The greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum, is an economically important pest for greenhouse crops because they cause direct damage by feeding on plant nutrients and indirect damage as transmits many virus vectors. It has recently become a serious problem because of the continuous use of insecticide resulting in resistance among greenhouse whitefly population. To overcome these problems, in this study, the biological characteristics and virulence of an entomopathogenic fungus isolated from the cadaver of nymph greenhouse whitefly were investigated. Isolated fungus was identified as Isaria fumosorosea by morphological examinations and genetic identification using sequences of the ITS, ${\beta}$-tubulin, and EF1-${\alpha}$ regions. This fungus was named as I. fumosorosea SDTv and tested for the virulence against nymphs T. vaporariorum and the cold activity, the thermotolerance and the stability of UV-B irradiation on conidia. Mortality rate of greenhouse whitefly showed from 84 to 100% and the virulence increased with increasing conidial concentrations, $1{\times}10^5$ to $10^8$ conidia/ml. Conidia were stable at $35^{\circ}C$, 0.1 $J/cm^2$ of UV irradiation and germinated after 8 days at $4^{\circ}C$. Additionally, the activities of chitinases and proteases produced by I. fumosorosea SDTv were varied according to the medium. In conclusion, I. fumosorosea SDTv which showed high mortality rate against greenhouse whitefly will be used effectively in the integrated pest management programs against the greenhouse whitefly.
The research was investigated to determine the effect of irradiation or blanching either alone or in combination on the shelf-life of juices of Spuriopinella bracycarpar during storages. The juices was made from fresh or blanced Spuriopinella bracycarpar and gamma irradiated at the doses (0.5 kGy to 5 kGy). Microbial growth, color change, vitamin C, and sensory evaluation were evaluated during storage at 4 and $25^{\circ}C$. Blanched juices had little effect on the inhibition of microbial growth compared to that of fresh juices. However, significant reduction of microbial counts was observed in the 0.5 kGy irradiation of both juices and inhibition efficiency was greatly increased when irradiated juices was stored at $4^{\circ}C$ rather than at room temperature. Fresh juices without irradiation were little different from the irradiated fresh juices until 20d storage on color change because the juices was rapidly browned immediately after getting the juices from extractor, but blanched juices showed more bright and clear color than that of fresh juices. However, irradiated blanched juices showed greatly reduced the L, a, and b value compared to the non-irradiated blanched juices during storage. The loss of vitamin C from non-irradiated fresh juices was increased during storage and the irradiated fresh juices had little effect on the vitamin C change compared to the non-irradiated fresh juices. However, blanched juices showed less reduction of vitamin C than fresh juices and the irradiated blanched juices had little difference on the vitamin C change compared to the non-irradiated blanched juices, and both treatment showed less vitamin C loss at $4^{\circ}C$ storage. Fresh juces showed more strong grass flavor and biterness than blanched juices and irradiated fresh juices showed little difference on brightness, grass flavor, bitterness, freshness and acceptability, but irradiated blanched juices had better sensory evaluation on grass flavor, bitterness, freshness, and acceptability than non-irradiated branched juices.
This study investigated microbial populations and the sensory quality of sikhae including globefish (GLS), flounder (FLS), gastropods (GAS) and whelks (WHS) during storage at 4C for 16 d following fermentation at 10C for 4 d. General bacterial numbers increased to 102 in GLS and FLS, and to 1045 in WHS and GAS after the 20 d fermentation/storage period. Lactic acid bacteria increased to 108 log cycle in GLS and FLS after 10 d ripening time, and reached this level in GAS and WHS after 15 d and 20 d, respectively. After 20 days the number of lactic acid bacteria in each of the four samples was 108. There were 104105 yeast cells/g in each of the four samples after 20 d. The number of Leuconostoc increased to over 108 log cycle after 10 d in GLS and FLS, and 15 days in GAS for WHS the increase was to 107 log cycle. The pH values of GLS, FLS, GAS and WHS 4.42, 4.56, 4.31 and pH 4.26, respectively. The Sikhae acidity for all four samples ranged from 1.551.85%. From the sensory evaluation the overall acceptability was in the order of FLS > GLS > GAS > WHS.

