  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among the parent-adolescent communication styles, self-esteem, depression and career decision-making styles. The subjects were 399 middle school students and 366 high school students in four middle schools and two high schools in metropolitan and small towns for one month from July 1, 2017. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation analysis. Multiple regression was used to see how parent-adolescent communication styles, self esteem, and depression affect the career decision-making style. As a result, first, open communication with mothers has a statistically significant effect on the rational career decision-making style and open communication with fathers has a statistically significant effect on the intuitive career decision-making style of adolescents. Second, self-esteem of adolescents showed a positive correlation with rational career decision-making style and negative correlation with dependent career decision-making style, and depression showed a positive correlation with dependent career decision-making style. The results may help to understand the relationship among the parent-adolescent communication styles, self-esteem, depression and career decision-making styles and be used for counseling intervention.

  • Based on the case of collaboration between large companies and startups, this study suggests the importance of establishing mutual cooperation and trust relationships for the success of open innovation strategy from the perspective of cooperative game theory. It also provides implications for how this can be implemented. Due to information asymmetry and differences in organizational culture and decision-making structures between large companies and startups, collaboration is likely to proceed in the form of non-cooperative games among players in general open innovation, leading to the paradox of open innovation, which lowers the degree of innovation. Accordingly, this study conducted a case study on collaboration between large company 'G' and startup 'S' based on the research question "How did we successfully promote open innovation through cooperative game-type collaboration?" The study found that successful open innovation requires (1) setting clear collaboration goals to solve the organizational problem between large companies and startups, (2) supporting human resources for qualitative growth of startups to solve reliability problems, (3) leading to strategic investment and joint promotion of new projects to solve the profit distribution problem. This study is significant in that it contributes to expanding the discussion of the success factors of open innovation to the importance of interaction and strategic judgment considering the organizational culture and decision-making structure among players, and empirically confirming the success conditions of open innovation from the perspective of cooperative game theory.

  • This study aimed to reveal factors that contribute to the creation of collective intelligence (CI) and to provide a cornerstone for future studies on this subject. We hypothesized that effects of the complexity and meaningfulness of the task, diversity, openness to experience, independence, decentralization, and the use of information and communication technology (ICT) are preconditions for the creation of CI. To investigate these hypotheses, we surveyed 200 individuals in the research and development-based manufacturing industry and collected a total of 185 valid responses. The results of the analysis showed that the meaningfulness of the task, openness to experience, independence, decentralization, and the use of ICT had positive effects on CI. Both perceived dissimilarity and value diversity had negative effects on CI. When all variables were included, their significance for the creation of CI showed the following order: use of ICT, the meaningfulness of the task, openness to experience, perceived dissimilarity, and value difference. The theoretical and empirical implications of these results were discussed.

  • Purpose: We analyzed how clinical nurses in Korea perceive terminally ill patients' medical decision-making. Methods: The Q-methodology which analyzes the subjectivity of each item was used. We selected 34 Q-statements among those provided by each of 37 subjects and grouped them into a shape of normal distribution using a 9 point scale. The collected data were analyzed using a QUANL PC program. Results: Four types of perception toward medical decision-making were identified. Type I focuses on patient participation, and Type II emphasizes the role of health professionals. Type III is characterized by an open-minded culture toward death, and Type IV values the role of family members. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate the need for development of a multi-disciplinary curriculum medical decision-making and death for medical and nursing students.
