  • There is a vast field of application for RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) technology. In the case of hospitals, RFID can be used for organizing patient data. Generally, patient data has been handled with medical cards. In order to look up data about a patient, the medical card would have to be found first, within a lot of other medical cards, by hand or with a computer. This is a very inconvenient system. Also, if the card is searched by the name of the patient, fatal medical accidents may occur in cases of mix-ups. If remote RFID Tag monitoring systems are applied in this case, the patient data would be accessible in the hospital. This article will discuss the grafting of RFID systems and wireless data communicating technology. The EM4095 chip, which uses 125KHz carrier waves was used in this study. And a Bluetooth module was added for wireless data communication. The ATMEGA128 microcomputer was used to control the RFID system and wireless module. A LCD monitor was connected to the extension port for nurses to view patient data, and also, the same information was displayed on PC monitors for doctors to see. The circuit was designed to consume minimal amounts of electricity for portability, and to transmit Tag ID's in environments with a lot of noise. The article is concluded with a diagram of the whole system, and performance of each data transmitting section has been analyzed.

  • Recently, a plastic surgery hospital in Seoul, has been raided following suspicions that ghost surgery was performed by an unauthorized substitute surgeon on a chinese woman who lapsed into a death. Following the incident, an organization to eradicate ghost surgery was created in March by Consumers Korea, founded to protect consumer rights, and the Korea Alliance of Patients Organization. The organization has received reports of illegal medical practices. To substitute another physician without the patient's consent and without his knowledge of the substitution is fraud and deceit and a violation of a basic ethical concept. The patient as a human being is entitled to choose his own physician and he should be permitted to acquiesce in or refuse to accept the substitution. It should be noted that it is the operating surgeon to whom the patient grants his consent to perform the operation. The patient is entitled to the services of the particular surgeon with whom he contracts. The surgeon, in accepting the patient, obligates himself to utilize his personal talents in the performance of the operation to the extent required by the agreement creating the physician-patient relationship. He cannot properly delegate to another the duties which the patient authorizes him to perform personally. 'Ghost surgery' comes under Article 257(Inflicting Bodily Injury on Other or on Lineal Ascendant) of the Criminal Code. Substitution another physician without the patient's consent and without his knowledge of the substitution shall be performed Inflicting Bodily Injury. This is a controversial issue that'ghost surgery' comes under Article 347(Fraud) of the Criminal Code. It maybe controversial that operation substituted by another physician without the patient's consent and without his knowledge of the substitution becomes the component of Fraud. Also, Ghost surgery' comes under Article 27 (Prohibition of Unlicensed Medical Practice, etc.), Article 22 (Medical Records, etc.), Article 33 (Establishment) of the Medical Service Act. The surgeon's obligation to the patient requires him to perform the surgical operation: (1) within the scope of authority granted him by the consent to the operation; (2) in accordance with the terms of the contractual relationship; (3) with complete disclosure of all facts relevant to the need and the performance of the operation; and (4) to utilize his best skill in performing the operation.

  • In this study, the convergent relation between perception of patient safety culture and safety nursing activity was investigated to prevent safety accidents and prepare data of nursing intervention for patient safety. Nurses in B City who signed on the written consent participated in this study between February 16 and 28, 2015. A total of 266 copies were collected and were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 program. The mean score of patient safety culture was 3.60 on a scale of 0 to 5, and safety nursing activity, 4.28. The subcategory of perception of patient safety culture, which included the accident report frequency and patient safety level positively (+) influenced safety nursing activity. Therefore, effective communications and report systems in hospitals may be necessary to enhance patient safety culture. Education programs of patient safety should be developed and provided to nurses in hospitals to enhance the levels of patient safety management and their services.

  • Falls are fatal accidents that occur more than 420,000 times a year worldwide. Therefore, to study patients with falls, we found the association between extrinsic injury codes and principal diagnosis S-codes of patients with falls, and developed a prediction model to predict extrinsic injury codes based on the data of principal diagnosis S-codes of patients with falls. In this study, we received two years of data from 2020 and 2021 from Institution A, located in Gangneung City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and extracted only the data from W00 to W19 of the extrinsic injury codes related to falls, and developed a prediction model using W01, W10, W13, and W18 of the extrinsic injury codes of falls, which had enough principal diagnosis S-codes to develop a prediction model. 80% of the data were categorized as training data and 20% as testing data. The model was developed using MLP (Multi-Layer Perceptron) with 6 variables (gender, age, principal diagnosis S-code, surgery, hospitalization, and alcohol consumption) in the input layer, 2 hidden layers with 64 nodes, and an output layer with 4 nodes for W01, W10, W13, and W18 exogenous damage codes using the softmax activation function. As a result of the training, the first training had an accuracy of 31.2%, but the 30th training had an accuracy of 87.5%, which confirmed the association between the fall extrinsic code and the main diagnosis S code of the fall patient.

