A mathematical model comprised with eight simultaneous quasi-linear partial differential equations was suggested to provide optimal chlorination strategy. Upstream weighted finite element method was employed to construct multidimensional numerical code. The code was verified against measured concentrations in three type of reactors. Boundary conditions and reaction rate were calibrated for the sixteen cases of experimental results to regenerate the measured values. Eight reaction rate coefficients were estimated from the modeling result. The reaction rate coefficients were expressed in terms of pH and temperature. Automatic optimal algorithm was invented to estimate the reaction rate coefficients by minimizing the sum of squares of the numerical errors and combined with the model. In order to minimize the concentration of chlorine and pollutants at the final usage sites, a real-time predictive control system is imperative which can predict the water quality variables from the chlorine disinfection process at the water purification plant to the customer by means of a model and operate the disinfection process according to the influent water quality. This model can be used to build such a system in water treatment plants.
Sandwich injection molding is one of the remarkable polymer processes recently developed from conventional injection molding. But it is almost impossible to do theoretical investigation that we've researched it through numerical simulation. In this paper, numerical simulation on the study of sandwich injection molding is based on Finite Element Method and FAN/Control Volume method. In addition to conventional filling parameter that can confirm skin polymer melt front, new filling parameters have been introduced to confirm core polymer melt front advancement. These filling parameters are defined in each layer which is divided to solve temperature field along the thickness direction. One can notice different filling patterns resulted from the variation of material properties such as viscosities and power-law indexes, and processing conditions such as switch-over times and wall temperatures. It gives us a better understanding of the sandwich injection molding process. And we can recognize that it's the core polymer spatial distribution after the completion of filling that is the most important key point to use this process for industrial molding process.

Abstract Gallium arsenide crystal is usually grown from the melt by the horizontal Bridgman method. We constructed pseudo - steady - state model for crystal growth of GaAs which inclue melt, crystal and the free interface. Mathematical equations of the model were solved for flow, temperature, and concentration field in the melt and temperature field in the crystal. The location and shape of the interface were also solved simultaneously. In 2 - dimensional model, the shape of the interface is flat with adiabatic thermal boundary condition, but it becomes curved with completely conducting thermal boundary condition. In 3 - dimensional model, the interface is less curved than 2 - dimensional case and the flow intensity is similar to that of 2 - dimensional case. With the increase of flow intensity vertical segregation shows maximum value in both 2 - and 3 - D model. However, the maximum value occurs in lower flow intensity in 2 - D model because the interface is more curved for the same flow intensity.

Design of general steel structure had applied to achieve elastic designing concept so far. Because elastic design supposes that whole structure complies with elasticity formula so that achieve via allowable stress of material. It is concept that calculate stress distribution of construction about action external load and estimate load when the maximum stress reaches equally with allowable stress that is established by maximum safety load of the structure. But, absence that compose actuality structure by deal with external load increase small success surrender and structure hardness falls and structure in limited state finally on the whole as showing complicated process by interference between collapse and buckling under compression. Applied ANSYS (elasto-plasticity large deformation finite element method) to be mediocrity finite element program for analysis method and analysis control used in Newton-Raphson method & Arc-length method.

The so-called Pier-Shafts system which consists of the continuous column and shaft is often used to support the highway bridge structure because of advantages in easy construction and low cost. In the earthquake region, the Pier-Shafts system undergoes large displacements and represents a nonlinear behavior under the lateral seismic loading. The soil-pile interaction should be considered for more accurate analysis of the Pier-Shafts system. In this study, a transverse response of a reinforced concrete Pier-Shafts system inside multi-layered soil medium is predicted using a finite element program which adopts an elasto-plastic interface model for the interface behavior between the shaft and the soil. Then, seismic analysis is performed to evaluate the performance of Pier-Shafts system under strong ground motion and their results are verified with experimental data.
Purpose: This 3D-FEA study was performed to investigate the influence of marginal bone loss pattern around the implant to the stress distribution. Material and methods: From the right second premolar to the right second molar of the mandible was modeled according to the CT data of a dentate patient. Teeth were removed and an implant ($\Phi\;4.0{\times}10.0mm$) was placed in the first molar area. Twelve bone models were created; Studied bone loss conditions were horizontal bone loss and vertical bone loss, assumed bone loss patterns during biologic width formation, and pathologic vertical bone loss with or without cortification. Axial, buccolingual, and oblique force was applied independently to the center of the implant crown. The Maximum von Mises stress value and stress contour was observed and von Mises stresses at the measuring points were recorded. Results: The stress distribution patterns were similar in the non-resorption and horizontal resorption models, but differed from those in the vertical resorption models. Models assuming biologic width formation showed altered stress distribution, and weak bone to implant at the implant neck area seams accelerates stress generation. In case of vertical bone resorption, contact of cortical bone to the implant may positively affect the stress distribution.

