For predicting eigenfrequency and initial growth rate of combustion instabilities in lean premixed gas turbine combustor, linear thermoacoustic analysis model was developed in the current paper. A model combustor was selected for the model validation, which has well-defined inlet and outlet conditions and a relatively simple geometry, compared to the combustor in the previous works. Analytical linear equations for thermoacoustic waves were derived for a given combustion system. It was found that the prediction results showed a good agreement with the measurements, even though there was underestimation for instability frequencies. This underestimation was more obvious for a longer flame (i.e. wider temperature distribution) than for a shorter flame.

In this study, an analysis technique using static condensation is proposed for an efficient local nonlinear static analysis. The static condensation method is a model reduction method based on the degrees of freedom, and the analysis model is divided into a target part and a condensed part to be omitted. In this study, the nonlinear and linear parts were designated to the target and the omitted parts, respectively, and both the stiffness matrix and load vector corresponding to the linear part were condensed into the nonlinear part. After model condensation, the reduced model comprising the stiffness matrix and the load vector for the nonlinear part is constructed, and only this reduced model was updated through the Newton-Raphson iteration for an efficient nonlinear analysis. Finally, the efficiency and reliability of the proposed analysis technique were presented by applying it to various numerical examples.
The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) is under development to provide a monitoring of ocean-color around the Korean Peninsula from geostationary platforms. It is planned to be loaded on Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) of Korea. In this study, the radiometric model of GOCI, which is constructed based on the functional model of sub-system, is introduced. Non-linearity for each channel is analyzed in terms of linear gain and nonlinear gain by using the radiometric model. The non-linearity characteristic is validated by using test data which have been achieved during ground test at payload level. The non-linearity $G^3$/b shows identical characteristic for all channels.

Higher order nonlinear transfer functions are applied to model the nonlinear responses obtained Inn dynamic analysis of single degree of freedom systems (SDOF) subjected to wave and current loadings. The structural systems are subjected to single harmonic, two wave combination and irregular wave loading. Three different sources of nonlinearities are examined for each of the wave loading condition and it is shown that the nonlinear response appear at the resonance frequencies of the SDOF even when virtually no wave energy exists at those resonance frequencies. Higher order nonlinear transfer functions based on Volterra series representation are used to model the nonlinear responses mainly f3r the flexible systems and clearly shows the degrees of nonlinearity either as quadratic or cubic.

In this study, an analysis technique of hybrid girder considering nonlinearity of steel-concrete contact surface is presented. Steel-concrete hybrid girder shows partial-interaction behavior due to the deformation of shear connectors, slip and detachment at the interface, and cracks under the applied loads. Therefore, the partial-interaction approach becomes more reasonable. Contact surface is modeled by interface element and analyzed nonlinearly because of cost of time and effort to detailed model and analysis. Steel and Concrete are modeled considering non-linearity of materials. Material property of contact surface is obtained from push-out test and input to interface element. For the constitutive models, Drucker-Prager and smeared cracking model are used for concrete in compression and tension, respectively, and a von-Mises model is used for steel. This analysis technique is verified by comparing it with test results. Using verified analysis technique, various analyses are performed with different parameters such as nonlinear material property of interface element and prestress. The results are compared with linear analysis result and analysis result with the assumption of full-interaction.

This paper suggests the design and analysis of the fuzzy sliding mode control for a nonlinear system using Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model. In this control scheme, identifying procedure that the input gain matrices in a T-S fuzzy model are manipulated into the same one is needed. The input disturbances generated in the identifying procedure are resolved by incorporating the disturbance treatment method of the conventional sliding mode control. The proposed control strategy can also treat the input disturbances that can not be linearized in the linearization procedure of T-S fuzzy modeling. Design example for the nonlinear system, an inverted pendulum on a cart, demonstrates the utility and validity of the proposed control scheme.
As many seismic codes for various facilities are changed into a performance based design code, demand for a reliable nonlinear response-history analysis (RHA) arises. However, the equivalent linear analysis has been used as a standard approach since 1970 in the field of site response analysis. So, the reliability of nonlinear RHA should be provided to be adopted in replace of equivalent linear analysis. In this paper, the reliability of nonlinear RHA is reviewed for a layered soil layer using Loma Prieta earthquake records in 1989. For this purpose, the appropriate way for selecting nonlinear soil models and the effect of base boundary condition for 3D analysis are evaluated. As a result, there is no significant differences between equivalent linear and nonlinear RHA. In case of 3D analysis, absorbing boundary condition should be applied at base to prevent rocking motion of the whole model.

This study investigates the dynamic instability of strength-limited bilinear single degree of freedom (SDF) systems under seismic excitation. The strength-limited bilinear hysteretic model best replicates the hysteretic behavior of the steel moment resisting frames. To estimate the dynamic instability of SDF systems, the collapse strength ratio is used, which is the yield-strength reduction factor when collapse occurs. Statistical studies are carried out to estimate median collapse strength ratios and those dispersions of strength-limited bilinear SDF systems with given natural periods, hardening stiffness ratios, post-capping stiffness ratios, ductility and damping ratios ranging from 2 to 20% subjected to 240 earthquake ground motions recorded on stiff soil sites. Equations to calculate median and standard deviation of collapse strength ratios in strength-limited bilinear SDF systems are obtained through nonlinear regression analysis. By using the proposed equations, this study estimated the probabilistic distribution of collapse strength ratios, and compared this with the exact values from which the accuracy of the proposed equations was verified.
