  • In the 1970s, South Korea under Park Chung-hee's regime emphasized economic development along with anti-communism and nationalism. At the same time, North Korea, under Kim Il-sung, reinforced its ideology centered on Juche (self-reliance) and anti-foreign sentiment. This study aims to identify the characteristics of how state ideologies were visually represented and functioned through animation during this period. The research follows a three-part approach: First, it examines the socio-cultural context of South and North Korean animation. Second, it explores John B. Thompson's five modes of ideological operation-legitimation, dissimulation, unification, fragmentation, and reification. Third, it conducts a comparative analysis of South Korea's General Ttoli - The Third Tunnel (1978) and North Korea's Squirrel and Hedgehog (16 episodes), both produced in the 1970s. The analysis reveals that while there are similarities in the five modes of ideological operation-legitimation, dissimulation, unification, fragmentation, and reification-distinct characteristics emerge in each animation. General Ttoli portrays South Korea as a defender of democracy and freedom, demonizes the enemy, features a superhero grounded in entertainment, highlights the inequalities and human rights abuses in North Korean society. On the other hand, Squirrel and Hedgehog presents an advanced form of socialism, denigrates its enemies, emphasizes collectivism, features a growth-oriented hero character supported by allies, depicts an ideal society of equality, and prioritizes educational purposes.

  • With the rapid increase of multicultural families in South Korea due to international marriages and the influx of foreign workers, the number of children from these families enlisting in the military is also rising. It is projected that by 2030, over 10,000 recruits from multicultural backgrounds will join the military annually. This influx can help mitigate the issue of decreasing military resources due to low birth rates and enhance the cultural diversity within the military. However, the lack of multicultural awareness and the presence of discrimination in the military can hinder the well-being of these multicultural soldiers. This study aims to analyze the multicultural phenomenon in the Korean military and explore development strategies to ensure the stable service and healthy military culture for multicultural soldiers. The theoretical background of multiculturalism and diversity in the military is examined, along with the analysis of multicultural military operations in other countries. Management strategies for multicultural soldiers, including leadership and organizational culture innovation, multicultural education and awareness programs, and the establishment of tailored support systems, are proposed. Furthermore, policy recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of multicultural policies in the Korean military are presented. Supporting the successful military service of multicultural soldiers will contribute to the enhancement of military combat power and the acceptance of multiculturalism in Korean society.

  • This study purports to identify the factors that contribute to the classification of age groups or generations of Koreans. Independent variables such as respondents' attitudes toward welfare, attitudes toward equity, education level, perception of inequality in Korean society, tax awareness, and health status are included in the model that were put into the analysis with the main interest. Since this study does not construct any hypothesis prior to analysis, the nature of this study can be said exploratory. The data utilized for the analysis are from the 17th year of the Korean Welfare Panel collected in 2022, and a linear discrimination analysis technique will be used. First and foremost, a theoretical review of the generational classification will be conducted through domestic and international literature in the past. To date, there is no quantitative studies in Korea that have a significant influence on the generational classification. Therefore, in this study, a theoretical review of political tendencies and values, which are estimated to have a significant influence on the generational classification, that is, the difference between generations, will be significant. The perception and attitude toward welfare will be discussed in the review of values. Next, analysis models, analysis techniques, and variables to be used in the analysis will be introduced. After

  • Recently, with immersive virtual reality(IVR) technologies, various services such as education, training, entertainment, industry, healthcare and remote collaboration have been applied. In particular, researches are actively being studied to visualize and interact with virtual humans, research on virtual pets in IVR is also emerging. For interaction with the virtual pet, similar to real-world interaction scenarios, the most important thing is to provide physical contact such as haptic and non-verbal interaction(e.g., gesture). This paper investigates the effects on factors (e.g., shape and texture) of passive haptic feedbacks using mapping physical props corresponding to the virtual pet. Experimental results show significant differences in terms of immersion, co-presence, realism, and friendliness depending on the levels of texture elements when interacting with virtual pets by passive haptic feedback. Additionally, as the main findings of this study by statistical interaction between two variables, we found that there was Uncanny valley effect in terms of friendliness. With our results, we will expect to be able to provide guidelines for creating interactive contents with the virtual pet in immersive VR environments.

  • Research combining deep learning-based models and physical simulations is making important advances in the medical field. This extracts the necessary information from medical image data and enables fast and accurate prediction of deformation of the skeleton and soft tissue based on physical laws. This study proposes a system that integrates Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF), Position-Based Dynamics (PBD), and Parallel Resampling to generate 3D volume data, and deform and visualize them in real-time. NeRF uses 2D images and camera coordinates to produce high-resolution 3D volume data, while PBD enables real-time deformation and interaction through physics-based simulation. Parallel Resampling improves rendering efficiency by dividing the volume into tetrahedral meshes and utilizing GPU parallel processing. This system renders the deformed volume data using ray casting, leveraging GPU parallel processing for fast real-time visualization. Experimental results show that this system can generate and deform 3D data without expensive equipment, demonstrating potential applications in engineering, education, and medicine.
