  • In this paper, we propose a method to automatically create the contents for spot-the-difference games. A spot-the-difference game is the game that finds the differences such as removal of some objects in the image or changes of shapes and colors from the original image. The original purpose of the exemplar-based image inpainting technique is to remove unnecessary objects. We use the exemplar-based inpainting technique to make the spot-the-difference game contents. From our implementation and experiments, we showed the effectiveness of our automatic generation technique of spot-the-difference contents.

  • In deep-submicron (BSM) design, coupling effects between wires on the bus cause serious problems such as crosstalk delay, noise, and power consumption. Most of the previous works on bus encoding are targeted either to minimize tile power consumption on bus or to minimize the crosstalk delay, but not both. In this paper, we propose a new bus encoding algorithm that minimizes the power consumption on bus and eliminates the crosstalk delay simultaneously. We formulate and solve the problem by minimizing a weighted sum of the self transition and cross-coupled transition activities on bus From experiments using a set of benchmark designs. it is shown that the proposed encoding technique consumes at least 15% less power over the existing techniques, while completely eliminating the crosstalk delay.

  • The effects of microbubble-oxygen physicochemical method for the removal of organic pollutants, nitrogen, and phosphorus contained in animal manure were investigated using a laboratory scale single reactor. The characteristics of used livestock manure were $36,894{\pm}5,024mg\;TCOD/L$, $22,031{\pm}2,018mg\;SCOD/L$, $4,150{\pm}35mg\;NH_4-N/L$, and $659{\pm}113mg\;PO_4-P/L$. It was confirmed that the amount of organic pollutants, nitrogen, and phosphorus removal was increased by the use of oxygen rather than air as the gas supplied with the microbubble, and by input of larger oxygen amount. When the oxygen was fed with 600 mL flow rate per minute, TCOD and phosphorus removal were 2.5 times and 5.6 times higher than those of air supplied. As the microbubble-oxygen reaction time was longer, the removal rate of nutrients increased gradually. The removal rates of ammonium and phosphorus reach to $41.03{\pm}0.20%$ and $65.49{\pm}1.39%$, respectively, after 24 hours. When the coagulation treatment method was applied to increase phosphorus removal rate from the effluent of microbubble-oxygen treatment, the phosphorus was removed up to 92.7%. However, the removal rate of organic pollutants (TCOD) was as small as $28.7{\pm}0.2%$ within the first 6 hours, and then the negligible removal of TCOD was recorded. This study suggests that microbubble-oxygen can be applied not only livestock manure but also aeration tank of various wastewater treatment plant, which can reduce the load on the associated unit process and produce stable high-quality effluent.

  • In this study, exfoliated vermiculite (EV) coated with glycerol was tested for its abiility to remove phosphorus in aqueous solution. The glycerol modified vermiculite (GS) was prepared with EV/glycerol ratio of 1/4 where glycerol contained 4 mol% $H_2SO_4$ and heated until designated temperature. GS heated at $380^{\circ}C$ showed that the specific surface area was $53.1m^2/g$ and mass loss due to oxidation of carbon was maximum from TGA analysis. Removal of phosphorus using GS heated at $380^{\circ}C$ was well explained by Langmuir isotherm model and maximum sorption capacity of 714.3 mg/kg is comparable or greater than those of other clay orignated sorbents for phosphorus.

  • This study evaluates the efficacy of titanium tetrachloride ($TiCl_4$) on phosphorus (P) removal in synthetic wastewater. Jar test experiments were performed at various $TiCl_4$ concentration (0.25-0.59 mM), and intensities of slow (30-60 rpm) and rapid (100-250 rpm) mixings to determine the conditions at which P removal was most efficient. The P-removal efficiency was highest (about 99%) at $TiCl_4$ concentration $([TiCl_4])=0.39mM$ with rapid-mixing intensity=100 rpm and slow-mixing intensity=30 rpm. The slow-mixing intensity was more sensitive than the rapid-mixing intensity to the P removal efficiency when [$TiCl_4$] was low ($0.25{\leq}[TiCl_4]{\leq}0.27mM$).

  • More than 1000 natural and constructed wetlands have been used to improve water quality. The general results showed that the highest removal efficiency was 84% for BOD and the lowest one was 48% for total nitrogen concentration. In addition, total phosphous removal efficiency was 67%, and the removal efficiencies are related to inflow loading. Researches donducted in Korea have focused on input-output mass balance and uptake by aquatic plant. As such little information if available about complex processes regulating water quality and role of microbes. Therefore, to determine the optimal design for construct, and methods to operate constructed wetland, researches about complex mechanisms of contaminant removal and interdisciplinary researches are necessary.

  • Phosphorous contaminated in the effluent from sewage treatment plants can cause the eutrophication in surface water bodies. In this study, a powder of titanium oxysulfate-sulfuric acid made of ion-exchange materials was immobilized in an alginate gel and this material was examined to evaluate its phosphorous removal efficiency. Equilibrium and kinetic studies were carried out to quantify the adsorption capacity and time dependent removal rate of phosphorous. Adsorption isotherms and kinetic parameters were obtained for the entrapped titanium beads with three different methods. Equilibrium data were analyzed using Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and found to be well fitted to the model. The maximum adsorption capacity for phosphorous by the titanium bead synthesized with the solution method was 92.26 mg/g. Kinetic data followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Due to the low production cost and high adsorption capacity, the titanium bead synthesized by the solution method has a potential to be utilized for the cost-effective removal of phosphorous from wastewater.

  • The feasibility of algae as means of removing nitrogen and phosphorus from secondary treated swine wastewater was studied. Among the tested 7 species of Chlorella vulgaris (UTEX 265), Chlorella sp. GE 21, Botryococcus braunii (UTEX 572), Botryococcus sp. GE 24, Scenedesmus quadricauda, Phormidium sp. GE 2, and Spirulina maxima (UTEX 2342), C. vulgaris was selected for its fast growth and abilities to remove nitrogen and phosphorus and to produce algal biomass from swine wastewater. C. vulgaris grew well at 35$^{\circ}C$, and the optimum initial pH for growth was 8.0. In the effect of light intensity, the growth of C. vulgaris was limited under a light intensity of less than 40 ${\mu}$E/$m^2$/s. The secondary treated swine wastewater contained 58.7 mg/l of total nitrogen and 14.7 mg/l of total phosphorus, and was diluted to 75, 50, and 25% with groundwater to be treated. Nitrogen and phosphorus were removed by C. vulgaris in all diluted swine wastewaters among which the most effective removal was in 75% swine wastewater (swine wastewater:groundwater=3:1). There was a tendency of linear increase in nitrogen and phosphorus removal time with increasing concentration of swine wastewater. Under the optimized culture condition, total nitrogen and total phosphorus were effectively removed to 95.3% and 96.0%, respectively, in 25% swine wastewater after 4-day incubation.
