In this study, analyzed the effective width of concrete unfilled composite steel grid deck which has different shear connector details from that of composite bridge. The effective width of concrete unfilled composite steel grid deck according to effective width calculation method, load size and main bearing bar spacing-span ratio was evaluated. As a result of analysis, it is analyzed that the effective width is calculated to be nearly equal to the actual effective width by idealizing the stress shape as a trapezoidal shape. In addition, shear hole penetration reinforcing bars applied to increase the shear strength is shown to increase the effective width. From the results of the analysis of the effective width according to main bearing bar spacing-span ratio, proposes the correction factor that can calculate the effective width ratio of the unfilled steel composite steel grid deck.
The purpose of this study is to suggest a method to quantitatively predict long-term deformation of walls under an axial load concentrated to a part of the whole width. Four wall specimens were tested and three-dimensional finite element analyses were performed for these specimens. The finite element models established in this study were verified from the test results. On the basis of this verification, analysis parameters were selected considering various dimensions of walls and sectional area that a concentrated load is acting on, and finite element analyses for these parameters were carried out. The concept of the effective width coefficient was newly introduced as a method to predict the long-term behavior of walls, and a function that is able to optimally fit the effective width coefficients calculated from the analysis results for the selected parameters was found from regression analysis. The found function can be conveniently used in practice to predict the long-term behavior under loads concentrated to a local area of the whole width of walls.
Hydraulic fracturing technology has been widely applied in the industry for the recovery of the natural resources such as gas, oil and geothermal heat from hot dry rock. During hydraulic fracturing stimulation, multiple cracks are created resulting in mechanical interaction between cracks. Such an interaction influences obtaining hydraulic fracturing key parameters (crack opening, length, and borehole net pressure). The boundary collocation method (BCM) has been proved to be very effective in considering mechanical interaction. However, for better confidence, it needs to be verified by comparison with analytical solutions such as stress intensity factors. In this paper, three cases, single fracture in remote uniaxial tension, single fracture in remote shear stress field and two arbitrary segments in an infinite plane loaded at infinity are considered. As a result, the BCM is proved to be valid technique to consider mechanical interaction between cracks and can be used to estimate the hydraulic fracturing parameters such as opening of the fracture, and so on.

This paper is about proposal of a calculation method and development of an analytical program for predicting crack width and deflection in structural concrete members. The proposed method numerically calculate stresses in steel rebar using a parabola-rectangle stress-strain curve and a modified tension stiffening factor considering the effect of the cover thickness. Based on the study results, a calculation method to predict crack width and deflection in reinforced concrete flexural members is proposed utilizing effective tension area and idealized tension chord as well as effective moment-curvature relationship considering tension stiffening effect. The calculation method was applied to the test specimens available in literatures. The study results showed that the crack width and deflections predicted by the proposed method were closed to the experimentally measured data compared the current design code provisions.

Gabor cosine and sine functions have widely been used to describe the human visual filters. This paper presents a new method to locally represent image frequency components using these functions. The parameters of basis functions are determined based on dc ripple and the sidelobe strength of step response. The resultant transform consisting of Gabor cosine and sine functions is compared with existing transforms by computing the joint effective width and by applying to the image reconstruction with the limited number of transformed coefficients. The experimental results show that the proposed transform has better performance than DGT and DCT.

Effective beam width model (EBWM) has been used for analysis of post-tensioned (PT) flat plate slab frames under lateral loads. For analyzing PT flat plate slab structure under lateral loads with good precision, reduction in slab stiffness has to be accurately estimated for Effective beam width model(EBWM). For this purpose, this study collected test results of PT flat plate system conducted by former researches. And this study reduced the width of slab so that the stiffness of the EBWM converged into the lateral stiffness of each test specimens by trial and error. By conducting nonlinear regression analysis, an equation for calculating stiffness reduction factor for the PT flat plate is proposed.
Twelve reinforced concrete continuous deep beams having web openings within interior shear spans were tested to failure. All beams tested had the same geometrical dimensions. The main variables investigated were the opening size and amount of inclined reinforcement around openings. An effective inclined reinforcement factor combining the influence of the opening size and amount of inclined reinforcement on the structural behavior of the beams tested is proposed. It was observed that the load distribution, diagonal crack width, and load capacity of beams tested were greatly dependent on the effective inclined reinforcement factor which ranged from 0 to 0.171 for the test specimens. The higher this factor, the smaller the diagonal crack width and its development rate. A higher load capacity also developed in beams having effective inclined reinforcement factor above 0.077 than in the corresponding solid deep beams. A numerical technique based on the upper bound analysis of the plasticity theory is proposed to evaluate the load capacity of continuous deep beams having openings within interior shear spans. Predictions obtained from the proposed formulas are in good agreement with test results.

For circular rigid footings with a rough base on sand, combined vertical - moment loading capacity was studied by three-dimensional numerical modelling. Mohr-Coulomb plasticity model with the associated flow-rule was used for the soil. After comparing the results of the swipe loading method, which can construct the interaction diagram with smaller number of analyses, and those of the probe loading method, which can simulate the load-paths in the conventional load tests, it was found that both loading methods give similar results. Conventional methods based on the effective width or area concept and the results by eccentricity factor ($e_{\gamma}$) were reviewed. The results by numerical modelling of this study were compared with those of previous studies. The combined loading capacity for vertical (V) - moment (M) loading was barely affected by the internal friction angle. It was found that the effective width concept expressed in the form of eccentricity factor can be applied to circular footings. The numerical results of this study were smaller than the previous experimental results and the differences between them increased with the eccentricity and moment load. Discussions are made on the reason of the disparities between the numerical and experimental results, and the areas for further researches are mentioned.

The member deflection is one of the most important considerations for the serviceability evaluation of reinforced concrete (RC) structures, and the concept of the effective moment of inertia has been generally used for its estimation. However, the actual service load applied on an existing RC beam may not be easily obtained, for which the estimation of beam deflection by existing methods can be difficult to obtain. Therefore, based on the correlation between cracks and deflection in a RC beam, this study proposed a method to estimate the deflection of RC beams directly from the condition of cracks not using the actual loads acting on the member as its input data. The proposed method extensively utilized the relationships among sums of crack widths, average strains, and curvatures, and modification factors obtained from regression analysis were also introduced to improve its accuracy. The deflections of members were successfully estimated by the proposed method independent from applied loads, which was also easy to apply compared to the existing methods based on the effective moment of inertia.
