  • The subject specialization room will be able to support university library users who are inclined to use the general reading room. This study is the research of the area planning for university library's subject specialization room. For the evaluation, 431 users from 15 university libraries in 14 universities located across Seoul were surveyed. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS. Frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, f-test were used. Results of the study are as follow. Subject specialization rooms in university libraries can be classified via the analysis of spatial characteristics. According to the area ratio of data space and reading space in a subject specialization room, the subject room can be separated into data-loaning and data-reading types. Old libraries are more likely to be data-loaning types, where reading room is small and there are a lot of bookshelves. The annual increase in library collections causes space for bookshelves to decrease. As a result, space for reading has been gradually transformed into space for stacking data. It is necessary to introduce ways to maintain enough space for both reading and stacking data. One way includes movable compact shelving, which can partially replace existing fixed shelves.

  • This study is to analyze a cost-benefit and a cost-effectiveness on the basis of number full-text downloaded from IDEAL in the electronic journals consortium of Y University Library during 2000. The result of this study shows that Y University Library used more the combined print and electronic journals than only electronic journals, and in the case of the analysis on the cost-benefit, there was no benefit, but the cost-effectiveness was very high. Based upon the result of this study, it suggests that academic libraries request a trial from the information agency and carry out user instruction analysis of varied use statistics, user satisfaction survey so as to promote use of electronic journals.

  • This study is a basic study for establishing a comprehensive operation plan for the Incheon Global Campus Library in preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution and the post-corona era. Based on this, it was intended to propose a direction for establishing a comprehensive operation plan in the future. As a result of the study, in the case of the first collection, a mid- to long-term plan for continuous expansion of the collection is required, and in particular, it seems that the expansion of major-related collections is necessary. In the case of the second service, it is necessary to support users' research by providing information services customized for each stage of research by users, information services customized for researchers, and research support services for departments, and it is necessary to provide information utilization education programs. Third, in the case of space, IGC users have very high demands for learning and research space, so it is necessary to improve education and related spaces that users want through space reorganization in the future. It is also necessary to expand the creative collaboration space as a place closely related to the lives of students, such as rest, etc. Lastly, in order to activate the homepage in relation to the homepage and information system, it is necessary to first expand the various contents and up-to-date data that users want on the homepage. In addition, it seems that the domestic electronic journal and DB provision plan should be implemented.

  • This study extracted quality control factors for invigorating Institutional Repository operations, and re-extracted key quality control factors with significant influence among them. Furthermore, this study developed an operating model reflecting an improvement scheme of these key quality control factors, and estimated how much effective the operating model was to the user. As a result of inspecting satisfaction for IR operating model and the general system, it has been found that librarians' satisfaction for them is higher than that of the general user. Korea's universities prefer a proxy submission mode by librarians to a self-archiving submission mode by writers. Therefore, based on the operation model developed by this study, it is suggested that Institutional Repository operation can be actively invigorated with librarians of these universities as central players.

This study analyze image of library and Information science students who trying to find a job in library fields about diverse types of library and information centers by Positioning technique. As a result of Similarity cognition analysis by multidimensional Scaling and K-means clustering, it was found that students recognize that public, national, university, school library are similar, on the other hand, portal company and special library are different from those types. In the jobs, user service jobs and technical service jobs are recognized as separated clusters, and cultural program job is also recognized dissimilarly from those clusters. By the way, images about work satisfaction and stability of employment shows high in national library; high wage shows high in portal company; employee's growth potential shows high in special library; job importance shows high in reference service jobs; difficulty shows high in content's job. Anyway, in the workplace selection, almost students regard stability of employment as top priorities, accordingly they prefers public library at most. Such a preference concentration tendency is strongly appeared in local university students than in metropolitan area students as a result of Pearson's chi-square test.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify users behavioral characteristics for using the online catalog opened in May 1996 at Duksung Women's University Library. 278 student users were surveyed from October 4th to 8th in 1996. Major findings are as follows. 1. Most users$(87.4\%)$ prefer the online catalog to the card catalog and regard the online catalog easy to use$(89.6\%)$ 2. $(65.8\%)$ of users are active users who frequently use the online catalog at least 10 times or more per semester. 3. $10.4\%$ of users feel the online catalog difficult because they do not know how to use it. 4. Most users prefer the menu search mode among menu, command and fill-in-blank search modes offered by DISCOVER. The most preferred access points are the title for known-item search and subject headings for subject search. 5. User's attitude toward the online catalog is very favorable$(83.5\%)$, however, the search success rate is rather low $(77.0\%)$ compared to that of the card catalog $(87.0\%)$ 6. The title and author are regarded easy to use among access points offered by DISCOVER. Classification numbers and call numbers are the least easy access points to use. 7. Since users show lack of knowledge of how to use the online catalog, education and training programs on the online catalog use for users are needed. 8. Users showed different search patterns for pursuing different search goals. The most preferred access points are the title for known-item search and subject headings for subject search. These search behaviors are different from those in using the card for both the known-item search and subject search was the title.

  • To understand the use of the ebooks among undergraduate students, a questionnaire was devised and collected data from 466 respondents. The level of ebook and its service awareness appears to be low, and only about 30% of the students have used ebooks in the past. Students access ebooks primarily through the library homepage. 73% of the users read 3 ebooks and below. The subject and area of reading is fairly spread, however literary works and genre fiction were most popular And the purpose is split into academic and private reading. Most of the users lack of knowledge about additional functions. Overall satisfaction level is low. Discomfort and ebooks illiteracy constitute the major reasons of nonuse, however about 88% of the nonusers show willingness to use in the future. According to the interview, active users are familiar with the screen reading as well as perceived advantages of ebooks. Nontheless, their satisfaction level is still low. Based on the results, recommendations for creating awareness, education, production development and service evaluation are suggested to promote the ebooks use.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among the factors affecting unanswered reference/information service and to suggest alternative steps which would overcome the unsatisfactory outcome in reference/information service policy. A questionnaire on the quality of reference/information service was developed to survey librarians and users in 10 different private and national university libraries. About half of 500 responses indicated dissatisfaction with the reference/information service and 10 variables were eventually identified as the primary factors which have significant relationships with users's satisfaction. Collection variables were identified as major factors associated with the unanswered service but the analysis of each factor's influence on a reference/information transaction has shown that there exist significant relationships among variables of librarian and environmental variables and the users' satisfaction. Tiered or non-tiered reference/information service showed positive relationships with collection and environmental factors.

  • The study designs and implements a KORMARC/EAD integrated system for the Myongji Digital Library Collections. The purpose of this paper is to design the metadata to Myongji Korean History Collections to provide digital information of high quality to clients, and to develop and implement a model for managing digital library collections. In order to test the model and the quality of the derived metadata, we built a metadata management system, which is connected to the existing KORMARC system. The system consists of two modules- a retrieval and an input module. While in the retrieve mode, one can retrieve KORMARC records of books and archival items, with links to modified EAD files for archival items or to image files for books, in the input mode, one can type two types of data such as a catalog data and an inventory data. Finally, we evaluated the proposed system via mail questionnaires, and propose three suggestions to make this system a much more comprehensive and effective system.
