Gel Image Matching Using Hopfield Neural Network (홉필드 신경망을 이용한 젤 영상 정합)

  • Proteins in a cell appear as spots in a two dimensional gel image which is used in protein analysis. The spots from the same protein are in near position when comparing two gel images. Finding out the different proteins between a normal tissue and a cancer one is important information in drug development. Automatic matching of gel images is difficult because they are made from biological experimental processes. This matching problem is known to be NP-hard. Neural networks are usually used to solve such NP-hard problems. Hopfield neural network is selected since it is appropriate to solve the gel matching. An energy function with location and distance parameters is defined. The two spots which make the energy function minimum are matching spots and they came from the same protein. The energy function is designed to reflect the topology of spots by examining not only the given spot but also neighborhood spots.

The Study on Prediction of Oxidative Decomposition Potential by Comparison between Simulation and Electrochemical Methods to Develop the Binder for High-voltage Lithium-ion Batteries (고전압용 리튬이차전지 바인더 개발을 위한 시뮬레이션 및 전기화학 평가 비교를 통한 산화분해전압 예측 연구)

  • As the development of available binder in the harsh conditions is needed, we propose the proper binder for high-voltage lithium-ion secondary batteries based on the quantum chemistry modeling. The optimized structures, HOMO (Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital) energies and ionization potentials of 4 binders, which were considered from monomer to tetramer, were investigated by the semi-empirical and DFT (Density Functional Theory) calculations. The results show that the ionization potential values by calculation tend to be close to the oxidation potentials from the measurement of linear sweep voltametry (LSV). The order of oxidative resistance from high value to low value is following: poly(hexafluropropylene), poly(vinylidene fluoride), poly(methyl acrylate) and poly(acryl amide). Also these results correspond with the experimental values. Thus, we find the reason why HOMO (Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital) energy of PHFP has the highest value than other binders by analysis of HOMO orbital structures.

A divide-oversampling and conquer algorithm based support vector machine for massive and highly imbalanced data (불균형의 대용량 범주형 자료에 대한 분할-과대추출 정복 서포트 벡터 머신)

  • The support vector machine (SVM) has been successfully applied to various classification areas with a high level of classification accuracy. However, it is infeasible to use the SVM in analyzing massive data because of its significant computational problems. When analyzing imbalanced data with different class sizes, furthermore, the classification accuracy of SVM in minority class may drop significantly because its classifier could be biased toward the majority class. To overcome such a problem, we propose the DOC-SVM method, which uses divide-oversampling and conquers techniques. The proposed DOC-SVM divides the majority class into a few subsets and applies an oversampling technique to the minority class in order to produce the balanced subsets. And then the DOC-SVM obtains the final classifier by aggregating all SVM classifiers obtained from the balanced subsets. Simulation studies are presented to demonstrate the satisfactory performance of the proposed method.

Reliability Analysis of Slopes Using ANN-based Limit-state Function (인공신경망 기반의 한계상태함수를 이용한 사면의 신뢰성해석)

  • Slope stability analysis is a geotechnical engineering problem characterized by many sources of uncertainty. Some of them are connected to the uncertainties of soil properties involved in the analysis. In this paper, a numerical procedure for integrating commercial finite difference method into probabilistic analysis of slope stability is presented. Since the limit-state function cannot be expressed in an explicit form, the ANN-based response surface method is adopted to approximate the limit-state function and the first-, second-order reliability method and the Monte Carlo simulation technique are used to calculate the probability of failure. Probabilistic stability assessments for a hypothetical two-layer slope and the Sugar Creek embankment were performed to verify the application potential to the slope stability problems. The examples show the successful implementation and the possibility of the extension of the proposed procedure to the variety of geotechnical engineering problems.

Estimating the Longitudinal Change in Academic Achievements of Multicultural Adolescents by Piecewise Growth Modeling (분할함수 성장모형을 활용한 다문화 청소년의 학업성취 변화 추정 및 예측요인 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the longitudinal changes in the academic achievement of Korean adolescents who transition from elementary to middle school and examine the individual and social factors of the changes using piecewise growth modeling. For this study, the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS) data from 1st to 6th waves (4th-9th grade) were used. The results are as follows. First, the results showed that the piecewise growth function was the most appropriate method to explain changes in the academic achievement of Korean adolescents with respect to the time of vacation. Second, adolescents' academic achievement declined constantly and was greater for middle school students. Third, parental efficacy, self-esteem, and support from friends had a significant positive effect, while uninvolved parenting and acculturation stress had a significant negative effect on the initial value of academic achievement. Self-esteem and support from friends in the 4th grade prohibit its decline in the first change rate of academic achievements. Meanwhile, acculturation stress for 4th-grade students accelerates the decline of academic achievement.

