A study on treatment of emulsified oil waste water in vessels by electrochemical treatment system (전기화학적 처리장치에 의한 유화된 선저폐수의 처리에 관한 연구)

  • Discharging untreated bilge to the ocean is a cause of marine pollution. In general, bilge water contains free and/or emulsified forms of oil. Free form of oil can easily be separated by gravimetric flotation and/or proper filtration processes. However, those simple physicochemical processes could not separate emulsified oil without adding proper chemicals. Electrolytic flotation is one of promising technologies able to fulfill the effluent standard requirement, which is below 15 ppm of oil content. In this research, Electrochemical process consisting of electrochemical flotation basin was studied for the treatment of emulsified oil. In order to estimate, the effectiveness of oil separation equipment influent concentration of oil and HRT(Hydraulic retention time) were considered. Also, lab-scale electrochemical process was designed and operated in the condition of various HRT, current density, and electrode gap. Through the research, following results were obtained. From the experiment of bench scale electrochemical treatment process, it was demonstrated that the emulsified oil was treated effectively and the removal efficiency of emulsified oil from wastewater was increased with HRT and current density.

Emulsification of Bunker-C Oil by a Marine Bacterium Achromobacter sp. M-1220 (해양세균 Achromobacter sp. M-1220균주에 의한 Bunker-C 유의 유화)

  • A marine bacterium Achromobacter sp. M-1220 was isolated from enrichment culture for emulsification of Bunker-C oil. The bacterium can emulsify approximately 7.5g of Bunker-C oil per liter in sen water medium within 1 drys at 18$^{\circ}C$ and multiply from 8$\times$10$^5$ cells to 9$\times$10$^9$ cells per mi. Optimum pH and salt concentration were pH 7.5 and 3% for the emulsification of Bunker-C oil. Emulsification takes place actively in both high sulfur-containing Bunker-C oil and high sulfur-con-taming crude oil. The amount of emulsification depends on the exogenous addition of nitrogen and phosphate sources. The bacterium can also utilize n-hexndecane, n-paraffin me benzene among the petroleum compounds as a sole carbon source.

Effects of Water Repellency Treated ALC Powder on the Properties of Mortar Mixed with ERCO (발수 처리한 ALC 분말이 유화처리 정제유지류(ERCO) 혼입 모르타르의 품질특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was done to resolve the air reduction in mortar when mixed with ERCO. Effects of the water repellent ALC powder due to its particle size and substitution ratio on the cement mortar with ERCO was analyzed. Results showed more water repellent ALC powder ensured more air but did not affect the size of particles. It was determined the compression was caused by more air and water added to achieve the flow. Therefore, substituting with water repellent ALC powder may compensate for the air reduction in mortar with ERCO. Other measures and approaches are needed in order to resolve the reduced strength.

  • 난황을 이용한 유화식품인 마요네즈 제조시 천연고분자 물질인 chitosan의 사용가능성을 조사하기 위하여 난황의 유화력과 유화 안전성에 미치는 chitosan의 효과와 마요네즈 제조시 chitosan 첨가특성을 조사하였다. Chitosan을 난황 무게에 대해 0.1% 첨가한 결과난항의 유화력은 약 10%증진되었으며 유화 안정성은 뚜렷이 증진되었다. 마요네즈 제시 0.1% chitosan 첨가에 의해 마요네즈의 유화 안정성을 증가되었으며 대조구의 첨가 대두유에 비해 40% 증량 처리구에 있어 유화 안정성 및 점도는 대조구에 비해 우수하였으며 색택은 비슷한 경향을 나타내었다. 마요네즈의 퍼짐서, 점성, 맛, 종합적 기호도에 관한 기호성은 0.1% chitosan 첨가구가 대조구에 비해 양호하였으며, 40% 증량한 경우 더욱 우수하였으며 60% 증량한 겨웅 대조구와 유사하였다.

