This paper presents a disposable microfluidic infusion pump using the restoring force of elastomeric membrane of Polydimethylsiloxane. Microfluidic infusion pump consists of hydraulic resistance control part, elastomeric blister actuator part, drug inlet and outlet. Expanded elastomeric blister actuator continuously pushes liquid in the chamber to outlet. At same time, microchannel diameter near the outlet was controlled by thin elastomeric membrane in hydraulic resistance control part. Eventually flow rate of infused liquid is controlled by air pressure. In experimental study, the amount of the filled liquid in the blister is precisely controlled by the height of the blister. Flow rate of infused liquid could be controlled, that is, controlled release of the drug over time was possible by adjusting hydraulic resistance and restoring pressure with the blister actuator.
This paper presents analysis of elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of ball bearings, in which surface roughness is considered. A lot of time is required to obtain a solution in the case of EHL analysis where surface roughness is considered, because the analysis requires a variety of analytic nodes. To save time, we use the full approximation scheme (FAS) among multilevel methods. We analyze the results of EHL and contact analyses in terms of pressure. We also compare the results for smooth and rough surfaces with respect to film thickness. We confirm that the film pressure decreases as compared to contact pressure because of the presence of lubricants between the ball and the raceway. Furthermore, in the case when surface roughness is considered, the film pressure increases because of contact asperities. Therefore, surface roughness should be considered when designing ball bearings.
Hydraulic vane pumps are widely used in various hydraulic systems because of its compactness and light weight. It is well known that the vanes and cam ring are separated by very thin liquid films which result in the EHL state. Contrary to the case of cylindrical roller bearings, the inlet and side boundary pressures are much higher than the atmospheric pressure. In this paper, a numerical solution of the EHL of finite line contacts between the cam ring and vane tip with profiled ends is presented. Using a finite difference method with non-uniform grids and the Newton-Raphson method, converged solutions are obtained for moderate load and material parameters. The EHL pressure distribution and film shape are considerably affected by pump delivery pressure and the side boundary condition applied. Both the maximum pressure and the minimum film thickness always occurred near the edge regions. The present results can be used in the design of optimum vane profile in hydraulic vane pump.
In this study, vibration and aeroelastic analyses of a T-tail have been conducted. The structural dynamic computations of the T-tail are performed using MSC/NASTRAN and CFD-based computational aeroelastic analysis method is used to investigate the complex flutter phenomena. The results for vibration and aeroelastic analyses in the frequency and time domains are presented. It is importantly shown that the modal coupling of the torsional mode of vertical-wing and the asymmetric bending mode of horizontal-wing parts can give sensitive effects for the flutter stability of T-tail configurations.
Experimental and numerical study was done to confirm the effect of the flexible tube in pipeline on transient flow oscillation. Experiment was made for a pipeline with and without deformable flexible tube using a single pumping system of main stainless pipe. The wave speeds of main pipe and flexible tube were calculated from the pipe material properties, structures, and boundary conditions. Time dependent pressure fluctuations were calculated for the pipeline using the simple and the Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic models for the deformation of main pipe and flexible tube. Pressure calculated by the Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model showed better agreement with measured one than pressure by the simple model. Experimental and numerical results show that the maximum pressure as well as amplitude of pressure oscillation was decreased by inserting short flexible tube in pipeline. Hence, inserted short flexible tube to pipeline was found to be effective for the suppression of strong pressure oscillation. Moreover, the wave speed in pipe was discussed based on numerical and experimental results.
This study was performed to evaluate the dynamic behavior of turbo pump unit. The acceptable separate margin of $1^{st}$ critical speed was obtained by the use of elastic-ring inserted ball bearing, while the poor separate margin of $1^{\st}$ critical speed was appeared in the case without the elastic-ring. In addition, the results show that the stiffness and damping of plain seals give more separate margin of $2^{nd}$ critical speed. However the wear or the failure of seals could reduce the $2^{nd}$ critical speed near the operating speed.
To investigate the group plugging effect the fluid-elastic instability analysis has been performed on various column and row number of the KSNP steam generator lutes. This study compares the stability ratio of the plugged tube with that of the intact one. The information on the thermal-hydraulic data of the steam generator have been obtained by using the ATHOS3-MOD1 code with and without the thermal energy transfer at the plugged region. Both of the boundary conditions of hot-leg temperature and feedwater mass flow rate are fixed for this investigation. From the results of this study the stability ratios inside the group plugging zone are decreased slightly. At the outside of group plugging zone, however, most of the stability ratios tend to be increased.
Experiments have been performed to investigate fluid-elastic instability of tube bundles, subjected to twophase cross flow. Fluid-elastic is the most important vibration excitation mechanism for heat exchanger tube bundles subjected to the cross flow. The test section consists of cantilevered flexible cylinder(s) and rigid cylinders of normal square array. From a practical design point of view, fluid-elastic instability may be expressed simply in terms of dimensionless flow velocity and dimensionless mass-damping parameter. For dynamic instability of cylinder rows, added mass, damping and the threshold flow velocity are evaluated. The Fluid-elastic instability coefficient is calculated and then compared to existing results given for tube bundles in normal square array.
The fluid-elastic instability analysis of the U-tube bundle inside the steam generator is very important not only for detailed design stage of the SG but also for the change of operating condition of the nuclear powerplant. However the calculation procedure for the fluid-elastic instability was so complicated that the consolidated computer program has not been developed until now. In this study, the numerical calculation procedure and the computer program to obtain the stability ratio were developed. The thermal-hydraulic data in the region of secondary side of steam generator was obtained from executing the ATHOS3 code. The distribution of the fluid density can be calculated by using the void fraction, enthalpy, and operating pressure. The effective mass distribution along the U-tube was required to calculate natural frequency and dynamic mode shape using the ANSYS ver. 5.6 code. Finally, stability ratios for selected tubes of the CE type steam generator were computed. We considered the YGN 3.4 nuclear powerplant as the model plant, and stability ratios were investigated at the flow exit region of the U-tube. From our results, stability ratios at the central and the outside region of the tube bundle are much higher than those of other region.