타원편광분석법을 이용한 $In_xAl_{1-x}P$ 박막의 광물성 연구

  • 3~5 족 반도체 물질인 phosphorus 화합물 중 대표적인 InAlP 삼종화합물은 작은 굴절률, 큰 밴드갭, GaAs와 lattice 일치 때문에 큰 주목을 받고 있고, p-type high electron mobility transistors(p-HEMT), laser diodes 등의 고속 전자소자 및 광전 소자에 응용이 가능한 매우 중요한 물질이다. 최적의 소자 응용기술을 위해서는, 정확한 광물성 연구가 수행되어야 하지만 InxAl1-xP 화합물에 대한 유전율 함수 및 전자전이점 등의 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 1.5~6.0 eV 에너지 영역에서 각기 다른 In 조성비를 갖는 InxAl1-xP 화합물의 가유전율 함수 ${\varepsilon}={\varepsilon}_1+i{\varepsilon}_2$와 전자전이점 데이터를 보고한다. GaAs 기판 위에 molecular beam epitaxy (MBE)를 이용하여 InxAl1-xP (x=0.000, 0.186, 0.310, 0.475, 0.715, 0.831, 1.000) 박막을 성장하였고 타원편광분석기를 이용하여 유전율 함수를 측정하였다. 또한 실시간 화학적 에칭을 통하여 시료 표면에 자연산화막을 제거함으로써 순수한 InAlP의 유전율 함수를 측정할 수 있었고, 측정된 유전율 함수를 이차미분하여 In 조성비에 따른 전자전이점을 얻을 수 있었다. 얻어진 전자전이점 값을 이용하여 linear augmented Slater-type orbital method (LASTO) 를 통해 이론적 전자 밴드 구조 계산을 하였고, 이를 바탕으로 $E_0$, $E_1$, $E_2$ 전이점 지역의 여러 전자전이점($E_1$, $E_1+{\Delta}_1$, $E_0'$, $E_0'+{\Delta}_0'$, $E_2$, $E_2'$)의 특성을 정의할 수 있었고, $E_0'$$E_2$ 전이점의 에너지 값이 In 조성비가 증가함에 따라 서로 교차함을 발견할 수 있었다. 타원 편광 분석법을 이용한 유전율 함수 및 전자전이점 연구는 InAlP의 광학적 데이터베이스를 확보하는 성과와 더불어 새로운 디바이스 기술 및 광통신 산업에도 유용한 정보가 될 것이다.

  • Concrete contains numerous microcracks initially. The growth and propagation of microcracks cause failure of concrete. These processings are termed as "damage". The concepts of the continuum damage mechanics are presented and the damage evolution law and constitutive equation are derived by using the Helmholz free energy and the dissipation potential by means of the thermodynamic principles. The constitutive equation includes the effects of elasticity, damage and plasticity of concrete. The proposed model successfully predicts the nonlinear behavior of concrete subject to monotonic uniaxial and biaxial loadings.

A Study on the Selective Use of Higher Order Elements (고차 요소의 선택적 사용에 대한 연구)

  • 일차원 및 이차원의 단순한 문제에 대하여 계층 요소를 사용한 혼합 차수 유한 요소해의 정확성 및 수렴성을 조사하였다. 이러한 작업은 임의의 차수를 가진 블록들을 조합하여 요소를 구성함으로서 이루어질 수 있다. 블록간의 연결성이 유지될 수 있는 블록의 구성과 요소 생성에 대하여는 코드개발과 관련하여 설명하고 있으며, 서로 다른 차수를 가진 인접 블록간의 해의 연속성에 대하여는 계층 요소의 구성과 관련하여 서술되었다. 수치적 결과는 블록의 차수를 잘 선택함으로서 유한 요소해의 수렴성과 정확성을 증가시킬 수 있음을 보여주고 있으며, 고차 요소 영역을 너무 많이 할당하여 선형 요소의 영역이 너무 적을 경우에는 경계 조건에 따라 오차가 내부로 전파됨을 보여준다. 또한 세분화된 요소에 대한 고차 보간의 경우, 해의 수렴성이 저해될 수 있음이 발견되었다.

Finite Difference Simulation of Two-dimensional Waves Generated by Numerical Wavemaker (수치조파기에 의해 생성되는 2차원 파도의 유한차분 시뮬레이션)

  • Unsteady two-dimensional nonlinear waves which are generated by the numerical wavemaker of plunging type are numerically simulated using a finite difference method in rectangular grid system. Two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and the continuity equation are used for the computations. Irregular leg lengths and stars are employed near the boundaries of body and free surface to satisfy the boundary conditions. Marker-density function method is adopted for the simulation of wave breaking phenomena, and the computations are carried out with various wave amplitudes and two section shapes of wavemaker. The computation results are compared with other existing computational and experimental results, and the agreement between the experimental data and the computation results is good.

Optimization of Injection Molding Process using the IDESIGN Program (IDESIGN 프로그램을 이용항 사출성형공정의 최적화)

  • 사출성형품의 품질특성으로 외관, 치수, 기계적 강도 등이 있으나 조립부품으로써 사 될경우에는 치수가 주요한 품질이 된다. 성형품은 용융수지의 특성상 사출공정 중 수축을 일으키므로 이를 고려해서 금형설계가 이루어지지만 실제 사출과정에서 공정변수를 최적화 하여 관리하지 않으면 허용오차 내의 치수를 얻기가 힘들다. 본 논문에서는 주요조립부의 치수가 허용오차 내에서 얻어지도록 설계시 적용된 수축률과 측정된 수축률의 차이를 목적 함수로 하여 최소화 시키며 반복이차계획 알고리즘을 채택한 IDESIGN 프로그램을 이용해 최적 사출성형조건을 구하였다. 제약조건은 성형품의 부위별 수축률 편차 및 싱크마크 깊이 가 공정변수의 부등호 제약식으로 도출되었고 성형이 이루어지는 공정변수의 상하한 값이 최대 및 최소 경계값으로 적용되었다.
