  • Objectives: The COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in changes in the instructional methods used in kindergartens and daycare centers to prevent viral infections. This study aimed to investigate the changes in oral health care for children before and during COVID-19 and the perceptions of kindergarten and daycare center teachers about oral health care. Methods: The study subjects were 189 teachers of kindergartens and daycare centers in charge of children aged 3 to 5. The data for the analysis were collected through an online survey. Frequency analysis and the chi-squared test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Compared to before COVID-19, the frequency of tooth brushing after lunch, the number of oral health education and regular oral examinations, and the rate of childcare teachers' experiences with oral health education had decreased during COVID-19. In addition, educators in kindergarten and daycare centers responded that an oral health officer at a public health center was the most desirable oral health educator. Conclusions: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the oral health care of children in kindergartens and daycare centers has declined. Efforts are needed to restore it by educating people about oral hygiene care and oral health education, both at home and in kindergartens and daycare centers.

  • Day-care centers and kindergartens are increasing along with the damage caused by fire year after year. Infants and toddlers have a low response capability than adults to fire situations such as heavy smoke which causes less or zero visibility thus it is difficult in evacuation route during dangerous fire situations. Because of these circumstances, teachers need to build a safe pathway signage system along with the usual fire safety training needs of infants and children. In this paper, we propose a system for fire escape which marks the escape routes and are automatically implemented through the push function that smartphone recognizes during the real-time fire situation, and establish a system that verifies its authenticity.

The data from a questionnaire were collected from teachers in kindergarten and daycare centers from March 5 to 31, 2015. The responses from 149 teachers were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. The results showed that self-confidence in the performance of first aid was mostly low (mean score 2.70), but was significantly high in cases of having a willingness to perform first aid (p=.002). The education demand for first aid was mostly high (mean score 4.04), and significantly high in the case of having experience of emergency situations (4.21, p=.006), and being educated in first aid while working in a childcare facility (4.14, p=.001). Therefore, it is important to educate teachers in first aid regularly after developing an optimized program considering the frequency of emergency situations, and level of self-confidence in the performance and education demand of first aid.

  • This study aims to identify the difference in teacher commitment at workplace child-care centers and understand the relationship between teacher commitment and teacher efficacy. To achieve this, the data were collected from 176 teachers who were working at workplace child-care centers in Gyeonggi province, One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, and Pearson's correlation analysis were performed. According to the results, it was found that there is a high positive correlation between teacher commitment and teacher efficacy. The teacher commitment appears high and especially the teacher commitment to infants and toddlers appears the highest at the workplace child-care centers. It was also found that there is a significant difference in teacher efficacy depending on academic ability and work experience of teachers, age of infants and toddlers, and total number of teachers in the centers. This study is significant in that it provides the basic data for drawing up the measures to support the teacher commitment as one of the internal characteristics of the teachers working at the workplace child-care centers. Further studies need to explore the relationship between teacher commitment and teacher efficacy depending on the type of kindergarten or day care center.