The increasing use of curved beams in buildings, vehicles, ships, and aircraft has prompted studies directed toward the development of an accurate method for analyzing the dynamic behavior of such structures. The stability behavior of elastic curved beams has been the subject of a large number of investigations. Solutions of the relevant differential equations have been obtained traditionally using standard finite difference or finite element methods. These techniques require a great deal of computer time as the number of discrete nodes becomes relatively large under the conditions of complex geometry and loading. One of the efficient procedures for the solution of partial differential equations is the method of differential quadrature. The differential quadrature method (DQM) has been applied to a large number of cases to overcome the difficulties of the complex algorithms of programming for the computer, as well as the excessive use of storage due to the conditions of complex geometry and loading. The in-plane buckling of curved beams considering the extensibility of the arch axis was analyzed under uniformly distributed radial loads using the DQM. The critical loads were calculated for the member with various parameter ratios, boundary conditions, and opening angles. The results were compared with the precise results by other methods for cases, in which they were available. The DQM, using only a limited number of grid points, provided results that agreed very well (less than 0.3%) with the exact ones. New results according to diverse variations were obtained, showing the important roles in the buckling behavior of curved beams, and can be used in comparisons with other numerical solutions or with experimental test data.

Out-of-plane buckling of curved beams with rotatory inertia were analyzed using DQM under uniformly distributed radial loads. Critical loads were calculated for the member with various parameter ratios, boundary conditions, and opening angles. The results were compared with exact results from other methods for available cases. The DQM used only a limited number of grid points and shows very good agreement with the exact results (less than 0.3% error). An analysis method is proposed for the transient linear or nonlinear analysis of dynamic interactions between a flexible dam body and reservoir impounding compressible water under earthquake loadings. The coupled dam-reservoir system consists of three substructures: (1) a dam body with linear or nonlinear behavior; (2) a semi-infinite fluid region with constant depth; and (3) an irregular fluid region between the dam body and far field. The dam body is modeled with linear and/or nonlinear finite elements. The far field is formulated as a displacement-based transmitting boundary in the frequency domain that can radiate energy into infinity. Then the transmitting boundary is transformed for the direct coupling in the time domain. The near field region is modeled as a compressible fluid contained between two substructures. The developed method is verified and applied to various earthquake response analyses of dam-reservoir systems. Also, the method is applied to a nonlinear analysis of a concrete gravity dam. The results show the location and severity of damage demonstrating the applicability to the seismic evaluation of existing and new dams.

There has been an increasing number of studies on photovoltaic energy generation system in an offshore site with the largest energy generation efficiency, as increasing the researches and developments of renewable energies for use of offshore space and resources to replace existing fossil fuels and resolve environmental challenges. For installation and operation of floating photovoltaic systems in an offshore site with harsher environmental conditions, a stiffness of structural members comprising the total system must be reinforced to inland water spaces as dams, reservoirs etc., which have relatively weak condition. However, there are various limitations for the reinforcement of structural stiffness of the system, including producible size, total mass of the system, economic efficiency, etc. Thus, in this study, a floating breakwater is considered for reducing wave loads on the system and minimizing the reinforcement of the structural members. Wave reduction performances of floating breakwaters are evaluated, considering size and distance to the system. The wave loads on the system are evaluated using the higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM), considering the multi-body effect of buoys. Stresses on structural members are assessed by coupled analyses using the finite element method (FEM), considering the wave loads and hydrodynamic characteristics. As the maximum stresses on each of the cases are reviewed and compared, the effect of floating breakwater for floating photovoltaic system is checked, and it is confirmed that the size of breakwater has a significant effect on structural responses of the system.
