Analyses of Elementary School Students' Epistemological Beliefs Through Investigation of Their Coping Strategy Types for Anomalous Situations in Science Classes (과학 수업에서 불일치 상황에의 대처 전략 유형 조사를 통한 초등학생들의 인식론적 신념 분석)

  • This study investigated the types of elementary school students' coping strategies for anomalous situations in science classes. Their epistemological beliefs were then analyzed on the basis of types. To do this, the students (N=75) from 2 elementary schools were asked to respond to an open-ended question about their coping strategies on anomalous situations and some of them underwent in-depth interviews. The analyses of the results indicated five types of coping strategies and were identified as follows: Abandoning, asking a teacher for help, trying the experiment again with same methods, trying the experiments again with different methods, and trying the experiment again after actively analyzing the causes. Among these, the major types were 'trying the experiment again with same methods', 'trying the experiments again with different methods', and 'asking a teacher for help'. The five types were grouped again into four categories such as 'transferring facts', 'constructing facts', 'transferring meanings', and 'constructing meanings' on the basis of the epistemological beliefs toward knowledge and the epistemological beliefs toward relation. The results revealed that 'trying the experiment again after actively analyzing the causes' was only included in 'constructing facts' and the others were included in 'transferring facts'. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

Changes in a Novice Teacher's Epistemological Framing for Facilitating Small-Group Modeling: From "Filling in Blanks" to "Social Construction of Scientific Reasoning" (소집단 모형구성 수업 진행에서 나타난 초임 과학 교사의 인식론적 프레이밍 변화 탐색 -'빈칸 채우기'에서 '사회적 추론 구성'으로-)

  • The aim of this study was to explore how a novice science teacher's epistemological framing, characterized from her modeling instruction, evolved over time. We observed that the teachers' framing changed over time, as she collaborated with researchers to plan, facilitate, and reflect on a series of lessons to support students' small-group scientific modeling. We tried to understand how such experiences contributed to the changes in her framing. One 8th grade science teacher with two years of teaching experience participated in the study. The teacher collaborated with researchers for four months to co-plan and facilitate 18 lessons that included small-group scientific modeling. She also engaged in cogenerative reflection on the lessons for 13 times. All of her lessons and reflections were video-recorded, transcribed, and qualitatively analyzed for the purpose of the study. Our findings showed that the teacher's epistemological framing, characterized from her interactions with students during modeling lessons, evolved during the study period: transitioning from an emphasis on students merely "filling in blanks" to prioritizing "constructing personal reasoning" and ultimately to focusing on the "social construction of scientific reasoning." The teacher's perception about what students are capable of changed, as she observed students during the modeling lessons, and this led to the shifts in her framing. Furthermore, through her engagement in planning, implementing, and reflecting on modeling lessons with researchers, she came to recognize the value of student collaboration in knowledge-building processes. These results can offer implications for supporting and studying teachers' epistemological framing and modeling-based teaching by partnering with them.

  • Mobile information service aims to provide some degree of effective information for real life activities of mobile users. Due to the user mobility and actual realism, it becomes very important technical issue to support an adaptive information service methodology to current situations of the terminal and/or user. This paper deals with a prefetching scheme for location-aware, out of the various context-aware which can be considered in mobile information service. It makes use of the velocity-based mobility model to shape the terminal and/or user's mobility behavior. Based on the moving speed and direction, the prefetching zone is proposed to define the number of prefetched information, so as to limit effectively the prefetched information whilst to preserve the location-aware adaptability. Using a simulator, the proposed scheme has been evaluated in the effectiveness point of view. The idea in this paper is expected to be able to extended to the other mobile service contexts, such as service time, I/O types of mobile terminals, network bandwidth.

Analysis and Comparison of Views of Nature Between East Asia and the Western World and its Meaning (동아시아·서양의 자연의 의미와 자연관 비교 분석)

  • In this study, the views and the meaning of nature between the Western world and East Asia were compared through literature analysis. In the West, it is recognized that nature and human beings are separate. Nature is understood as regular and rational. They, therefore, take the view of particle and mechanical theory. In East Asia, it is thought that nature and humans interact with each other, and take an attitude of compromise and tolerance. Since nature is recognized as an ever-changing being, they, therefore, take the position of wave theory. Scientific knowledge and concepts are accepted depending on the personal view of nature. In Korea, science education follows the view of modern western science without considering the personal pattern of cognition, though students can have various views of nature. The attitude is needed regarding the various viewpoints as rich resources in science and science education.

