A liquid storage rectangular tank structures are used In many fields of civil, mechanical and marine engineering. Especially, Ship structures have many tanks In contact with Inner or outer fluid, like ballast, fuel and cargo tanks. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance with exciting force of engine and propeller. Vibration characteristics of these thin walled tanks in contact with fluid near engine or propeller are strongly affected by added mass of containing fluid. Therefore it is essentially important to estimate the added mass effect to predict vibration of the tank structures. In the previous report, we have developed numerical tool of vibration analysis of 3-dimensional tank structure using finite elements for plates and boundary elements for fluid region. In the present report, using the numerical analysis, vibrations characteristics In deep water tank are investigated and discussed.
In this paper, a theoretical study is carried out on the hydroelastic vibration of a rectangular tank wall. It is assumed that the tank wall is clamped along the plate edges. The fluid velocity potential is used for the simulation of fluid domain and to obtain the added mass due to wall vibration. In addition, the vibration characteristics of stiffened wall of the rectangular tank are investigated. Assumed mode method is utilized to the stiffened plate model and hydrodynamic force is obtained by the proposed approach. The coupled natural frequencies are obtained from the relationship between kinetic energies of a wall including fluid and the potential energy of the wall. The theoretical result is compared with the three-dimensional finite element method and then added mass effect is discussed due to tank length and potential mode.
In this study, the seismic fragility analysis of a base isolated condensate storage tank installed in the nuclear power plant. The condensate storage tank is safety related structure in a nuclear power plant. The failure of this tank affect significantly to the core damage frequency of the nuclear power plants. The seismic analysis of the liquid storage tank was performed by the simple calculation method and the dynamic time storage analysis method. The convective and impulsive fluid mass is modeled as added masses proposed by several researchers. To evaluate the effectiveness of the isolation system, the comparison of HCLPF and core damage frequencies in non-isolated and isolated cases are carried out. It can be found from the results that the seismic isolation system increases the seismic capacity of a condensate storage tank and decreases the core damage frequency significantly.
The oscillation of the fluid caused by external forces is call ed sloshing, which occurs in moving vehicles with contained liquid masses, such as trucks, railroad cars, aircraft, and liquid rocket. This sloshing effect could be a severe problem in vehicle stability and control. In this study, the optimization design technique for reduction of the sloshing using evolutionary method is suggested. Two evolutionary methods are employed, respectively the artificial neural network(ANN) and genetic algorithm. An artificial neural network is used for the analysis of sloshing and genetic algorithm is adopted as optimization algorithm. As a result of optimization design, the optimized size and location of the baffle is presented
Hydroelastic effects on sloshing phenomena in a rectangular tank are numerically investigated. The dimension of the tank is $1000mm{\times}600mm$, and the filling ratio of water is 20% of tank height. One of the side walls of tank is assumed to be flexible. The tank is excited into sway motion with amplitude of 100mm and frequency of 0.53Hz that is first natural frequency of water inside the tank. Prediction results for time histories of pressure and displacement of flexible and rigid walls are compared to quantitatively assess hydroelastic effects on sloshing phenomena.

A study to evaluate the seismic response of $\frac{1}{2}$-scaled liquid storage tank constructed in Hualien, is performed. And this study is to identify the liquid-structure-soil interaction by observed earthquake data ans analyzed results. After the calculation of soil impedance for the test site by SASSI code, 3-dimensional seismic response analysis is performed by BEM-FEM-Impedance Method with the consideration of liquid-structure-soil interaction when the tank is excited by real earthquake. The observed acceleration and hydrodynamic pressure are compared with the numerical results. This comparisons show good agreement in predominant frequency and maximum hydrodynamic pressure. And the free surface sloshing motion due to earthquake loadings is computed in time domain.

A flow measurement system which is able to measure the instantaneous three-dimensional velocity components and the pressure distribution of fluid flows is developed using a digital image processing system and the stereoscopic photogrammetry. This system consists of two TV cameras a digital image processor and a 32-bit microcomputer. The capability of the developed system is verified by a preliminary test in which three-dimensional displancements of moving particles arranged on a rotating plate are tracked automatically. The constructed system is through the measurement and spatial pressure distribution is also obtained. The measurement uncertainty of this system is evaluated quantitatively. The present technique is applicable to the measurement of an unsteady fluid phenomenon especially to the measurement of three-dimensional velocity field of a complex flow.

This paper presents a method of seismic analysis for a cylindrical liquid storage structure on horizontally layered half-space considering the effects of the interior fluid and exterior soil medium in the frequency domain. the horizontal and rocking motions of the structures are included in this study. The fluid motion is expressed in terms of analytical velocity potential function which can be obtained by solving the boundary value problem including the sloshing behavior of the fluid as well as deformed configuration of the structure. The effect of the fluid is included in the equation of motion as the impulsive added mass and a frequency-dependent convective added mass along the nodes on the wetted boundary with structure. The soil medium is presented using the 3-D axisymmetric finite elements and dynamic infinite elements. The present method can be applied to the structures embedded in ground as well as on ground since it models the soil medium directly as well as the structure. For the purpose of vertification dynamci characteristics of a tank on homogeneous half-space is analyzed. Comparison of the present results with those by others shows good agreement.