This study discusses the applicability of environmental friendly EVA based butyl rubber self-adhesive waterproof sheet designed to prevent corrosion of large scale pipes used in the water treatment facilities during th water treatment process. The experiments conducted tested the waterproofing sheet's adhesion strength on the steel surface of the pipes and checked for whether the material has the proper response properties against the various environmental conditions. In addition, it the sheet adhered to the steel pipe was to see if the adhesion hold against the water pressure due to the ingress of inflow water. Finally, the waterproofing sheet's adhesion strength was tested on a rusted steel surface to confirm whether the material has the necessary properties to secure stable adhesion strength and prevent corrosion of steel pipes at the same time during the process of installation or maintenance. As a result, the self-adhesive waterproof sheets showed that all attachments in the untreated, long term pressuring, immersion in chemical substance (hydrochloric acid, hypochlorous acid, sodium hydroxide), low temperature ($-20^{\circ}C$) conditions showed a adhesion performance of higher than 1.5N/mm, which is the performance standard of KS F 4934. Also, in the testing to check for the adhesion property against inverse water pressure, it was observed that the adhesion failure did not occur even up to $3.0N/mm^2$ pressure. Also, in the process of assessing the adhesion performance on rusted steel surface, specimens after 12 hours of corrosion treatment was shown to have 2.1N/mm, and specimens after 168 hours of corrosion treatment was shown to have 2.0N/mm adhesion strength performance.

The objective of this study was to investigate the physicochemical, microbiological and sensory properties of food additive-free grilled pork products manufactured using loin (T1), tender loin (T2) and ham (T3). The samples were heated for 30 min at $60^\circC$, and then 50 min for $150^\circC$. After cooling, vacuum packaged grilled pork samples was stored at $4\pm$$1^\circC$ for 40 days. The pH values of grilled pork samples ranged from 5.92 (T1) to 6.10 (T3) at the initial storage time, and from 6.28 (T1) to 6.60 (T3) after 40 days. The water holding capacities (%) was 85.99~93.24% for T1, 85.26~93.89% for T2 and 89.11~94.67% for T3, all of which were slightly higher than those of other pork products. The shear force values of T2 were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of the other pork products throughout the storage period. The TBARS and VBN values of T2 were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of T1 and T3. With regard to microorganisms, all grilled pork samples was in good condition, showing 1.93~3.48 log10 CFU/g via total plate counts, and 1.74~3.48 log10 CFU/g for lactic acid bacteria throughout the storage period. Regarding sensory evaluation, the scores of overall acceptability in all products were above 5.0 points through 40 days of storage.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the antibacterial effect of films on shelf-life and microbiological Safety of pork meat. Effects of antimicrobial films against total aerobic bacteria, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella Typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus in pork meat were evaluated during storage of 14 days at $5^{\circ}C,\;10^{\circ}C\;and\;15^{\circ}C$. Antimicrobial films were developed with addition of a natural substance, wasabi extracts(Wasabia japonica). At $5^{\circ}C$ storage, growth of total aerobic bacteria, E. coli O157:H7, L. monocytogenes were inhibited higher than at 10 and $15^{\circ}C$. Especially, the numbers of S. Typhimurium and S. aureus were increased gradually at $5^{\circ}C$ even in the control sample, and it takes more than 14 days to increase in every sample upto 6 $log_{10}cfu/g$. The higher antimicrobial effects of the films were observed at storage of $5^{\circ}C$ than at $10^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C$. There was a limit of a single treatment of antimicrobial film to prolong shelf-life of pork meat. The synergistic effect of antimicrobial film were observed with addition of refrigeration at $5^{\circ}C$.
Pear cultivar 'Supergold' (Pyrus pyrifolia var. culta Nakai) was originated from the cross between 'Chuwhangbae' and 'Manpungbae' with the aims of improving the fruit quality of 'Chuwhangbae' cultivar at Pear Research Station of National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science, Rural Development Administration in 1994. 'Supergold' was preliminarily selected in 2002 and named in 2008. The tree shows a vigorous growth habit and semi-spread characters like as 'Manpungbae'. Furthermore, it has sufficient flowers and carries abundant pollen grains, so it can also be used as a pollinator. 'Supergold' is highly resistant to black leaf spot (Alternaria kikuchiana) in the field condition. The optimum harvest time is around Sep. 11th, which is ahead of 'Whangkeumbae' about 5 days in the harvest period. The fruit shape is oblate and fruit skin color is greenish-white at harvesting time. The average weight of fruit is 570 g, and the soluble solids content is $13.6\;^{\circ}Brix$. The flesh is very soft and juicy, and renders good eating quality. Shelf life is about 6 months under the cold storage condition. To determine the self-incompatibility (SI) genotype of 'Supergold' pear cultivar, it was crossed with other cultivars of which SI genotypes have already known. The result of cross-pollinations of 'Supergold' with other cultivars showed relatively high rates of fruit set from 64.5% to 91.0%, except for the cross with pollens of 'Nijisseiki' that represented only 28.8% of fruiting rate. Although sometimes the stigma of 'Supergold' crossed with 'Hayatama', 'Chojuro', and 'Nijisseiki' showed malformed pollen tube tips, 'Supergold' is generally supposed to have cross-compatibility with all other pollen donor cultivars. It is considered that the S-allele of 'Supergold' is $S_3S_4$, which is based on the result of PCR-RFLP.

