Service Blueprint-based Retail Store Operating Process Innovation: The Case of Electronic Shelf Labels (서비스 청사진 기반의 소매매장 운영프로세스 혁신 사례연구: 전자가격라벨(ESL) 구축 사례를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to analyze price information system and pricing label operation process, which are important information delivery systems of retail stores. This study also intends to identify the problems in store operation and identify academic and practical methods. In-depth interviews, direct observation, and service blueprint techniques were used to define problems in the existing business operation process, and an operating process based on the electronic shelf label (ESL) system is designed as an alternative to problem solving. The changes of the operating process before and after introduction were compared. Results of this study suggest practical implications that the ESL system can be used to solve the problems of the current price management process. The study also suggests the academic significance of presenting a complex research method of problem finding, cause analysis, and alternative presentation by using each research method complementarily.

  • Analyzed information from research outcomes such as papers, reports and patents is important data as an indicator for setting up the direction of future research policy, as well as is essential for active sharing and dissemination of research information and cooperative work between researchers. In this paper, as a method for presenting the analyzed information easily, accurately and systematically, we describe a method that processes the information about research outcomes into ontology-based knowledge and expands the knowledge by reasoning. Especially, we focus on the definition of analyzed information from research outcomes and queries and postprocess for obtaining the analyzed information from the ontology-based knowledge.

  • Semantic web ontologies can be viewed as logic-based domain-oriented contents which allow distributed and heterogeneous information to be semantically integrated, automatically circulated, and enable implicit knowledge to be reasoned. This paper describes the 'Science and Technology Research Area' ontology which is being developed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). This ontology was defined to assist actual researchers and project planners to grasp the researchers community from a variety of viewpoints. We describe classes and properties as ontology components and exemplify the representation of real instances in the ontology. In order to represent the identities of real world instances within the ontology, the above ontology employs both class-dependent URI assignment schemes and the identity resolution methods.

  • B2B e-business is an economic transaction formed between companies through various networks including internet. At present, e-business between companies partly applies information distribution between companies, but many enterprises expect that a corporate basic system will be gradually changed into XML basis if web service is earnestly materialized, so they are competing with each other in developing XML DBMS. Existing XML DBMS studies used XML DTD in order to represent the structure of XML document. Such XML DTD defines the expression of a simple type, so there are many difficulties in defining the structure of XML document. To cope with this, in this paper, the author will develop database schema generator utilizing relational database generally used in storing contents of data, on the basis of XML schema selected as a standard of W3C. Also, to store XML data, the author proposed the automatic conversion method of relational database schema that used XML schema.

  • The historical, social, and cultural value of Internet resources is indisputable, therefore many national institutions have created Web archiving projects to hand down this heritage to future generations. The selection guidelines are the most crucial aspect of these projects because they aid in differentiating which resources are worth collecting and preserving from the large number of web resources available. The purpose of this study was to suggest improvements for the OASIS Selection Guidelines by analyzing the selection guidelines of other domestic and international Web archiving projects. First, based on the results of Web archiving projects abroad, we proposed improvements for the definition of Web data and other terms, the basic principles of the collection, collection methods, and collection cycle. Second, we proposed substantial improvements in the target resources for archiving, and also stated what kind of web resources must be excluded from Web archiving. Finally, we discussed the relationship between data collection methods and the legal deposit of online resources, the necessity of constructing a database for selected target materials, and the necessity of cooperative archiving policies.

  • Ever since the definition "live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host"and guidelines of probiotics by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the WHO were announced, the research and product development using probiotics has been hugely successful. As a result, probiotics products become an important part of the functional food market. Recently, thanks to rapidly growing microbiome research, more diverse roles and health benefits of probiotics are being elucidated. Based on those results, pharmabiotics using probiotics are anticipated. In addition, in order to be internationally competitive and distributed, efforts should be made for certification such as GRAS/NDI notification through quality control that meets global standards. In this paper, we reviewed several aspects of probiotics concerning recently amended definition of probiotics, the regulation of probiotics, the strain specificity of efficacy, the association with microbiome research, and the market trends.

The Effect of Retail Site Characteristics and Out-door Promotion on the Retailer's Performance (소매정의 입지축성과 점두판촉이 소매점성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this research is to find out what factors have an effect on the retailer's performance. Most of the former researches in the similar fields performed their study based on the customers reasons for revisiting or store loyalty. But this research has been done not based on the customer but based on the retailers. It means that the data was collected from individual retailer. Considering the former research and characteristics of the franchisee retailers, size of temporal population around the retailers, visibility of the retailer, competition situation, out-door promotion, street shelf, size of the retailer were selected as factors affecting on the retailers performance. As a performance variable, number of visitors happened to observation period. Data collection was performed through the observation of the retail circumstance and interview with the retailers owner. As meaningful variables affecting on the retailers performance, size of temporal population around the retailers, visibility of the retailer were found in the 5% significance level, and out-door promotion, street shelf, size of the retailer in the 10% significance level, whereas competition situation did not have effect on retailers performance. Finally, we discuss several theoretical and practical implications, and suggest limitations for the research and future research issue.

