  • This study examined the main concepts of SOA and Web Services, and conducted technical analysis of major Web Services protocols such as SOAP, REST, SRW/U, and OAI-PMH that realize SOA, and suggested examples of SOAP and REST based Web Services establishments in foreign and domestic libraries respectively. In addition, it introduced application examples of Library 2.0 using Web 2.0 technology in foreign and domestic libraries and suggested how to apply SOA based Web Services protocol in Library 2.0. Finally, it proposed how to put Library 2.0 into practice applying meta-searching system integrating library OPAC, online bookstores, web portal sites and library union catalogs using REST based Open API.

  • It is required to enhance the value of ISBN as a tool for book search, identification, browsing, and improve the accessability and search capability of library OPAC. Bookmarklet is a small size javascript which can be saved as URL in a web browser bookmark or web page hyperlink. Open source bookmarklet can extract ISBN from web pages and search a book from library OPAC using the ISBN, so it is recognized as a simple but powerful search tool. In foreign countries, commercial library system vendors, libraries, OCLC, etc. are providing bookmarklets which allow a user to search for library holdings and loan information in a real time while he/she is travelling in an online bookshop web page. Therefore, this paper compared and analyzed international bookmarklets application examples and proposed LibraryLookup service in which library OPAC and online bookshop can make use of the bookmarklets.

  • As the rapid develoment of internet and information technology, the traditional library has been altered to the digital content service based on the world wide web. This paper proposes a design and implementation of an Artcle Union Catalog System(AUCS) based on metadata. The metadata set for the AUCS consists of twelve Dublin Core elements and one holdings element. The qualifiers of the proposed metadata elements are also represented. The AUCS system has an online cooperated cataloging system using the web interface or the 239.50 protocol, an union cataloging management system, and an integrated information retrieved system service. The integrated search and retrieval service of the AUCS displays not only the summary and detailed bibliographic information, but also the abstract, the table of contents, the digital content, and the copylfax service.

  • The historical, social, and cultural value of Internet resources is indisputable, therefore many national institutions have created Web archiving projects to hand down this heritage to future generations. The selection guidelines are the most crucial aspect of these projects because they aid in differentiating which resources are worth collecting and preserving from the large number of web resources available. The purpose of this study was to suggest improvements for the OASIS Selection Guidelines by analyzing the selection guidelines of other domestic and international Web archiving projects. First, based on the results of Web archiving projects abroad, we proposed improvements for the definition of Web data and other terms, the basic principles of the collection, collection methods, and collection cycle. Second, we proposed substantial improvements in the target resources for archiving, and also stated what kind of web resources must be excluded from Web archiving. Finally, we discussed the relationship between data collection methods and the legal deposit of online resources, the necessity of constructing a database for selected target materials, and the necessity of cooperative archiving policies.

Second, the introduction to the records catalogues and records collection should be provided in detail on the Web. Third, advanced search and full-text search functions should be provided, as well as the help information for the search methods. Fourth, university archives' Web sites should provide online exhibitions and newsletters of the archives.
