  • The habitat suitability is an important factor to estimate the distribution and size of the physical habitat in river. This suitability is also a key factor to decide the ecological flow discharge for the fish. For the ecological analysis in river, accurate values of habitat suitability index for various fishes are necessary. In general, fish habitat is affected by the physical factor of the flow depth and velocity as well as the chemical and biological factors of nutrient and attached algae. Thus, the condition of the fish habitat is expected to be changed with each watershed and tributary. In this study, the habitat suitability indices for fishes were proposed by using the field monitoring data in the rivers of the Han and Geum river watersheds. The proposed indices for three fishes are compared: Zacco platypus, Zacco temminckii, and Coreoleuciscus splendidus. The results show that Zacco platypus has a similar distribution of habitat suitability index in two watersheds. Zacco temminckii and Coreoleuciscus splendidus, however, have different distributions with watersheds. Also, for Zacco platypus, the developed indices at three tributaries of the Han river are compared: Cheng-mi stream, Dal stream, and Hong-cheon stream. The comparision shows that the index in the Cheng-mi stream is different with those in the other rivers. This is expected to be because of a high nutrient concentration at the Cheong-mi stream.

  • Isozyme patterns of leucine aminopeptidase, esterase and protein from 16 isolates of Ganoderma lucidum were observed by electrophoresis for characterization of the isolates. Even in the same isolate, the patterns of the isozymes from mycelium and cap were different. The esterase patterns from the mycelium could differentiate the isolates. Of 16 isolates, four isolates showed identical patterns. It was assumed that these had the same genetic background.

  • A survey of Hongryu-Dong and Chi-in district. Gaya National Park, was conducted using 40 sample sites of 500$m^2$ size. TWINSPAN classification confirmed a complex pattern of both local and geographical variation in the vegetation: Dry and wet community types. Within dry community types, two floristic assocation of Pinus densiflora were defined according to local variation. Within wet community types. two floristic association were defined according to altitude. Those associations can be further subdivided floristically into eight subassociation. The vegetation pattern presented by DCA ordination corresponds to one of TWINSPAN at the first two division. The DCA ordination was successful in separating Pinus densiflora from broad leaf forest. Ordination of samples produced arrangements reflectly environmental gradient of soil. The correlation between the first axe of DCA and soil moisture, soil acid, altitude, maximum species diversity and species diversity was significantly negative. The similarity index between each community was very low level.

  • This study was conducted to survey the population of water birds wintering at the seven coastal wetlands of Jeollanam province including Suncheon Bay and Yeongsan Lake, from 2000 through 2003. The 90 species and 857,570 individuals in total were sighted at the seven survey sites. We classified the wintering water birds into seventeen groups of taxa based on the similar ecological attributes, among which, eight groups were found to inhabit the water surface or riparian areas. Classified groups that showed higher rate of using bay areas than that of lake areas were in the order of waders, gulls and swans. On the other hand, the groups that showed higher rate of using lake areas than that of using bay areas were revealed in the order of dabbling ducks, grebes and geese. In conclusion, there was a difference in the pattern between the two classified groups. As a result of the UPGMA cluster analysis using CCs ($S{\varnothing}rensen'a$ index of similarity and Ro (Horn's index of community overlap), the results showed that Suncheon Bay had the most unique species formation out of the seven areas. Bay and lake areas were different from each other in the formation of species and Individuals. As a result of combining the index rank according to the maximum aggregate count, the Suncheon Bay is ranked the highest in importance of the habitats for water birds, followed by the order of Boseong-Deukryang Bay, Gangjin Bay, Gocehongam Lake, Geumho Lake, Yeomam Lake, and Yeongsan Lake. Considered overall, the importance of the bay areas was relatively higher than that of reclaimed lake areas.

  • A major challenge facing those involved in the testing of new plant varieties for distinctness, uniformity and stability (DUS) is the need to compare new varieties against all those of common knowlege (reference varieties). One possible approach would be to group new (candidate) varieties and reference varieties using descriptions stored in databases prior to further of official test. testing. This study was carried out to manage a reference variety collection by databasing of hordein profiling. For this purpose, hordein subunits of the 48 National list barley (Hordeum vulgare L) cultivars were analysed. Total 22 of clear scorable hordein subunits were identified from D-subunit to B-subunit region and fifteen different hordein polypeptide patterns were obtained. Based on hordein subunit band pattern, UPGMA cluster analysis was conducted. Forty-eight cultivars were separated into three groups and genetic distance of cluster ranging from 0.55 to 1.00. Hordein subunits have a potential of selecting similar varieties compared with candidate varieties by controlling reference variety collection and playing an important complemental role in cultivar distinctness.

  • We aimed to investigate the macromoth diversity and species composition between two forest types; a small and fragmented agroecosystem(SFA) and a large and continuous forest ecosystem(LCF). We sampled moths twice(in June and August) using ultraviolet light traps employed in eight regions from 2018 to 2019. The results showed a significant difference between the two ecosystems; species richness, abundance and species diversity index (H') were significantly higher in LCF than in SFA. Beta diversity using Chao-Sorensen Raw abundance showed that moth community in SFA was different from that in LCF. The two components of beta diversity showed that the turnover rate was higher in LCF while nestedness was higher in SFA.

  • The purpose of this study was to conduct ecological health assessments by using the fish communities in the Manchurian trout habitat. Sampling was conducted twice in July and September 2018. In the survey, 1,119 individuals belonging to 16 species and seven families were collected. The dominant species by number was Rhynchocypris kumgangensis and the subdominant species was Zacco koreanus. Korean endemic species represented 73.33% at Geybang Stream and 76.92% at Naerin Stream. Community analysis revealed that the structure of the fish community was unstable by the dominance index 0.63 (±0.09)-0.97 (±0.01), the diversity index 1.63 (±0.23)-0.33 (±0.09), the evenness index 0.79 (±0.06)-0.24 (±0.07) and the richness index 0.67 (±0.14)-1.80(±0.16). According to the analysis of the tolerance guilds, the total individual number of sensitive species was higher than the intermediate and tolerant species. The insectivore species accounted for 65.09-98.56% of the total trophic guilds, which was the highest observed. The value of the QHEI (Qualitative habitat evaluation index) in the Brachymystax lenok tsinlingensis habitat was 119.5 (±0.5)-153.5 (±0.5), indicating an optimal-suboptimal condition. The FAI (Fish assessment index) stream health value was A to B in the study sites. Correlation analysis with FAI and various factors was conducted and a high correlation in QHEI, Brachymystax lenok tsinlingensis individuals, species, individuals, diversity, richness, sensitive species, carnivorous species, insectivorous species, and omnivorous species was found. The similarity analysis was divided into three groups from A to C, based on 56.9%.
