Statistical analysis and its application of bicycle accidents (자전거 교통사고의 통계분석 및 활용)

  • Most nations including Korean government make a great endeavor to realize low-carbon and green-growth world. We also work hard to expand bicycle facilities and bicycle road in order to increase bicycle transportation rate. Nowadays number of cyclists is increasing but fortunately, bicycle accidents also increase rapidly. Most data of bicycle accidents published by National Police Agency annually are represented as frequencies in two dimensional contingency tables. In this work, risk rates and characteristics of bicycle accidents are analyzed by using concepts of the probability and conditional probability. Especially with numbers of estimated cyclists and registered cars, risk rates of various kinds of bicycle accidents are obtained. Under the assumption of the conditional independence, probability of bicycle accident occurred at realistic situations could be estimated. Furthermore we discuss to reduce bicycle accidents with these results obtained in this work.

Prediction of Shelf-Life of Chewing Gum Based on Moisture Gain and Loss (흡탈습량에 의한 츄잉껌의 Shelf-Life 예측)

  • The shelf-life of wrapped chewing gum(7 sticks) under the climate condition of Seoul was predicted by using moisture gain equation to reach safe moisture limits of 3.16% (dry basis). The overall water vapor permeability of multilayer packaging material was about 0.00045g water/pack day mmHg. The water activity of chewing gum at any temperature was predictable using Clausius-Clapeyron equation. The most significant loss of shelf-life was occurred between June and July, and most products reached the end of shelf-life at July and August. The product which were made in October and November had the longest shelf-life as seven months.

  • Concrete surface grinding is required for flatness and adhesiveness of concrete surface. The procedure is, however, labor intensive and has a hazardous work condition. Also, the productivity and the quality of concrete surface grinding depend on the levels of worker. Thus, the development of remote controlled concrete surface grinding equipment is necessary to prevent the environmental pollution and to protect the workers from hazardous work condition. However, it is difficult to evaluate the grinded surface objectively in a remote controlled system. The machine vision system developed in this study takes the images of grinded surface with the network camera for image processing. Then, by representing the quality test results to the graphic MMI program of the remote control station, the quality control system is constructed. The machine vision algorithm means the image processing algorithm of grinded concrete surface and this paper presents the objective quality control standard of grinded concrete surface through the application of the suggested algorithm.

Standard criterion of hypervolume under the ROC manifold (ROC 다면체 아래 체적의 판단기준)

  • Even though the ROC manifold for more than three dimensional space which is an extension of the ROC curve and surface has difficulty to represent graphically, the hypervolume under the ROC manifold (HUM) statistic can be defined and obtained based on AUC and VUS measures for the ROC curve and the ROC surface. Hence the definition and characteristics of the HUM for four dimensional space are studied in this work. By extension of the standard criterion of AUC for probabilities of default based on Basel II, the 13 classes of standard criterion of HUM are proposed in order to discriminate four classification models and some application methods are discussed. In order to explore the standard criterion of HUM whose values are obtained from various distributions, ternary plot is used and explained.

  • The studies on automatic ship collision avoidance system, which have been carried out last 10 years, are facing on new situation due to newly developed high technology such as computer and other information system. It was almost impossible to make it used in real navigation 3-4 years ago because of the absence of the tool to get other ship's information, however recently developed technology suggests new possibility. This study is carried out to develop the algorithm of automatic ship collision support system. The NOMOTO ship's mathematic model is adopted in simulation for its simplicity. The fuzzy reason rules are used for course-keeping system and for the calculation of Collision Risk using TCPA/DCPA. Moreover‘encounter type’ between two ships is analyzed based on Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea and collision avoidance action is suggested, Some situations are simulated to verity the developed algorithm and appropriate avoidance action is shown in the simulation.

The Observed Change in Interannual Variations of January Minimum Temperature between 1951-1980 and 1971-2000 in South Korea (지난 반세기 동안 남한에서 관측된 1월 최저기온의 연차변이)

  • There is a growing concern about the possible increase in inter-annual variation of minimum temperature during the winter season in Korea. This view is strengthened by frequently reported freezing injury to dormant fruit trees, while warmer winters have prevailed recently. The January minimum temperature record at fourteen weather stations was analyzed for 1951-2000. The results showed no evidence of increasing standard deviation at 3 locations between 1951-1980 and 1971-2000, while the remaining 11 stations showed a trend of decreasing standard deviation for the two periods. An empirical model explaining the spatial variation of the standard deviation was derived by regression analysis of 56 stations' data for 1971-2000. Daily minimum temperature and the site elevation may account for 68% of the observed variations. We applied this model to restore the average standard deviation of the January minimum temperature for 1971-2000, and the result was used to produce gridded minimum temperature data for the recurrence interval of 10 and 30 years at 250m resolution. A digital form of the plant hardiness zone map may be developed from this product for site-specific selection of adapted plant species.