In order to reduce the effects of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the South Korean government has announced a special platform of technologies as part of an effort to minimize global climate change. To further this effort, the Korean government has pledged to increase low-carbon and carbon neutral resources for biofuel derived from biomass to replace fossil and to decrease levels of carbon dioxide. In general, second generation biofuel produced form woody biomass is expected to be an effective avenue for reducing fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in road transport. It is important that under the new Korean initiative, pilot scale studies evolve practices to produce biomass-to-liquid (BTL) fuel. This study reports the quality characteristics of F-T(Fischer-Tropsch) diesel for production of BTL fuel. Synthetic F-Tdiesel fuel can be used in automotive diesel engines, pure or blended with automotive diesel, due to its similar physical properties to diesel. F-T diesel fuel was synthesized by Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) process with syngas($H_2$/CO), Fe basedcatalyst in low temperature condition($240^{\circ}C$). Synthetic F-T diesel with diesel compositions after distillation process is consisted of $C_{12}{\sim}C_{23+}$ mixture as a kerosine, diesel compositions of n-paraffin and iso-paraffin compounds. Synthetic F-T diesel investigated a very high cetane number, low aromatic composition and sulfur free level compared to automotive diesel. Synthetic F-T diesel also show The wear scar of synthetic F-T diesel show poor lubricity due to low content of sulfur and aromatic compounds compared to automotive diesel.
To clarify the effect of storage temperature on the morphological and histological changes of plaice, Paralichthys olivaceus muscle at early stages after killing, the changes in breaking strength of muscle, morphological observation of myofibrils and histological observation of extracellular spaces during storage at $0^{\circ}C\;and\;10^{\circ}C$ were studied. The maximum breaking strength of samples stored at $0^{\circ}C$ was reached within 10hrs and then it dropped significantly (p<0.05) from 10hrs to 25hrs of storage. However, breaking strength was not increased in fresh muscle stored at $10^{\circ}C$ and gradually decreased after 10hrs storage. In myofibrils prepared from dorsal muscle immediately after death, A-band, I-band, H-band and Z-line in sarcomere were clearly distinguishable from each other. Due to muscle contraction, it was not easy to distinguish H-band from I-band observed in sarcomere stored at $0^{\circ}C$ after 10hrs storage. But, in the case of samples stored at $10^{\circ}C$, H-band could be observed dimly until 15hrs of storage. The changes in morphological myofibrils were closely related to increase of breaking strength. No extracellular space was observed among muscle cells immediately after killing. Stored samples at $0^{\circ}C$ showed extracellular spaces after 15hrs storage. On the other hand, samples stored at $10^{\circ}C$ didn't show any extracellular spaces until 15hrs storage and showed extracellular spaces after 24hrs storage. It was thought that the post-mortem tenderization of plaice muscle was closely related to the gradually disintegration of the extracellular matrix structure after killing.
Based on surplus production models using fishery data for the last 20 years, a stock assessment was conducted for the small yellow croaker in Korean waters. The maximum sustainable yields (MSY) from the Schaefer and Fox models were estimated to be 37,000 metric tons (mt) and 33,450 mt. Zhang's model using time-series biomass with instantaneous coefficients of fishing mortality (F) and using time-series biomass and catch yielded MSY estimates of 45,328 mt and 40,160 mt, respectively. A yield-per-recruit analysis showed that the current yield per recruit of about 20g with F= 1.11 $yr^{-l}$, where the age at first capture $(t_c)$ is 0.604, was much lower than the maximum possible yield per recruit of 43g. Fixing $t_c$ at the current level and reducing fishing intensity (F) from 1.11 $yr^{-l}$ to 0.4 $yr^{-l}$ yielded only a small increase in predicted yield per recruit, from 20 to 25g. However, estimated yield per recruit increased to 43g by increasing $(t_c)$ from the current age (0.604) to age three with F fixed at the current level. This age at first capture corresponded to the optimal length which was obtained from the $F_{0.1}$ method. According to the analysis of stock recovery strategies employing the Zhang model, the optimum equilibrium biomass $(B^*_{MSY})$ which produces the maximum yield could be achieved after approximately five years at the lower fishing intensity (F=0.5).
