  • Deformation is found by an external force in the rock which has internal stress. So, deformation is increased in time what is stressed under constant load. Rock materials collapse suddenly in a long period when the creep rate increases slightly. So mechanical deformability of the ground is an essential condition for determination of long term safety in structures. The result of analysis in 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% of constant load in creep test, strain velocity constants $\alpha$ and ${\gamma}$ increase with load increasement. Griggs equation is more exact than Li and Xia, Singh equation, and G$_2$of a flow constant by Burger's model decreases with stress increasement, but η$_1$$_2$and G$_1$ manifest irregularly in this study.

  • Effects of microstructure and indentation stress on fracture behavior of glass-infiltrated alumina composite for dental restorative application were investigated by the Hertzian and Vickers indentation method. Indentation stress-strain curve of glass-infiltrated alumina has showed the quasi-plastic behavior - deviation from linearity at high stress and the classical Hertzian cone crack, which could be confirmed the subsurface damage micrographs using bonded-interface specimen technique. The indentation stress-strain curves for the starting preforms are strongly dependent on porosity and microstructure of the preforms. On the other hand, the curves for the infiltrated composites are relatively insensitive to these factors. The failure of composite is originated at quasi-plastic deformation region. Damage and fracture behavior due to Hertzian stress field is theoretically examined, so that the indentation stress field plays a great role in material degradation. After Hertzian indentation annealing processing changes fracture behavior of alumina composite, so that stress field in material is healed through annealing.

  • The use of Polymer Concrete (PC) is growing very rapidly in many structural and construction applications such as box culverts, hazardous waste containers, trench lines, floor drains and the repair and overlay of damaged cement concrete surfaces in pavements, bridges, etc. However, PC has a defect economically because resin which be used for binder is expensive. Therefore the latest research is being progressed to replace existing resin with new resin which can reduce the high cost. Here, Polymer concrete using the recycled PET(polyethylene terephthalate) has some merits such as decrease of environmental destruction, decrease of environmental pollution and development of new construction materials. The variables of this study are amount of resin, curing condition and maximum size of coarse aggregate to find out mechanic properties of this. Stress-strain curve was obtained using MTS equipment by strain control. The results indicated that modulus of elasticity was increased gradually in an ascending branch of curve, as an increase of resin content. Compressive strength was the highest for resin content of $13\%$. And Compressive strength was increased as maximum size of coarse aggregate increases. The strain at maximum stress increases with an increase of resin content and size of coarse aggregate. For the descending branch of stress-strain curve the brittle fracture was decreased when it was cured at the room temperature compared to high temperature.

  • The conventional method for assessment of liquefaction potential proposed by Seed and Idriss has been widely used in most countries because of simplicity of tests. Even though various data such as stress, strain, stress path, and excess pore water pressure can be obtained from the dynamic test, especially, two simple experimental data such as the maximum deviatoric stress and the number of cycles at liquefaction have been used in the conventional assessment. In this study, a new detailed assessment for liquefaction potential to reflect both characteristics of real earthquake motion and dynamic soil resistance is proposed and verified. In the assessment, the safety factor of the liquefaction potential at a given depth of a site can be obtained by the ratio of a resistible cumulative plastic shear strain determined through the performance of the conventional cyclic test and a driving cumulative plastic shear strain calculated from the shear strain time history through the ground response analysis. The last point to cumulate the driving plastic shear strain to initiate soil liquefaction is important for this assessment. From the result of cyclic triaxial test using real earthquake motions, it was concluded that liquefaction under the impact-type earthquake loads would initiate as soon as a peak loading signal was reached. The driving cumulative plastic shear strain, therefore, can be determined by adding all plastic shear strains obtained from the ground response analysis up to the peak point. Through the verification of the proposed assessment, it can be concluded that the proposed assessment for liquefaction potential can be a progressive method to reflect both characteristics of the unique soil resistance and earthquake parameters such as peak earthquake signal, significant duration time, earthquake loading type, and magnitude.