T'oegye's Understanding of Zhuzi's Philosophy and its Characteristics (퇴계의 주자철학에 대한 이해와 그 특색 - 리(理)의 동정(動靜)·발(發)·도(到)를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this paper is to figure out T'oegye's philosophy and its characteristics in comparison with Zhuzi's. T'oegye is well-known as the representative of Neo-confucianism in Korea. But his posterior scholars and even contemporary scholars have various viewpoints about his philosophy. So they give him some different evaluation. After Zhuzi's death 300 years later, T'oegye has accepted Zhuzi's philopophical thoughts. In addition, he has added his own philosophical insights on them. First, he indicates concretely the metaphysical activity of li through lidong that Zhuzi has mentioned in some measure. Second, under the ontological aspect of li, he explains that Four beginnings come from li. It implies that li manifests and qi follows. Finally he points out lidao--i.e. li manifests itself, about wuge in his epistemology. Here we can say that whatever his metaphysics/the theory of mind and heart, and epistemology, the whole system of T'oegye's philosophy has its theoretical coherence. He has succeeded Zhuzi's philopophical thoughts thoroughly and furthermore developed Neo-confucian theory in East Asia that has not made before.

  • 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅은 향후 USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) 환경에서 구현될 것으로 예상되며, 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅에서 RFID(Radio Frequency Identification)기술 기반의 응용 서비스들이 가장 먼저 활성화될 분야로 전망된다. RFID 분야에서의 보안은 RFID의 태그로 인한 프라이버시 침해가 가장 큰 문제점으로 인식되고 있으며, 기술적, 법적·제도적으로 개인의 프라이버시를 보장하기 위한 노력들이 진행 중이다. USN에서의 보안은 센서노드의 자원의 제약으로 인해 기존의 전통적인 보안과는 다른 관점에서의 접근이 필요하며, 키분배 및 관리, 안전한 라우팅 방법론, 센서네트워크에 대한 공격에 대한 안전한 네트워크 구축 등이 이슈들이다. 본 논문에서는 RFID와 USN의 보안 연구 대상에 대해서 살펴보고 이들에 대한 향후 연구 방향을 소개한다.

The Analysis of the Factors of the Effectiveness of Science Teacher as Perceived by Students through the Perspective of Teacher Knowledge (교사 지식의 관점에서 학생들이 인식하는 과학 교사 효과성 요인 분석)

  • This study has investigated the factors that make a science teacher effective by analyzing students' perception of teacher knowledge required in enhancing their science learning. The basic components of teacher knowledge identified by previous researchers have been confirmed through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Based on the findings of the EFA, the questionnaire has been further analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) by means of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). In addition, the differences in students' perception on the identified factors of effectiveness have also been analyzed in terms of gender and achievement level. The findings of the EFA showed that five factors of science teacher effectiveness were identified; namely, substantive knowledge, syntactic knowledge, knowledge of students' understandings, knowledge of instructional strategies, and knowledge of assessment. These five components have been divided into two categories of teacher knowledge, SMK and PCK. What we found from the CFA was the respective high correlation between substantive and syntactic knowledge, knowledge of students' understanding and instructional strategies and the low correlation between substantive knowledge and knowledge of instructional strategies. Students perceived substantive knowledge as the most effective factor, knowledge of assessment as the least effective factor. Also, there have been considerable differences in students' perception by gender and achievement level. We proposed, based on the findings, that SMK and PCK need to be integrated into a coherent manner for the effective science teaching practice. This study provides some implications for science teacher professional development and the improvement of science teacher preparation program.

