-pump priming project management through relevant local personnel planning, action, and management, upon the selection of 68 sites for urban regeneration as part of the New Deal Project. This study assessed the utilization characteristics of containers, the socio-experimental temporary occupation facilities, as a tool for 'sustainable' urban regeneration. This is to identify the potential limitations of urban regeneration by the utilization of containers as public sector temporary occupation facilities and to provide adequate directions based on its efficacy. By comparing three Korean cases with the Japanese WaiWai project, in terms of 10 elements, the preoccupations with the social trend and scenery, and undifferentiated functions of the facilities focusing on the commercial or working aspects have been identified as limitations of Korean cases. Based on the analyses, the following are suggested as plausible approaches to utilize socio-experimental containers for sustainable urban regeneration: 1. Planning and management should be done by the same organization because the absence of the planning party's participation in the management likely leads to the pursuit of only profits. 2. Diversification and combinations of different utilization purposes of a single site and numerous planning of experimental container uses are in need. 3. Accommodations of heavy commercial uses lead to a decline in the continuity of follow-up projects and a change in the urban regeneration directions. Therefore, it is important to include a public socio-experimental program rather than a simple commercial or promotion program for the following urban renewal project.

  • In Seoul, more than 80 percent of residential buildings are constructed with unreinforced masonry(URM) buildings in early 1970 to 1990. In general, URM buildings have the advantages of reducing the construction time and easy to construction. However, URM buildings do not have enough strength against the lateral force. Moreover, low rise buildings have not adopted seismic designs, and for that reason a critical damage is expected with an earthquake. And also, the necessity of the seismic performance evaluation of existing building structures is raised through the Taiwan earthquake in 1999. The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for unreinforced masonry building in Korea by application of the proposed seismic evaluation method. In this study, seismic capacities of 50 existing unreinforced masonry buildings are evaluated based on the proposed method. Also, relationships of seismic capacities between Korean earthquake damage ratios of korean unreinforced masonry buildings are estimated. Results of this study were as follows; 1)Seismic retrofit was needed $8{\sim}48%$ in Korean unreinforced masonry buildings. 2)Korean unreinforced masonry buildings were expected to have severe damage under the earthquake intensity level experienced in Japan.

  • Recently, the paradigm of SOC investment has shifted from new construction to maintenance. This shift became more important for the highway system because it is as one of the most important SOC. In Korea, highway maintenance costs are about 20% of the total annual highway construction budget, which is about two-thirds of developed countries. In addition, establishing standardized guidelines for the highway maintenance operation is not in place. Therefore, in order for domestic road construction and maintenance technology to secure competitiveness in the global construction market, it is urgent to improve the management capacity for maintenance as well as the technology and management capacity. This study examines highway maintenance practices in OECD countries such as North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan to identify core elements of highway maintenance practice. It is imperative to establish a comprehensive management system based upon asset management principle. Even if the budget for the highway construction is reduced, investment in maintenance needs to be maintained.

  • Animation is a comprehensive audio-visual art, animation literature, painting, music, architecture, photography and other art forms are integrated. China's animation industry has made some achievements in the new century, but on the whole, with the globalization of China, China's animation industry has been influenced by Japan and the United States. China has a history and culture of five thousand years, with profound social deposits and cultural foundation. Of the four ancient civilizations in the world, the Chinese civilization is the only one that has survived. China has too many stories to tell. From the development history of Chinese and foreign animation, we can see that many Chinese traditional cultural elements are used for reference. Since the 1980s, Chinese animation has been on the road of national revival. Chinese animation has begun to draw close to traditional culture in terms of themes, characters and scenes, and integrate Chinese traditional cultural elements. The theme of big fish and begonia is to repay kindness by sacrificing one's own life for the sake of justice and friendship. This fearless spirit of sacrificing one's life for justice is the concentrated embodiment of the fine qualities of the Chinese nation over the past several thousand years. Kun to save chun and give up his life, chun in order to repay rather give up half of his life, and qiushui in order to help their beloved, also would rather give up all of their own. These three protagonists are very distinctive personality characteristics, are to "righteousness" and give up their most precious things. At the same time, big fish and begonia combines many traditional Chinese cultural elements to form an animated film with Chinese characteristics.
