Prosody Boundary Index Prediction Model for Continuous Speech Recognition and Speech Synthesis (연속음성 인식 및 합성을 위한 운율 경계강도 예측 모델)

  • 본 연구에서는 연속음 인식과 합성을 위한 경계강도 예측 모델을 제안한다. 운율 경계 강도는 음성 합성에서는 운율구 사이의 휴지기의 길이 조절로 합성음의 자연도에 기여를 하고 연속음 인식에서는 인식과정에서 나타나는 후보문장의 선별 과정에 특징변수가 되어 인식률 향상에 큰 역할을 한다. 음성학적으로 발화된 문장은 큰 경계 단위로 볼 때 운율구 형태로 이루어졌다고 볼 수 있으며 구의 경계는 문장의 문법적인 특징과 관련을 지을 수 있게 된다. 본 논문에서는 운율 경계 강도 수준을 4로 하고 문법적인 특징으로는 트리구조 방법으로 결정된 오른쪽 가지의 수식의 깊이(rd)와 link grammar방법으로 결정된 음절수(syl), 연결거리(torig)를 bigram 모형과 결합하여 운율적 경계 강도를 예측한다. 예측 모형으로는 다중 회귀 모형과 Marcov 모형을 제안한다. 이들 모형으로 낭독체 200 문장에 대해 실험한 결과 76%로 경계 강도를 예측할 수 있었다.

  • 환경적 요인으로 인하여 측정간격이 지속시간이 변할 수 있는 지의 l여부를 알아보기 위해 실험을 행하였다. 실험에서의 측정간격은 어절단위이며 이러한 실험을 통해서 소위 구-길이 효과의 한 츠면도 파악해 볼 수 있다. 측정간격 양쪽의 어절에서 체계적인 음절증가를 유도한 뒤 나타날 수 있는 측정간격의 지속시간에서의 변화율을 측정하였다. 결과는 엄격한 의미에서 체계적으로 기술될 수 있을 만한 단음화효과는 나타나지 않았다. 어느 정도의 융통성을 둔다면 순행단음화 효과의 부분적인 출현은 인정할 만하다. 문장의 중간에 위치한 어절과 양쪽 환경 각각을 짝을 지워 상관관계를 따져본 결과 양의 상관이 더 많이 나타났다. 결과적으로 실험에서의 측정간격은 지속시간에 관한 한 문장 내에서 독립적인 활동을 하는 단위로 생각할 수 있다.

On vowel and syllable duration related to prosodic structure in Korean (한국어 운율구조와 관련한 모음 및 음절 길이)

  • This study aims at examining the relationship between tonal events and their related vowel and syllable duration in Korean. Two things were investigated: one is to see if there is a hierarchical relationship in prosodic unit-final-lengthening and the other is to see if accentual phrase initial high tone syllable gets lengthened. Generally, higher prosodic units show larger degree of lengthening of the final vowel and also final syllable duration than the lower ones except for accentual phrase: Mean duration of utterance-final or intonational-phrase-final syllable(and its vowels) was longer than that of accentual-phrase-final or word-final syllable(and its vowels). However, mean duration of accentual phrase final syllable was shorter than that of word final syllable. Mean vowel duration of accentual phrase initial high tone syllable was shorter than that of any other prosodic unit. Its mean syllable duration, however, was longer than that of accentual-phrase-final or word-final syllable, indicating that strong consonants(fortis and aspirated) frequently appear in the accentual phrase initial position and this position is a prosodically strong position showing longer duration as well as high tone.

Comparison of Word Level Stress Features between Korean, English and the Interlanguage of Korean Learners of English (영어 학습자의 중간 언어 단어 수준 강세 비교)

  • English stress plays such a critical role in understanding spoken English words that its misplacement can lead to a breakdown of communication. Korean learners of English, whose native language is known to lack this feature, are expected to have some difficulty acquiring this English prosodic system. This study explored how Korean is different from English in manifesting prominence at the word level and how the interlanguage of Korean learners of English is dissimilar to both languages in that regard. Four polysyllabic English loanwords in Korean and their English source words were used as stimuli. Ten native English speakers read the English source words while ten Korean learners of English read the English loan words first and then the English source words. The analysis of 120 speech samples revealed that Korean words did not have any salient syllable realized by all stress features: duration, amplitude, and F0. On the contrary, English words had syllables with relative prominence, which was consistently manifested by all the features. Interestingly, in realizing English stress, the interlanguage of the Korean English learners bore more resemblance to that of English than that of their native language.

The exploration of the effects of word frequency and word length on Korean word recognition (한국어 단어재인에 있어서 빈도와 길이 효과 탐색)

  • Because a word is the basic unit of language processing, studies of the word recognition processing and the variables that contribute to word recognition processing are very important. Word frequency and word length are recognized as important factors on word recognition. This study examined the effects of those two variables on the Korean word recognition processing. In Experiment 1, two types of Hangul words, pure Hangul words and Hangul words with Hanja counterparts, were used to explore the frequency effects. A frequency effect was not observed for Hangul words with Hanja counterparts. In Experiment 2, the word length was manipulated to determine if the word length effect appears in Hangul words. Contrary to the expectation, one syllable words were processed more slowly than two syllable words. The possible explanations for these results and future research directions are discussed.

