This research was conducted to compare the rhythm reproduction abilities between older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and analyze the abilities depending on the rhythm idiom. Participants between 60-85 years of age were recruited from senior community centers, dementia prevention centers, and senior welfare centers. A total of 57 participants were included in this study: 27 diagnosed with MCI and 30 healthy older adults (HOA). The experiment was conducted individually in a private room in which a participant was given random binary time rhythm idioms and instructed to reproduce the rhythmic idioms with finger tapping. Each participant's beat production was recorded with the Beat Processing Device (BPD) for iPad. BPD calculated rhythm reproduction as measured through rhythm ratio and error among beats. Results showed marginal differences between the two groups in terms of mean scores of rhythm reproduction abilities. In terms of the rhythm ratio among beats, both groups' highest rhythm reproduction rate was for <♩ ♩>, and their lowest reproduction rate was for <♩. ♪>. In conclusion, there was no significant difference in rhythm reproduction ability between the HOA and MCI groups. However, the study found an interesting result related to performance level of rhythmic idioms. This result provides therapeutic insight for formulating rhythm tasks for older adults.
This study aimed to investigate the effects a strengths-based group counselling program had on self-esteem and career maturity of adolescents under probation. The subjects of the study were female adolescents under probation in Gwangju and were categorized into two groups: experiment group and control group consisting of 15 respectively. As a result, it was discovered that the strengths-based group counselling program had positive effects on enhancement of general and social self-esteem in the subjects while it did not have statistically significant effects on enhancement of family self-esteem. It indicates that positive relationship with parents and recovery of family functions should be encouraged to enhance the family self-esteem. Also, the strengths-based group counselling program had positive effects on planning, self-understanding, career knowledge and career preparation areas relating to career maturity while it did not have statistically significant effects on independence. It shows that to encourage the subjects to be independently prepared for career, family and society should provide more specific support for career guidance. Based on the results above, it was suggested that the strengths-based group counselling program had significant effects on self-esteem and career maturity of the subjects under probation. In conclusion, to encourage adolescents under probation to respect themselves and others, specifically plan their career and grow to be reliable and mature adults, further research on the strengths-based group counselling program is needed and diverse strategies including specific support through mentor service of college students should be developed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate music therapists' awareness of the music therapy national certification (MTNC). Online questionnaires were distributed to music therapists who voluntarily agreed to participate in this research and 143 completed surveys were collected for analysis. The questionnaire consisted of 37 questions (background information, awareness of the necessity for MTNC, expected effects of national certification, and qualification management). According to the collected data, music therapists reported that they were highly aware of the necessity for MTNC. The participants believed that excessive issueing of private licenses might deteriorate the quality of music therapy services and job opportunities. As alternatives to address private license-related issues, participants agreed with the establishment of national certification system. Given that participants did not have enough knowledge of MTNC and the MTNC may have both pros and cons, the results should be generalized with caution. Still, this study could provide basic information for further discussion on the establishment of MTNC.

The effects of therapeutic instrumental music performance (TIMP) using a ukulele were examined in adults with central nervous system damage and impaired hand functions. The participants were three adults with neurological damage who participated in 30-min sessions twice a week over 6 weeks. Changes in hand function was measured by the Box and Block Test (BBT), the 9-Hole Peg Test (9-HPT), and the Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test (JTHFT). Following the intervention, all three participants showed increases in the BBT and 9-HPT scores, indicating positive changes in fine motor coordination and dexterity. In terms of the JTHFT, all three participants showed increases in the "writing" and "card flipping" subtask scores, indicating that the intervention was effective in improving more coordinated finger movements. All participants reported the satisfaction with the intervention. They also pointed out that they were motivated to play the ukulele and that following the intervention used their affected hand more frequently in daily activities. These findings suggest that TIMP with a ukulele for patients with central nervous system damage can have positive effects on their functional hand movements and motivate these patients to practice their rehabilitation exercises.

After the program was conducted on the experimental group, quantitative analysis was conducted for comparison according to the lapse of time: before, after, and follow-up. independent sample t-analysis was used to examine homogeneity between two groups beforehand. Mixed ANOVA was also used to verify a hypothesis. In conclusion, the posttraumatic growth program has significant effects on posttraumatic growth and intentional rumination level with experienced adolescents. Findings and implications of this study were discussed.