  • 1. Purpose : From a viewpoint of Lee Je-ma, We consider the principle of shape(form) and image and try out a share of recognition about shape(form) and image in all its aspects. 2. Method : Especially we compared HeoJun's point of view with Lee Je-ma's point of view. 3. Result & Conclusion 1) The most important thing for an appearance of shape(form) and image is a differential Qi of sorrow- anger-joy-pleasure. 2) Lee Je-Ma chose a point of view from inside to outside in principle. 3) A method of materialism can be used when we give medical treatment. 4) Shape(form) and image is a method of constitutional diagnosis from a viewpoint of Lee Je-ma. 5) Shape(form) and image has a formal(typical) type, but the thing which is fixed do not exist, therefore partial shape(form) and image is possible. 6) We should observe a condition of mind, but objectivity and reappearance always remain.

Visual Probing of User Experience Structure: Developing a New Methodology for Value-Centered HCI (가치 중심적 HCI를 위한 새로운 방법론의 개발: 모바일 인터넷 서비스의 사용자 경험 구조를 중심으로)

  • 지금까지 HCI분야의 많은 연구들은 사용성 (Usability)을 중요한 연구 주제로 인식하여 왔다. 그러나 연구의 범위를 사용성에 한정하는 것은 HCI 분야의 잠재성을 좁히고, 사용자 경험 (User Experience)의 개념도 좁은 범위로 한정시키게 된다. 따라서 향후 HCI 분야의 연구는 정보 기술의 사용성 측면의 뿐만 아니라, 정보 기술의 사용을 통한 다양한 사용자 경험을 구조적인 관점에서 살펴보아야 한다. 즉 사용성 중심의 연구가 아닌, 보다 전반적이고 구조적인 측면에서 사용자 경험을 살펴보는 새로운 방향의 HCI 연구가 필요할 것으로 보인다. 이와 같이 사용자 경험을 보다 전반적이고 구조적인 측정에서 이해하기 위해서는 사용자가 특정 정보 기술의 사용을 통해 추구하는 가치 (Value)와 그와 같은 가치를 실현 시킬 수 있는 정보 기술의 속성 (Attribute) 및 결과 (Consequence), 그리고 속성, 결과, 가치 간 연관 관계를 구조적인 측면에서 살펴보아야 한다. 본 연구는 사용자 가치에 대한 대표적인 이론인 Means-End Chain Theory와 속성, 결과, 가치 간 연관 관계를 파악하기 위한 정성적 연구 방법론인 Laddering 기법을 기반으로 사용자 경험 구조 파악 및 가치 중심적 HCI (Value-Centered HCI)를 위한 새로운 연구 방법론을 제안하고자 한다. 또한 본 연구에서는 새롭게 제안된 방법론을 통해 모바일 인터넷 서비스에 대한 사용자 경험 구조를 도출하고, 모바일 인터넷 상황에서 도출된 결과 및 본 연구에서 새롭게 제안된 방법론의 이론적이고 실용적인 의의를 제시하고자 한다.

How does Man and Non-human beings meet? (인간과 비인간 존재는 어떻게 만나는가?)

  • Is an artificial intelligence robot, a non-human beings newly emerging in the age of technology, a threat to human beings, or a mutual cooperation or ensemble with human beings? The desire to control nature through the use of the power of science and technology is manifested in the fear that humans can annihilate themselves. This study attempts to identify the problems of Cartesian epistemology underlying these questions and fears and to answer these questions based on Merleau - Ponty 's ontological ontology using the Ontology and Latour' s ontology and technological philosophy. The cogito derived from the Cartesian philosophy became the basis of the structure of dichotomous epistemology of 'subjectivity and objectivity' based on human - reason. In the human-centered world, all non-human beings were tools or controls for humans. The problem of the modern people is not only to get help from the natural scientific methods to control the nature including man, but also to think that scientific method is the only way to understand the world. In criticizing this, Merleau-Ponty shows that the body mediates between human beings and non-human beings, and provides a possible ontological basis for the ontology. Merleau - Ponty 's phenomenological methodology and ontology are newly developed by Simondon under the influence of phenomenological philosopher and phenomenology. The relationship between human beings and nonhuman beings by Simondon appears as an ensemble of human and technical objects or a mutual co - operation of human and technical objects. In particular, Latour goes a step further in Simondon and defines all the bodies living in the world as actor-network theory, denying the core concept of modernity. Merleau - Ponty 's phenomenological view can be a new possible basis for the philosophical discussion of the technological age. We will see that the problem itself can be solved by shifting modern fear to a phenomenological attitude.