3D Stereoscopic Terrain Extraction of Road Cut Failure Slope Using Unmanned Helicopter Photography System (무인 헬리콥터 사진촬영시스템을 이용한 도로 절개지 붕괴사면 3차원 입체 지형 추출)

  • Acquisition of information on failure slope, which may cause apprehension of second hand damage, requires acquisition of fast and accurate topographical data and efficient expression in indirect surveying method without accessing as needed. Therefore, in this study, the images on the intended area were photographed through hovering in the air by approaching collapsed road cut slope with the use of unmanned helicopter photography system. As a result of comparing the points observed by no prism total station and the 10 coordinate points analyzed through image analysis, the averages of absolute values were shown to be 0.056m in X axis direction, 0.082m in Y axis direction and 0.066m Z axis direction. In addition, the RMSE of the error for 10 points of test points were 0.015636m in X axis direction, 0.021319m in Y axis direction and 0.018734m in Z axis direction. Therefore, this method can determine the range of slope and longitudinal and cross sections of each slope in dangerous area that cannot be approached in relational image matching method for the terrains of such collapsed cut slope.

  • In the course of seismic probabilistic risk assessment(SPRA), seismic fragility analysis(SFA) is utilized as a tool to evaluate the actual seismic capacity of structures. This paper introduces a methodology of SFA and its evaluation procedures, especially focusing on the basic fragility variables. A new definition of the response spectrum shape factor as one of the most critical basic variables is suggested. The new factor is expressed as a term of linear algebraic sum using the modal contribution factor. The efficiency of new response spectrum shape factor is evaluated and validated to use in practice through the case study of the nuclear power plant structures. The case study results show that the proposed method can be effectively applicable to multi-mode structures with composite modal damping.

Development of a Shared Vision Model for Future Drought Vulnerability Analysis (미래 가뭄 취약성 분석을 위한 비전공유모형의 개발)

  • 기후변화로 인한 다년 가뭄은 매년 증가하여, 충청남도에 위치한 보령댐과 보령댐으로부터 용수를 공급받는 지자체의 시민들 또한 2015년부터 2017년까지 지속된 가뭄으로 인해 총 127일 동안의 생 공용수 급수조정으로 인한 불편함을 경험하였다. 지금까지 시행된 국내의 다양한 가뭄 피해 저감 정책 설립 과정은 대부분 일방적인 하향식(top-down) 의사결정 과정을 바탕으로 진행되었고, 이는 이해당사자와 정책결정자간의 갈등을 유발했다. 이로 인한 피해를 방지하기 위해 본 연구에서는 참여형(bottom-up) 의사결정 과정 중 하나인 비전공유계획을 충청남도 기후변화 적응 물관리정책 협의회를 통해 적용하였다. 또한, 비전공유계획의 핵심 요소인 비전공유모형을 시스템 다이내믹스 모형의 특성을 포함하여 개발하고자 STELLA Architect 소프트웨어로 보령댐 및 8개 지자체를 포함한 저수지 운영모형을 구축하였고, 총 3차례의 소위원회를 거쳐 수렴한 이해당사자의 요구사항에 따라 개발한 모형을 보완하였다. 구축한 모형으로는 미래에 발생 가능한 가뭄의 위험을 포함하고 있는 기후변화 시나리오에 대한 모의를 진행하였고, 보령댐과 보령댐으로부터 용수를 공급받는 충청남도 서해수역 지자체의 가뭄으로 인한 취약성을 평균부족횟수, 평균부족기간, 평균부족량으로 표현하였다. 모의 결과, 보령댐은 8개 지자체보다 가뭄에 상대적으로 더 취약하며, 8개 지자체에서는 가뭄 대응 대책이 주로 계획되어 있는 지역과 모의에서 가뭄이 발생하는 지역의 불일치로 인한 피해가 발생할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 다른 평가지표에 비해 예측하기 어려운 평균회복기간에 대해서는 댐과 지자체에서 이를 고려하는 것이 필요하다. 비전공유모형을 통한 가뭄 취약성 분석 결과를 미래 회의에서 이해당사자와 공유하고, 용수 공급처과 수요처의 입장에서 용수 부족을 해소할 방안을 모형에 적용함으로써 미래 가뭄 대응 정책 수립 과정에는 참여형으로 의사결정을 할 수 있음을 제안하였다.
