The Structure of Driving Behavior Determinants and Its Relationship between Reckless Driving Behavior (운전행동 결정요인의 구성과 위험운전행동과의 관계)

  • This study aimed to expand and reconstruct the Driving Behavior Determinants' factors in order to confirm the relationship between Driving Behavior Determinants(DBD) and drivers' reckless driving behavior level. To expand the structure of DBD, drivers anger, introversion and type A characteristics were added, which were never considered as related factors in existing DBD studies before. The correlations between the new factors of DBD and reckless driving behavior(includes driver's personal records of driving experiences for the last three years) were verified. A factor analysis result showed us that new DBD questionnaire consists of five factors such as, 'Problem Evading', 'Benefits/Sensation Seeking', 'Anti-personal Anxiety', 'Anti-personal Anger', and 'Aggression'. Also, reckless driving behavior consists of 'Speeding', 'Inexperienced Coping', 'Wild Driving', 'Drunken Driving', and 'Distraction'. The result of correlation between the DBD and reckless driving behavior indicates that inappropriate level of DBD is highly correlated with dangerous driving behavior and strong possibilities of traffic accidents. Based on these results, we might be able to discriminate drivers according to DBD level and predict their reckless driving behavior through a standardization procedure. Futhermore, this will make us to provide drivers differentiated safety education service.

Effects of Competency Model Based Education Program on Risk Behavior and Competences for Preventing Adolescents' Risk Behavior for Adolescents (역량모델 중심 교육프로그램이 청소년의 위험행동과 위험행동 예방 역량에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of competency model based education program on risk behavior and competences for preventing adolescents' risk behavior in adolescents. A quasi-experimental design was employed in this study. Participants for the study were middle school students, 30 in the experimental group and 30 in the control group. A study was also done between September and December 2010. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN. 15.0 program with ${\chi}^2$ test, t-test and two-way ANOVA. Participants in the competency model based education program reported significantly different both the competency for prevention of risk behavior scores (F=11.25, p=.001) and the risk behavior scores (F=16.01, p<.001) from those in the control group. The competency model based education program was effective in increasing competency for prevention of risk behavior and in decreasing risk behavior for adolescents. Therefore, this approach is recommended as a risk behavior prevention strategy for adolescents.

Effects of Pilots' Flight Skill and Self-Esteem on Risk Taking in the Context of Social Comparison (조종사의 비행수행 능력과 자존감이 비행비교상황에서 위험행동에 미치는 영향)

  • Using flight simulator tasks with 48 air force cadets, this research examined the effects of pilots' flight skill and self-esteem on risk-taking behavior in the context of social comparison with their cohorts. Flight skill and self-esteem were assessed for individual cadets and three conditions of social comparison (upward-, downward-, and no-comparison) were devised. Flight simulator situations inappropriate for further approach or landing were designed to assess pilots' risk-taking behavior. Weather conditions in the simulator were inadequate to make a landing and the recommended strategy was to break off the approach and attempt a go-around. In this experiment, pilots' risk taking was measured in terms of their approach altitudes; the lower approach altitudes indicative of the higher risk-taking. Our results showed interaction effects of flight skill, self-esteem, and social comparison on risk-taking behaviors. For pilots who were either high or low in both self-esteem and flight skill, social comparison had no effect on risk-taking behavior. However, pilots with high self-esteem but low flight skill showed more risk-taking behaviors in social comparison conditions. And, pilots with low self-esteem but high flight skill showed risk-aversive behaviors in the downward-comparison condition.

A Study on the Dangerous Driving Behaviors by Driver Behavior Analysis (운전행동 분석을 통한 위험운전행동에 관한 연구)

  • These days, human behavior (human factor), the main cause of traffic accidents, has drawn more attention. Research on driving behavior based on DBQ(Driver Behavior Questionnaire), the analysis tool of driving behavior, has been conducted actively. In domestic previous studies, their analysis subjects were limited to researchers or military officials, and their analysis methods were based on factor analysis and regression analysis. Therefore, this study tries to find the factors of general drivers' driving behavior that influence risk driving, and to analyze their influential relationship. Regarding study scope, general drivers with driving career were asked to answer DBQ questionnaire, and 300 effective samples were analyzed. In addition, previous studies were investigated to draw the three measurable attributes of DBQ-'Lapse, Mistake, and Violation'-as main factors of traffic accidents, and structural equation model was applied to design risk driving behavior model. To identify the difference between risk driving groups, this study made use of multiple group analysis. The analysis came to the following results: First, according to the examination of the hypothesis that 'Lapse, Mistake, and Violation factors will influence risk driving behavior', all factors were found to be statistically significant. Regarding their level of influence on risk driving behavior, Violation was 0.464, Lapse 0.383, and Mistake 0.158, and thus Violation was analyzed to be the most influential. Secondly, according to the examination of the hypothesis that 'the influence of Lapse, Mistake, and Violation factors on risk driving behavior will be different by risk group', the influence of Lapse on risk driving behavior was found to be different by risk group. It is expected that the study results will be used as a fundamental program to introduce traffic accident prevention program and education that takes violation and lapse into consideration.