Automatic Word Spacing of the Korean Sentences by Using End-to-End Deep Neural Network (종단 간 심층 신경망을 이용한 한국어 문장 자동 띄어쓰기)

  • Previous researches on automatic spacing of Korean sentences has been researched to correct spacing errors by using n-gram based statistical techniques or morpheme analyzer to insert blanks in the word boundary. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end automatic word spacing by using deep neural network. Automatic word spacing problem could be defined as a tag classification problem in unit of syllable other than word. For contextual representation between syllables, Bi-LSTM encodes the dependency relationship between syllables into a fixed-length vector of continuous vector space using forward and backward LSTM cell. In order to conduct automatic word spacing of Korean sentences, after a fixed-length contextual vector by Bi-LSTM is classified into auto-spacing tag(B or I), the blank is inserted in the front of B tag. For tag classification method, we compose three types of classification neural networks. One is feedforward neural network, another is neural network language model and the other is linear-chain CRF. To compare our models, we measure the performance of automatic word spacing depending on the three of classification networks. linear-chain CRF of them used as classification neural network shows better performance than other models. We used KCC150 corpus as a training and testing data.

Acoustic Characteristics of Korean Compounds and Phrases (한국어 복합어와 구의 음향 음성학적 특성)

  • Recent studies on acoustic correlates of stress in English compounds and English phrases have revealed the difference of changes in acoustic manifestation between English compounds and English phrases with different intonation patterns. However, little effort has been made to compare Korean compounds and Korean phrases in different intonational environments. Therefore, this study focuses on the analysis of acoustic characteristics of Korean compounds and Korean phrases produced in different intonational sentence patterns (Subject, Question, Clause-Final, and Statement-Final). Measurements of vowel duration, intensity (dB) and pitch (in semitones) were compared. The results of the experiment in which 30 native speakers of Korean pronounced Korean compounds and Korean phrases (obtained from $8{\times}30$ sentences) in controlled prosodic and intonational environments reveal clear patterns that distinguish Korean compounds from Korean phrases and support the evidence of acoustic salience for phrases. Duration differences turned out to be a significant cue to distinguish Korean compounds and Korean phrases in all but the Clause Final position. According to the size effect, duration ratio is the most reliable cue to distinguish Korean compounds and Korean phrases followed by the pitch differences between the first syllable and the second syllable and the intensity ratio. Implications for Korean and English intonation training were also discussed.

An Analysis of $H^*$ Production by Korean Learners of English according to the Focus of English Sentences in Comparison with Native Speakers of English and Its Pedagogical Implications (영어 원어민과 비교한 한국인 학습자의 영어 문장 초점에 따른 영어 고성조 구현의 분석과 억양교육에 대한 시사점)

  • Focused items in English sentences are usually accompanied by changes in acoustic manifestation. This paper investigates the acoustic characteristics of $H^*$ in English utterances produced by natives speakers of English and Korean learners of English. To obtain more reliable results, the changes of the acoustic feature values (F0, intensity, syllable duration) were normalized by a median value and a whole duration of each utterance. Acoustic values of sentences with no focused words were compared with those of sentences with focused words within each group (Americans vs. Koreans). Sentences with focused words were compared between the two groups, too. In the instances in which a significant Group x Focus Location (initial, middle and final of a sentence) interaction was obtained, further analysis testing the effect of Group on each Focus Location was conducted. The analysis revealed that Korean learners of English produced focused words with lower F0, lower intensity and shorter syllable duration than native speakers of English. However, the effect of intensity change caused by focus was not significant within each group. Further analysis examining the interaction of Group and Focus Location showed that the change in F0 produced by Korean group was significantly lower in the middle and the final positions of sentences than by American group. Implications for the intonation training were also discussed.

  • 의존 구문 분석은 자연어 문장에 포함된 단어들 간의 의존 관계를 분석하는 과제로 다양한 자연어 이해 과제에 요구되는 핵심 기술 중 하나이다. 본 연구에서는 단어와 문자 자질을 적용한 기존 Stack-Pointer Network의 인코더의 입력 단어 표상을 확장하여, 한국어를 비롯한 형태적으로 복잡한 언어(morphologically rich language)에 적합하도록 음절-태그 단위, 형태소 단위, 형태소 품사 정보 자질을 보강한 의존 구문 분석 모델을 제안한다. 실험 결과 제안하는 모델은 의존 구조로 변환된 세종 구문 분석 말뭉치에서 UAS 90.58%, LAS 88.35%의 성능을, 2018 국어 정보 처리 시스템 경진 대회 평가 데이터에서 UAS 84.69%, LAS 82.02%의 성능을 보였다. 더불어 제안하는 모델은 포함된 문장의 전체 길이가 긴 의존 관계, 의존소와 지배소의 거리가 먼 의존 관계, 의존소를 구성하는 형태소의 개수가 많은 의존 관계에서 기존 Stack-Pointer Network보다 향상된 성능을 보였다.

The Effects of the Speaking Rate on the Duration of Syllable before Boundary (발화속도가 경계앞 음절 길이에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the speaking rate on the duration of syllable before boundary. The materials used were four types of syllable-boundary sequences(Go-'Ga' Boundary-Gu) in a paragraph. The duration of 'Ga' syllables before 4 level of boundary was measured, and all of the measurements were taken from signals and spectrograms made by the $Signalyze^{TM}$ 3.04 for Power Mac 7200. Subjects were six female speakers who read the materials at fast, normal, and slow speed five times. The results show that (1) the slower the speaking rate becomes, the longer the duration of syllable before boundary, (2) the duration rank of syllable before each boundary does not correspond to the level of boundary, eg. at fast speed, = < #, + < $ ; at normal speed, +, #, = < $ ; at slow speed, + < =, #, $, and (3) the syllable before sentence boundary is less influenced than syllable before another boundary.