  • In this study, we propose a new efficient 2-noded hybrid-mixed element for curved beam vibrationshaving a uniform and non-uniform cross section. The present element considering transverse shear strain is based on Hellinger-Reissner variational principle and introduces additional nodeless degrees for displacement field interpolation in order to enhance the numerical performance. The stress parameters are eliminated by the stationary condition and then the nodeless degrees are condensed out by the Guyan reduction. In the performance evaluation process of the present field-consistent higher-order element, we carefully examine the effects of field consistency and the role of higher-order interpolation functions on the hybrid-mixed formulation. Several benchmark tests confirm e superior behavior of the present hybrid-mixed element for curved beam vibrations.

  • In this work, some inaccuracies and limitation of prior indentation theory, which is based on the deformation theory of plasticity and experimental observations, are first investigated. Then effects of major material properties on the configuration of indentation load-deflection curve are examined via incremental plasticity theory based finite element analyses. It is confirmed that subindenter deformation and stress-strain distribution from the deformation theory of plasticity are quite dissimilar to those from incremental theory of plasticity. We finally suggest the optimal data acquisition location, where the strain gradient is the least and the effect of friction is negligible. This data acquisition point increases the strain range by a factor of five.

  • Structures are often subjected to various types of loading such as static, dynamic, or impact loading. Therefore, experimental and numerical methods have been employed to find adequate material properties according to the conditions. The Split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test has frequently been used to test engineering materials, particularly those used under high strain rates. In this study, the compressive deformation behaviors of aluminum alloy under impact conditions have been investigated by means of the SHPB test. The experimental results were then compared with those of finite element analyses. It was shown that reasonably good agreement with the true stress-strain curves was obtained at strain rates ranging from 1000 $s^{-1}$ to 2000 $s^{-1}$. When the strain rate increased by 30%, the peak stress in particular increased by 17%, and the strain also increased by 20%.

  • Calculating the distribution of stresses and displacements around a circular tunnel excavated in infinite isotropic rock mass subjected to hydrostatic stress condition is one of the basic problems in rock engineering. While closed-form solutions for the distribution are known if rock masses are considered as elastic, perfectly plastic, or brittle-plastic media, a few numerically approximated solutions based on various simplifying assumptions have been reported for strain-softening rock mass. In this study, a simple numerical method is introduced for the analysis of strain-softening behavior of the circular tunnel in Mohr-Coulomb rock mass. The method can also applied to the analysis of the tunnel in brittle-plastic or perfectly plastic media. For the brittle-plastic case where closed-formsolution exists, the performance of the present method is verified by showing an excellent agreement between two solutions. In order to demonstrate the strain-softening behaviors predicted by the proposed method. a parameter study for a softening index is given and the construction of ground reaction curves is carried out. The importance of defining the characteristics of dilation in plastic analysis is discussed through analyzing the displacements near the surface of tunnel.

  • Microstructural processes during high cycle fatigue are investigated according to plastic-strain hardening, crack formation, crack propagation and fracture. It is shown that the fatigue test resembles the uniaxial tensile test. The logarithm of the number of cycles to failure is proportional to the elongation in the tensile test. Under high cycle fatigue test, the strain is normally elastic. If the strain is absolutly elastic, fatigue could not result. But this is over simplication. Nearly all metals undergo a minor amount of plastic strain even at low stress. Damage accumulation leadling to crack formation can continue in the persistent slip bands at very low average plastic strain amplitude. In the tens sile test the overall specimen follows the failure procedure whilst in the high cycle fatigue test the local persistent slip band follows the failure procedure. However accumulations of strain per unit volume in the deforming region before failure in both cases are equal locally.

  • Based on the three reinforced concrete panel tests, a softened stress-strain curve of concrete subjected to reversed cyclic loading is proposed. The proposed model consists of seven stages in the compressive zones and six stages in the tensile zones. The proposed model is verified by comparing to the test results.