Individual Differences, Attitudes toward Risk Behaviors, Parents and Peers Correlates of Adolescent Risk Behaviors (청소년의 위험행동에 영향을 미치는 개인적 특성, 위험행동에 대한 태도, 부모 및 또래 변인)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the associations between adolescent risk behaviors and correlates of risk behaviors. Questionnaires were completed by 955 high school freshmen in the Daegu${\cdot}$Kyungpook area and included measures of risk behaviors, coping, self-esteem, social competence, attitudes toward risk behaviors, parental attachment, autonomy, parental monitoring, and peers' risk behaviors. The major findings were as follows. (1) Parental attachment, autonomy, and appropriate parental monitoring were positively correlated with adolescent coping, self-esteem, social competence, and peers' desirable behaviors, but were negatively associated with peers' risk behaviors and attitudes toward risk behaviors. (2) Of all the variables, peers' risk behaviors and favorable attitudes toward smoking had the greatest influence on adolescent drinking and smoking, following by favorable attitudes toward drinking, social competence, and gender (3) Similar to adolescent drinking and smoking, of all the variables, peers' risk behaviors had the greatest influence on adolescent delinquency, following by favorable attitudes toward smoking and gender.

Factor Analysis of Health Risk Behaviors in Adolescents: Focusing on Daegu and Gyeongbuk provinces (사춘기청소년의 건강위험행동에 대한 요인분석: 대구·경북지역을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the scale of health risk behaviors among adolescents in Daegu area. The purpose of this study was to develop a health risk behavior measurement item for the adolescent adolescents in Korea and to analyze the validity (CVR) of the existing THI measurement items and then to quantify the health risk behavior Were compared and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the reliability of the health risk behavior scale of adolescents developed through the factor analysis was verified to derive measurement items such as general condition, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, mental health and other items. The reliability and validity of the developed health risk behavior scale were found to be fairly good. Through these studies, it will be possible to develop a preventive program that can reduce the risk of health related adolescents' youth, and to devise a strategy that can provide basic data for policy formulation.

  • This study investigated the relations of adolescents' attitudes toward risk behaviors, perceived benefits and costs, and their risk behaviors. The subjects were 955 high school freshmen in the Daegu$\cdot$Kyungpook area. The major findings were as follows. (1) Adolescents' attitudes toward risk behaviors were positively associated with the perceived benefits of adolescent risk behaviors, but these were negatively associated with the perceived costs of adolescent risk behaviors. (2) Compared to boys, girls had more positive attitudes toward adolescent drinking. In addition, girls perceived more benefits but less costs of adolescent risk behaviors than did boys. (3) There were no gender differences in the relationships between dependent variables and adolescent risk behaviors.

The Effects of Driving Behavior Determinants on Dangerous Driving and Traffic Accidents in the Reckless Drivers Group: A Path Analysis Study (사고 및 음주운전자들의 운전행동결정요인 특성이 위험행동 및 교통사고에 미치는 영향: 경로분석 연구)

  • Speeding and drunken driving make drivers fail to detect hazards and cope with various driving situations. These behaviors also raise the possibility of being involved in traffic accidents and tend to increase the number of fatalities. The authors compared the driving behavior determinants of a rockless drivers group, consisting of individuals who have committed traffic accidents or offended regulations through drunken driving, with a normal drivers group. In the results, the reckless drivers group showed high scores of 'speeding' and 'drunken driving', and they also stated that they had more experiences of speeding, drunken driving and traffic accidents. In the path analysis study, it was found that the impacts of the rockless drivers group's 'risk sensitivity' and 'situational adaptability' on traffic accidents were stronger than those of normal drivers. This means 'risk sensitivity' and 'situational adaptability' can explain the origins of traffic accidents better in the reckless drivers group than accidents of the normal drivers group.

Convergence approach to weight control behavior and online clothing product shopping (체중조절행동과 온라인의류쇼핑에 대한 융합적 접근)

  • This study focused on the idea that consumers who are dissatisfied with their body form tend to be more interested in weight control behavior. This research connects this relationship with consumers' risk perception on the internet and consequent decision hesitation behavior. Empirical results extracted three factors of weight control behavior: diet, physical treatment, and medication and exercise. Weight control behavior was different by gender but not by age. Consumers who were dissatisfied with their body form were likely to do exercise, but other types of dissatisfaction (weight dissatisfaction and height dissatisfaction) were not significantly related to weight control behavior. Weight dissatisfaction influenced perceived size risk significantly when shopping online. Diet, physical treatment, and medication had significant influence on perceived size risk when shopping online. Perceived size risk had significant influence on decision delay and offline switch behavior. This study took a convergence approach, which connects consumer characteristics with online shopping behavior.

The influence of perceived benefits and risks on the relational outcomes in strategically partnered firms (전략적 제휴 당사자 간의 이익 및 위험지각이 관계적 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of strategic partnership can be positive or negative. This paper intends to explain why the partnership produces opposite results. This paper incorporates strategic behavioral direction and perceived values for relational performance. The conceptual model as well as empirical analysis was made and the results are as follows. First, this study uses bi-directional decomposition of two research constructs. The first construct of perceived values is classified into benefits and risks. Also, the behavioral directions are either active or passive behaviors. The critical path is found that the perceived benefits make significant effects on active behavioral direction which does on commitment. Another path is that the perceived risks make passive behavioral direction which results in opportunistic behaviors between strategically partnered firms.