Dimension- by-Dimension Effects of Service Quality on the Customer Relationship Quality of Internet Shopping Malls and the Moderating Role of the Length of Use (인터넷 쇼핑몰 고객관계의 질에 대한 서비스품질 차원별 영향 및 이용기간의 조절역할)

  • First, based on extant studies in the field, the author extracts environments, general and personalized interactions between an internet shopping mall and its customers, interactions among customers, and outcomes as 5 relevant dimensions of the service quality of an internet shopping mal She derives hypotheses on the relationships between each of the service quality dimensions and each of the three components of the relationship quality, satisfaction, trust, and commitment. She also investigates the moderating role of the relationship duration defined by the length of use in the relationships. She studies the relationships among the three relationship quality components and their effects on the future intentions of relationship maintenance, too. Through a survey on college students and adult consumers, she gathers 349 qualified questionnaires. Applying regression methods on the data, she finds out that most of the relationships between each of the service quality dimensions and each of the relationship quality dimensions are statistically significant but that the strengths of relationship are quite different dimension by dimension. The moderating effect of the relationship duration is not found except one case, the relationship between general interactions and trust. The author also finds out positive relationships between satisfaction and trust between satisfaction and commitment, and between trust and commitment. Positive relationships between trust and the future intention of relationship maintenance and between commitment and the future intention are found. But the data does not reveal any statistically significant relationship beetween satisfaction and the future intention. The author provides a few implications of the research results and future research agenda.

A Study on the Marketing Strategy for Cosmeceuticals in Pharmacies (기능성화장품의 마케팅전략에 관한 연구 -약국을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this research is to examine the level of understanding, current management and degree of satisfaction about 'Cosmeceuticals' among pharmacists running pharmacists. Using this research as a foundation, pharmacies are able to prepare an implementation plan for the marketing of 'Cosmeceuticais'. The level of understanding among pharmacists surveyed was found to be rather low as yet, and it will be necessary to increase their specialized knowledge. Through this analysis of current conditions, several means for pharmacies to implement marketing of 'Cosmeceuticals' are evident. These include expanding the definition of 'Cosmeceuticals' reforming the system for inspecting 'Cosmeceuticals', developing and distributing various specialized 'Cosmeceuticals', initiating training for increasing the level of specialized knowledge of pharmacists, developing public information by corporations and consumer networks, driving coordinated marketing with medical associations, linking marketing with health foods, ensuring display space at pharmacies, and offering knowledgeable consultations and detailed information about the products. This research is significant in that it shows that a plan reforming pharmacy management, which is affected by the environment in pharmacies such as the separation of pharmacies from medical practices, should include the an increase in marketing for 'Cosmeceuticals'. This research will be of great usefulness in forming a foundation for the sales strategy and manufacturing of 'Cosmeceuticals' by pharmacists, for the training of distributors about 'Cosmeceuticals', and for developing a distribution strategy.

Sex Identification of Bovine Meat Using Male Specific SRY and ZFY Genes (웅성 특이적 SRY 및 ZFY 유전자를 이용한 쇠고기 성(性) 판별)

  • The objective of this study was to develop a rapid and reliable method for the sex determination of beef using the PCR(polymerase chain reaction) technique. We have used two bovine sex determining genes, SRY and ZFY, on the Y-chromosome to identify the sex of Hanwoo and Holstein beet. We attempted to amplify 1,348 bp and 979 bp fragments from male and female genomic DNA corresponding to the SRY and ZFY genes, respectively, using male specific primers. The amplified PCR products were separated by electrophoresis in a 1.5% agarose gel to detect a male specific DNA band. When DNA from male beef was amplified with primers specific for the SRY gene, a DNA band of 1,348 bp was present in all of the male samples, but absent from all of the female samples. Also, when DNA from male beef was amplified with primers specific for the ZFY gene, a DNA band of 979 bp was observed in all of the male samples, but absent from all female samples. In conclusion, the bovine SRY and ZFY genes are typically found only in male beef. For the practical application of this method for the sexing of commercial beef at the processing and marketing stages after slaughter. a total of 350 beef samples collected randomly from local markets were analyzed for sex determination. The proportions of male and female samples were 252 (72%) and 98 (28%), respectively. Therefore. the SRY and ZFY genes. which are specific for the Y-chromosome, may be useful sex-diagnostic DNA markers to distinguish male meat from female meat.