Adhesion control of Campylobacter jejuni in chicken skin using emulsifiers (유화제를 이용한 계육 표면에서 Campylobacter jejuni의 부착 제어)

  • To prevent contamination by Campylobacter jejuni during chicken carcass processing, the effect of emulsifiers on C. jejuni inoculated on chicken skin was investigated using confocal laser scanning microscopy. Among the 8 emulsifiers (SWA-10D, L-7D, M-7D, S-1670, L-1695, P-1670, polysorbate 20, polysorbate 80) tested for antimicrobial activity by the paper disk method, 4 emulsifiers (L-7D, L-1695, polysorbate 20, polysorbate 80) were screened further. Emulsifier L-1695 showed the largest clear zone at a concentration of 200 mg/mL. The 4 emulsifiers subjected to primary screening were screened for heat and pH stability. In the contact surface test, emulsifier L-1695 showed the lowest log CFU/㎠ value on both stainless steel and ceramic surfaces. When emulsifier L-1695 was applied via general and electrostatic spray methods, the number of C. jejuni entrapped inside chicken skin follicles was significantly reduced in both methods. In conclusion, the emulsifier L-1695 could be employed as a microbial detachment agent in the chicken carcass processing industry.

  • This paper concerns estimating a desired signal in a multipath environment using linearly constrained array processor with master-slave type array processing and spatial smoothing method in GSM system. In computer simulation, it is shown that the spatial smoothing approach performs better than the master-slave type array processing while both methods perform better than linearly constrained array processing with respect to SINR and BER performances.

Effects of Dietary Exogenous Hydrophilic Emulsifier Supplementation on Growth Performance and Carcass Traits in Broilers

  • The effects of dietary exogenous hydrophilic emulsifiers on the growth, nutrient digestibility, and carcass characteristics of broilers were evaluated. A total of 200 one-day-old broilers (Ross 308) were allotted to one of four treatment groups in a randomized complete block design in five replicates with 10 birds per pen during a 5-week growth experimental period. Birds were fed a corn-soybean meal-based diet with or without the addition of 0.025, 0.050, or 0.075% exogenous hydrophilic emulsifiers. The diets contained 3,025 and 3,075 metabolizable energy/kg for Phases 1 and 2, respectively. For each phase and the overall experimental period, body weight gain (linear, P<0.05) and feed conversion ratio (linear, P<0.05) improved in proportion to the dietary exogenous hydrophilic emulsifier level, while the average daily feed intake was not affected by dietary treatment. Improvement in growth performance by dietary treatments was observed during the last two weeks rather than the first three weeks of the growth phase. In carcass traits, abdominal fat content increased as dietary exogenous hydrophilic emulsifier level increased (linear, P<0.05), whereas dietary emulsifier level did not affect the relative weight of the liver, breast, and leg muscles. In conclusion, addition of dietary exogenous hydrophilic emulsifiers from 0 to 0.075% in broiler diets improved the growth rate and feed efficiency of broilers without any deleterious effects on nutrient digestibility, although a corn-soybean meal-based diet had less energy content (3,025 and 3,075 metabolizable energy/kg) for 0-3 weeks and 3-5 weeks, respectively.

Strength Property and Mock-up Test of the High Performance Concrete with Emulsified Refined Cooking Oil (유화처리 정제식용유(ERCO) 사용에 따른 고성능 콘크리트의 Mock-up 및 강도특성)

  • In this study, fundamental performances of high strength concrete with ERCO has been analysed according to mock-up test. The following results could be made as the conclusion. For the fresh concrete, flowability and air content decreased with the addition of ERCO, and all the specimens satisfied the target range. For the strength properties, all the specimens with different nominal strength showed higher compressive srength than Plain which with 0% dosage of ERCO.

  • In this study, mock-up test for high strength concrete with ERCO has been carried to analyse the effect of autogenous shrinkage reducing of using ERCO. The following results could be made as the conclusion. Results of EIS were lower than 2.5 and showed good resistance for separation of materials. For the setting time, specimen with ERCO showed delay of setting comparing with Plain. For the autogenous shrinkage, as the generation of saponification, capillary pores inside the concrete were filled by soap and the autogenous shrinkage has been obviously decreased. It could be identified that using ERCO in high strength showed good effect on reducing autogenous shrinkage in high strength concrete.

  • Although the carbonation problem of high-volume slag concrete has been solved by the mixed use of emulsified refine cooling oil as the pilot study, there was an instance of securing air quantity and frost resistance followed by the use of Expancel due to the problem of having vulnerability in frost resistance in result as the air quantity has not been secured. But due to the problem of Expancel not being economical, air quantity and frost resistance of high-volume slag concrete mixed with ERCO are attempted to be secured using micro bubble that can remain in the water for a long time as a relatively economical and very microscopic bubble.