Also, there is an other additional issue which is the patients risk management. Uijeongbu ST. Mary's hospital Nuclear Medicine department has been changed many work process after PET-CT introduction and renovation of its place since 2008. Therefore, modified structure and the way of existing work process have contained risk factors. The purpose of this study would be the appropriate risk management process while imaging examination process, the removal risk factors and improved activities through the analysis risk factors. Materials and Methods: Nuclear Medicine department new process should analysis through many-sided, Firstly, make and trained risk management manual after then apply an actual work. Result analysis showed the number of risk accident occurrence that comparing the last year and after the improved activities. Secondly, producing risk management public relations film has been showed an applicable patient after then the customer service measurement checked for a hundred patient by questionnaire. Lastly, Risk factors were eliminated through the facilities participation improving activities which could change for the better risk factors. Results: The number of safety accident occurrence(medication error, fall and collision) were checked as zero after the improving activities both PET-CT and gamma camera examination. The results of questionnaire showed as follows; 74% marked as understanding of the test process and 81% checked "satisfaction" after the public relations film showing. The question "Did you consider about the risk factors?", both PET-CT and gamma camera checked as 94% and 89% respectively. Customer risk management could be accomplished effectively through the improving activities at the nuclear medicine department. Conclusions: The study would be an opportunity that spread risk factors were systematically showed and analyzied. • Pharmacopunture is a new combined method of acupunture and oriental drugs. Recently, this method is widely used to treat traffic accident patients in oriental medicine. However, there is no evidences of treatment, no information of effects and side-effects of this method, and no information of drugs used. In South Korea, western medicine and oriental medicine are regulated differently. When a new technology is invented in the area of western medicine, that method should pass several stages of clinical trials. After that processes, that method can be done as a medical practice. However, in the area of oriental medicine, there is no process like that. According to in South Korea, medical practice without license are composed of two behaviors. First type is that medical practice is done by a person who has no medical license. Second type is that medical practice is done by a person who has a medical license but the area of the license is different. Because of this reason, the distinction between the western medical practices and the oriental medical practices is very important. Medical practices are protected by license mainly because they can harm human life or body. When we invented new medical practice and try to practice it to the patients, we should consider the risk of that method whether it is western medical practice or oriental medical practice. It is not clear that the pharmcopunture which has been done is satisfied the standard of medical treatment.

  • There have been various discussions to prevent violence to 119 emergency medical technicians, and the aims of the were as follow ; first, the staff dispatched to the scene should be reinforced so that the patients committing violent acts can be subdued. Secondly, self-defense devices should be provided to 119 emergency medical technicians so that they can use them in a dangerous situation and escape from it. And finally, 119 emergency medical technicians should be allowed to refuse to transport the patients when they or their guardians do violence to them in order to prevent potential violent cases. When countermeasures after violence is committed, it is important to secure evidence and determine strongly to bring charges to the offenders rather than agree to overlook the violence in order to correct them right. It is necessary to introduce a support program to help the victim technicians concentrate on their physical and mental treatment. Violence to 119 EMT should be punished so that the society will think it is natural to punish such offenders. In a safer environment, 119 EMT can perform their duties and it is very important to draw this consensus.

  • There are large, medium, and small items in the evaluation test for medical interpreter professionals personnel and the criteria and level are not clear, which may cause confusion for those preparing for the test. Therefore, we would like to suggest that the qualification requirements for the medical translation ability test and the criteria for the evaluation items are consistent with the medical system in Korea. The survey on the medical interpreter competency test conducted was collected from domestic and foreign data, compared with similar test and overseas test. We also examined the perception of the test by experts with experience in developing and interpreting the medical interpretation test. As a result, in the 'International Culture' evaluation category, 'Language-oriented culture' was changed to 'Medical-oriented culture' and 'Interpretation ethics' was changed to 'Medical interpretation ethics'. In the evaluation items of the hospital system, the 'Medical Dispute Mediation Act', which is 「ACT ON MEDIATION OF MEDICAL DISPUTES」 of the middle item was changed the 「ACT ON REMEDIES FOR INJURIES FROM MEDICAL MALPRACTICE AND MEDIATION OF MEDICAL DISPUTES」 and the Act also reduced the four items related to the 'Medical Tourism Law' to two and added the 「ACT ON SUPPORTING THE ADVANCEMENT OF MEDICAL OVERSEAS AND ATTRACTING FOREIGN PATIENTS」. If the Medical Interpretation Proficiency Test is prepared in accordance with the medical culture of Korea, it is expected that there will be a stable opportunity for professionals who pass the examination to act as experts.
