  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the changes of the cognitive function and health-related quality of life. Study subjects were 35 elderly living alone and they participated in the cognitive program for 8 weeks regularly. The assessment of cognitive function was used by the Loewenstein occupational therapy cognitive assessment battery and the orientation, visual attention, spatial perception, motor praxis, visuomotor organization, thinking operation, and attention. The assessment of health-related quality of life was used by the Short form-8 health survey and the gerneral health condition, physical function and role, pain, vitality, social function, mental health, and emotional role. As the results, all the results of variables showed the statistically significant increase after the participation in the cognitive program. • Objective : This study analyzed the correlation between cognitive function and oral health-related quality of life (OHQoL). Methods : Demographic and clinical characteristics were extracted and utilized for subjects aged 45 years or older who participated in the 8th Korean Longitudinal Study on Aging in 2020. The dependent variable was the Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index, and the independent variable was the level of cognitive function classified by the Mini-Mental State Examination scores. The analysis method used inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW). Then, the association between cognitive function and OHQoL was analyzed by multiple regression analysis. Results : Among the participants, 4,367 (71.40%) had normal cognition, 1,155 (18.89%) had moderate cognitive impairment, and 594 (9.71%) had severe cognitive impairment. As a result of analysis by applying IPTW, there was a negative correlation between the cognitive function group and OHQoL (normal vs. moderate: β = -2.534, p < .0001; normal vs. severe: β = -2.452, p < .0001). Conclusion : After propensity score matching, mild cognitive impairment showed a more negative association than severe cognitive impairment. Therefore, patients with cognitive impairment require oral health management education to improve OHQoL regardless of the level of cognitive impairment.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency of falls, fear of falling, perceived health status, and number of disease according to cognitive function in community-dwelling the elderly women. This study utilized a descriptive survey design. Data were collected for six months with 311 elderly women who visited in public health center at S city. After obtaining Institutional Review Board(IRB) approval, a face-to-face, and private interview was conducted with each participant who was eligible and agreed to participate in this study by trained graduate-level nursing students. The questionnaires consisted of MoCA-K, K-MMSE, Fall Efficacy Scale, PHS scale. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 17.0 program, which was used descriptive statistics, Chi-Square test and t-test, Correlation. The major findings of this study were as follows; 1) The average age of the subjects was 71.68±5.13 and cognitive function score was 22.14±4.32. approximately 35% of participants had fallen within one year. 2) there were significant differences in perceived health status according to cognitive function. 3) fear of fall and cognitive function, perceived health status and cognitive function were significant correlation. In conclusion, this study will contribute to establish strategies for preventing fall. Interventions for fall prevention and fear of fall enhancement should be developed with the consideration of the level of cognitive function in the elderly. Reducing the fear of falling through the comprehensive nursing intervention will ultimately improve the quality of life in the elderly.

  • This study examined whether a correlation exists between the oral health indices assessed by experts and the self-perceived oral health status to develop practical oral health improvement programs for adults. In addition, this study provides basic data for carrying out oral health projects that can enhance the quality of life of adults. The raw data for the 2nd year (2014) of the 6th national health and nutrition survey were analyzed. Among those surveyed, adults over the age of 19 were designated as research subjects. In all age groups, correspondents with a higher DMFT Index assessed their self-perceived oral health status to be 'poor'. The oral health index evaluated by experts showed a correlation with the self-perceived oral health status. Therefore, as a higher self-perceived oral health status might help improve the objective oral health indices, oral health improvement programs should be strengthened to instill self-perceived oral health behavior.

  • Objectives : Based on the fact that cognitive functions decline known as comorbid symptoms of depression can precede depression, this study seeks to observe the effects of depressive symptoms and anxiety symptoms on cognitive function in healthy subjects. Methods : To recruit 50 general populations to evaluate cognitive and clinical symptoms and to find out the effects of clinical symptoms on cognitive functions, Pearson correlation and multivariate regression were conducted. Correlation analysis of subdomain cognitive function was conducted for reliability analysis. Results : Trail making test-B that evaluates the execution function correlates with depressive symptoms (r=0.300, p=0.03) and age (r=0.323, p=0.02). Depressive symptoms (β=0.304, p=0.03) and age (β=0.335, p=0.01) were significantly related to Trail making test -B (Adjusted R2=0.148). Subjective cognitive tests correlates with anxiety symptoms (r=0.434, p=0.002). In the correlation between cognitive functional items, Subjective cognitive tests was found to be correlated with other test except Spotter. Conclusions : In this study, depressive symptoms contribute independently to executive functions in addition to demographic characteristics such as age and duration of education. Given that cognitive decline is a common long-term clinical outcome in depression, we expect active early intervention and evaluation of cognitive function to be helpful.

  • A convergence study of oral health beliefs and subjective oral health awareness-knowledge factors of some university students was conducted on 216 students agreed from April 1 to June 14, 2019. Satistical analysis was performed with the mean and standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation test. The oral health beliefs were 3.87 and oral health knowledge, oral health importance measured by 5-point, oral health interest and oral health status are 11.9, 1.50, 2.36, 2.67 respectively. The need for constant oral health education so that changes in oral health beliefs of university students and subjective oral health awareness-perception ability can be improved. Oral health education programs should be developed to suit the characteristics of university students.

  • This study aimed to investigate the relationship between mental health and health risk behaviors of college students and to verify that depression has mediating effects in the relation between perceived stress and health risk behaviors. Data were obtained from the 2015 Community Health Survey conducted nationally, and the subjects of this study were 8,422 college students ranging in age from 19 to 29. Rao-Scott Chi-square test, logistic regression analysis, and Sobel test were used for data analysis. The results of the study showed that perceived stress, depression, present smoking, binge drinking, and high risk drinking of college students were associated with sex, age, and monthly household income. Smoking, binge drinking and high-risk drinking were affected by perceived stress, and depression was an influence factor of current smoking and binge drinking. Depression showed partial mediating effect between perceived stress and current smoking and between perceived stress and binge drinking. Such results suggest that a comprehensive behavioral health intervention strategy that covers mental health care of college students is necessary.
